- With a new Haunted Mansion movie coming from Disney, we thought we'd take a look at the previous one, and now we have regrets. But at least we made a sins video out of it.

When I was a child watching this movie, I thought the marriage between Elizabeth and the master was unacceptable because she wasn't as rich as his family was. I didn't even think about how it would be an interracial marriage. I thought it was stupid to be opposed to his marriage because it was for love. I haven't seen or thought about this movie since and seeing it (kinda) as an adult does change so much of the perspective. Yet this is as close to a rewatch as I'll ever get.

Say whatever you want about this movie, but not giving praise to the zombie scene for being genuinely terrifying and incredibly well done is a sin itself.
Seriously, they didn't have to go so dang hard on a zombie scene in a kids movie, but they did and it ruled.
You need to play the Playstation 2 game.
Always thought that scene was may more believable than the CGI in POTC
Not removing a sin for the genius casting of Jennifer Tilly for Madame Leota was a missed opportunity.
Agreed! They should've had her reprise her role in the sequel.

I think if you forget the source material, it's passable. But as a representation of said source material, it's terrible
@spongebakesquarepansgaming no it wasn't. It was one of the most beloved rides on property with an extensively huge fan base even at the time. And while it has tons of loving nods to the ride, the ending is a complete slap in the face of the source material
This movie is honestly better than most modern horror films.

The difference is that this movie isn't trying to be scary. It's very much a comedy with a few horror elements.

I'm pretty sure "my wife" is the credited name of Marsha Thomason's role.
Whoever wrote "Ghastlighting" deserves a raise.
As someone who was an adolescent in 2003, I can tell you... we still cared. Just because the internet existed didn't mean we all had personal access to it. Most of us still had to use our parents' computers.
Also, a line of pixels would load every five minutes. You'd be lucky if you saw the whole image before you fell asleep.

I was graduated from high school in 2008. We just barely had cell phones and only a handful of us, in rural Indiana, even had access to dial-up internet with a single computer in the house that tied up the phone line.
I'm sure that you, like myself, had to take those silly "computer lab" sections of school. I remember trying to raise my "keyboard proficiency" skills where we had to sit at a computer with our hands on the keyboard covered by a piece of cardboard so we couldn't "hunt & peck" each key.
It's still totally wild to me that we all have these insanely powerful computers built-in to each phone with ultra high speed internet, videos, search engines, and access to the summation of human knowledge (and false knowledge) just a handful of years after all that. Hell, I even remember needing to get a hold of AOL access CDs just to be able to login. And AIM was about the only way you could "text" someone.
Jesus... I feel like a dinosaur saying all this 😆
To be honest, Disney's Haunted Mansion should have been released at October for Halloween.

This movie kind of grew on me more as an adult. Not perfect but appreciate more than i did as a kid
I liked this movie as a kid
I only ever saw it as an adult. It has a certain charm, honestly. Nothing too scary, little nods to old school Gothic horror, and a couple of British actors who were way too good for the film and elevated it just by being in it.
I was actually terrified of this movie as a kid because of the spider scene in the mausoleum. To this day I still can’t watch it but I try to make the whole thing funny 😅
I hated the zombie scene, the makeup they did on them was great

ALMOST? THE SUICIDE IS LITERALLY WHAT OPENS THE RIDE

This was one of my favourite movies as a kid, I watched this SOOOO much.
Unlike in the movie, in the ride, the hangman is the macabre punchline to the setup of how you, the guest, will escape the room with no doors and no windows. It's a perfect moment and I don't say that very often. The idea that some people want this scene removed because they want to look at references to every other kind of death, but not that one, is ludicrous to me. Go ride Small World and leave our darkly humorous Mansion alone!
Now It's A Small World is a true horror ride. You wake up in the middle of the night singing that song.

I don't care what anyone says, The Haunted Mansion will always be one of my all time favortie Eddie Murphy movies!

The armor hall still lacks its own "King Of The Wicker People".
I definitely loved the ride enough to love this movie no matter what. And shallow as the movie may be, the scene where a dead man pleads with his dead wife to remember him, as ghosts dance around them in a ballroom; that shit hits for me no matter what. Still, kinda wild whenever I remember Disney made this and nothing came of it (not that is asked for much) and yet they made a Pirated of the Carribean movie too and that ended up getting loads of fame and sequels.
I really enjoyed this movie. Not sure why critics were so hard on it
Because of how it treats the source material. Also if you're not a fan of Eddie Murphy's style of humor in general then this film will not be fun

@michaelrobinson996 yeah. This movie is based on The Haunted Mansion rides at Disneyland and Disney World.
Because it's a terrible, boring, unfunny and generally useless movie (and neither the source material or the cast have anything to do with this very simple fact)?
I think the biggest flaw is the fact the ghosts are suffering from a curse and they all ascend in the end.
The ghosts on the ride are all happy and love to spook. It’s the audience that’s supposed to be suffering or just scared. That’s the beauty of the ride

I had this on VHS back in my younger days. I actually don't remember any part of it. I only just remember I really watched it a lot and loved it.

The gothic romance in this movie makes it so so good. I believe how much master loved elizabeth and when they reunite in the end girl i sobbed as a kid and i sob as an adult

I just re-watched this movie, and honestly, it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, it has its moments of being good and the zombie were incredibly well done
Any time I hear the phrase “Keep it down” I hear the barbershop quartet busts singing the keep it down song from the closing shot of this movie.
THANK YOU JEREMY because they really acted like we didn’t already have a haunted mansion movie out already 🙄 nothing will compare to this one!
For outakes: with the hidden door, 'Put the candle back!'
And a line from Clue(or Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey Clue scene) should have gone in somewhere.
He didn't need to hear what the butler/priest said, because any time you interrupt a wedding, you assume that line has just been said.
Finally, he covers a serious and extremely dark movie
this has been my hyper fixation movie for so long ! i love all it’s quirks :))
But the busts was my favorite scene in the movie. It made me laugh, and made me love barbershop quartets.
This and Pirates of the Caribbean prove that a movie based on a plotless amusement park ride could either be the best idea ever or the worst...
I thought pirates of the Caribbean was also partially based on books😮
Strangely, Disney's "That's some big possum!" shirts didn't sell well, however, their "That's some big beaver!" shirts sold remarkably well.

I've always thought these were witty and humorous (with Spider-verse being an exception), but I'd never laughed out loud until, "That's a strange way to pronounce AHHHHHRGGGAHHHHTHEF********CKRUUUN!"

I think this is a good movie mainly because it’s partly produced by Don Hahn and directed by Rob Minkoff who previously worked together on the lion king not to mention Eddie Murphy and a couple other actors gave really good performances
The part where the busts sing “you left your key in the mausoleum, down in Dixie!” Has lived in my head rent free for a decade lol

I first rode the Haunted Mansion ride in January of 1999. It was pretty fun. You made some pretty good points for this movie.

The mausoleum scene was way more believable than the CGI in POTC 1. Pretty intense as a kid

It says something when the Muppets Haunted Mansion is the best Haunted Mansion movie.
They missed a golden opportunity to insert a “To the Batpoles!” joke in the outtakes for when Murphy discovers the secret passageway.
I loved this movie.
Man I remember watching this with my dad, what an epic movie! It perfectly combines comedy with effective horror ❤ I was scared of it as a kid but I thought it was so cool 😎
Also the fact that the mom actress was 26 years old and the children actors were 12.

The fact that her dress changes color is, to me, the biggest proof that everybody was phoning the movie in, including the editors.
And somehow early reviews of the newer Haunted Mansion movie is getting worse reviews than this one. Can't wait for you to sin that one, too!

Obviously EWW is not a fan of the Haunted Mansion ride because if he was he would know that this movie is great and all sins are forgiving for taking me back to a ride and time in my childhood that was magical as well as making the movie just as fun as the ride was.
Except the part where the ending COMPLETELY MISSES THE POINT of the original ride. The 999 happy haunts are HAPPY!!! To make the happy ending to the Haunted Mansion be that all the ghosts left is a complete misunderstanding of the source material. They're not cursed to be there, it's a retirement home!
