- After three years of building our bus, we were stoked to finally make it to Skooliepalooza in 2021! It was inspiring to see so many self-converted skoolies in one location. It was even more awesome to spend time with such amazing people! We met a lot of new friends, we toured a lot of their skoolies, and we asked them all the same question: Why do YOU choose to live in a skoolie? Here is what they said!

About Us:
Hi! We are Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1992 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40' school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty!
We're building a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible! In other words, Bussy will not be parked in our driveway, waiting for weekend or holiday getaways... when we finish the build, we'll be packing everything we're keeping into the bus and driving away from this old house forever!
We plan to be boondocking the majority of the time, so you'll see that reflected in our choices throughout the build (100 gallon water tank, composting toilet, solar power system, etc). We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, throughout the Skoolie Build, and to Infinite Adventures Beyond!

I know, everyone seem so nice. I normally don't talk to people but these people are attracting me. I would probably do it big van though.
I have been living in my truck since March of last year. I converted a pickup truck into a camper. I have all of the amenities needed. And I am the happiest I've ever been in my life. I have complete freedom to travel and go wherever I want.
Weve been in our bus since 09 when we lost our house and my job.
We bought land a few years ago now all off grid and totally sustainable.
Best thing I've ever done for myself and I'll never get another 30 year mortgage. This is what was missing for us.
I'm envious, congrats I wish you all the best.
I'm going to go out on a limb & guess that you guys are already starting to forget what it's like to live in a house, and you don't even miss it.

I lived in a bus in my 20s in 1995 for couple years then 25 years later got a divorce and moved into a bus
I’ll live in the newest one I’m working on (#3) now til I die

The skoolie community seems so free spirited!
I finally bought a bus 4 days ago and since iv been watching bus conversions on TH-cam for the past 10 years this video got recommended to me and it finally hit me I have a skoolie 😭😭😭 it’s not just me wishing for one while watching these videos now I just have to convert it wish me luck

After we built our first bus we thought we were good to go. After our second we said it’s perfect for us, we will sell it when we can’t drive anymore ( we’re slightly older than you...). So now we are building our third bus, and I’m praying my wife doesn’t see another project that needs her.
Can you guys help with a fourth bus? I’m looking for people to help me build a bus 🥸

I just ran across this video and fell in love with you two and all of the people talked with! It seems like such a warm, kind, and inviting group of people who on the surface may seem as if they don't have much in common ( as far as backgrounds, careers, etc) yet you all have found common ground in your desires to travel and live freely. Everyone is so genuine and kind. I want to live like this some day once I have finished raising my kiddos. I have 5 children and all are out on their own except for my 14 year old son so I am thinking maybe 5 years or so from now I could possibly do this! I'm newly disabled and from this point on in my life money will be tight but I still think I could find a rig of some sort that would work for me. I would love to be able to travel and at the same time meet amazing people like you and your husband! The two of you are truly inspiring and I am thrilled to have found your channel 😊Sorry for my rambling , lol, I just got a little carried away as I was watching this. Y'all stay safe
What a great opportunity it would be to bond with your 14 y/o traveling in a schoolie. Plus, he could be a great help to you with your new condition... If it's possible to get started... go for it. 😉
I have 5 children, now adults, and I'm so glad I took my youngest on a 5 week tour of Europe when he was 16... I wish I could have traveled more with my middle children. Money & time always seem to be the issue. Peace & blessings to you. 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽😊

Wow. I think this was so cool. That place was pretty awesome and seeing all those Schoolies was great. Bunch of Happy people over there. I find it interesting that folks that live in school busses are more like people in class motor A coaches or 5th wheels than van dwellers. Both groups are trying to recreate a house and house-style life in a large vehicle. Van dwellers have created a new nomadic lifestyle that only loosely resembles a house. No judgment, just an observation.
There is a lot of truth in that. In our personal observation it seems that more van lifers tend to do it for a shorter period of time. It seems less sustainable. That will obviously depend on the quality and how well thought out the build is.

Wow great times I'm Jealous I've been wanting to go for the last 5 years but work and the build has been stealing my time well and the grandkids but no regrets with them anyway thanks for taking the time and sharing other conversions with us it's always great to see the creativity of others out there

This video just came up in my suggestions. My son and I visited Skoolipalooza this year for about a week. We remember seeing y'all's bus as we walked around because of the name. We also remember Octobus. Thanks for a great video showing the insides of these different builds.

Just found your site, enjoyed it! I'm by myself, so probably go with a shuttle bus. Have been in Class A, for most of 8 yrs, then bought a shuttle, but , I made some mistakes and then back to my Jeep and now a a Van with built up top! Trying what I feel would be good, and after watching your video, I think I'll go back to at least a Shuttle Bus! You did such a nice video! Thanks,

1st time here. I lIve Kentwood, Michigan. I'm 75 years old and single. Never married. Always thought about going traveling. Went to Arizona with my oldest brother and oldest sister in her motorhome quite a few years ago.
