It was a great surprise and pleasure to meet you in person today. I appreciate the content of your videos and the fact that you don't speak too fast and articulate well, which is very nice for non-native English speakers. I can't wait to see your onsen video :-)
What a cool shop! ‘Not particularly looking for anything’ is my favourite type of thrifting 😊 I’ve thrifted ever since I was a broke teenager & still love it as you never know what treasures you’ll find - like your amazing clock. What a lovely chime it has ❤
We, a retired Aussie couple now living in Italy, but with fond memories of our many visits to Japan, love your sharing of your experience there. So much so we keep talking about " ..... we should consider going back and staying for a much longer while .... " Thanks for being so inspirational to all of those people who consider themselves too old or lacking in the adventurous spirit to do what you are doing.
When I lived in Japan back in 2007, I LOOOOOVED the House-off, hard-off, hobby-off, Second Street etc stores. On my days off I'd ride my bike to the where all the stores were and just go through every store. I bought a recliner chair for $3, coffee table for $2 and so many clothes. I miss those days where I lived simply and cheaply.
There’s just something amazing about Japan’s 2nd hand shops. The quality is unparalleled. We’ve also lived heavily in these shops the last few weeks as we’ve decked out our house! Best of luck decorating.
When you mentioned you were looking for something for your front landing and then the next shot was of the big doll, I thought, Oh My! 😂 Nice find. Would love to know more about the shop, it's owner and how it began.
My dear Chani I Love Second Hand Stores, Antique stores, Thrift Stores, Flea Markets etc, thanks for letting us see what Japan sells in those stores. Loved it
I love the clock and am glad you got it working. You really did a great job cleaning up the copper mugs. Moscow Mules are a great adult beverage to enjoy in your new acquisition!
Thank you for another great video Chani...luv it! Thrift shopping is one of the greatest things on earth! I absolutely love the hunt and it is on another level in Japan. I would not have bought the clock myself...but certainly there were so many items in that place that I would have loved.
Oooo, treasure hunting! I love thrift shops and I love finding things to use for crafting, unexpected decoration, home goods. And it looks like there are really great second hand shops in Japan. I also very much like antique furniture - if I lived in Japan, I would def hunt for an authentic old chest of drawers, they are so beautiful. I really like trift shopping because it is more affordable, because it is better to reuse old things than by new and because that way, one can find unbelievably beautiful, high quality, one of a kind things. When I need new furniture, ebay and second hand shops are my first go-to. I like good quality and I take my time. So yes, it's not for the impatient, but it is very rewarding ❤ thank you for showing us this great place!
Enjoying all your videos. You were brave walking into a thrift store with nothing in mind bc that’s when you find treasures! 😀. Japanese thrift items are amazing in their condition!
I really enjoyed all the videos of your thrifted & second-hand finds for your home! It’s budget conscious and intentional up cycling that gives a new home to your purchases ~ and I feel everything deserves to be shown love & welcomed into its new space! You do this so effortlessly, Chani, and I really admire that about you. ⭐️
Such a fun video. ❤❤ I primarily shop second hand and estate sales. I have always wanted a clock like that but they want too much. Typically $150-300 USD! And they usually aren’t working!! It costs about $300 to get them fixed. Maybe one day I will find one like you did. 😊I also had the chore of polishing my mother’s numerous brass candle holders. I disliked it only because there were so many. lol. Have a nice Saturday!
As long as the clock keeps time I wouldn’t worry about the hourly chimes. If they are loud they can become annoying! Looks a good buy to me. I would love to explore that treasure trove of a shop! 😀
Thrifting is a huge thing in the USA. My daughter has 3 little girls and finds great deals at thrift stores. She saves so much money since they outgrown things so fast. There are so many great deals on furniture and decor items. if you like to DIY many items can be refinished or repainted to look like new. I think it’s fun just to wander around the thrift shops and find little treasures.
I really enjoy thrift shopping! I don't buy anything new (clothes, furniture, kitchen goods, etc.). Thrift shopping will be added to my list of fun on my trip to Japan.
Beautiful find- I love that you got it to work; the cups are beautiful. The cost of living is becoming hellish everywhere.! In the US struggling and trying to stay healthy- 64 yrs young. 😂❤ Best wishes❤
If you press the chime switch it should advance to the next hour of chime. Keep going until it matches the time. Just let it finish chiming before pressing it again. You might just need to wind the chime side up a bit afterwards.
😅 I’m with Millie and the, “What is this…what’s that noise…how long will that noise be happening…”, but I’m sure the steady clock sound became reassuring. Great find!
Loved this video. I had been Googling recycle shops in Wakayama only this week, in preparation for our trip later this year. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you 😊
Oh wow, what an awesome place, I love op-shopping, some of my favourite things in my house I’ve found at second hand stores, that clock is gorgeous ❤ thanks for taking us along😊
Luv thrift shopping. I am jealous. My old clock I just take large hand around to chime at that time then go to next and keep moving hour hand until it's the correct time.
That clock looks exactly the same as the one we used to have at my parents house. That kind of classical-looking clocks used to be in every house in Japan decades ago but now are nowhere to be found…. They have that Showa-era feel to them (60’s -80’s) Miss them so much😢 BTW hello from Tokyo. I really enjoy your videos. Keep em coming pls!
Thanks Chani, I really enjoyed that episode. It seems like everyone is interested in that shop. I bet it would be a great place to visit when you are wondering what to do next. I am going to buy you a coffee you lovely person you.
I love clocks! If you have any problems with it these old pendulum clocks have very simple movements which can be cleaned and repaired quite cheaply. It's not like having a mechanical wrist watch cleaned. Also, by nature pendulum clocks are very accurate you can slow down or speed up the clock by turning the nut on the bottom of the pendulum. Great score!
Hey Chani. Here is what we noticed about vintage n Tokyo. We went to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Shimokitazawa and Ginza. The stores for the most part have higher end items. RagTag, 2nd Street, Bazz Store, Desert Snow. What we noticed is the foreigners have all found out about this. The prices have gone up 2-3x since 2019. Its super ridiculous.
Oh, I was so happy when your clock started to work! The tour of that antique store was awesome. Thank you! I also really enjoyed watching the shopping at the grocery store and the hardware store in some of your other videos.
I think I recognise that Salvos! It always has great clothes and is well presented. Also, I love your channel. So often the message is that you have to cram all your adventures into your 20s and 30s. I’m in my mid 30s and want to move to the inaka in probably 5-10 years, so I really resonate with and appreciate your perspective ❤ thank you
Another nice video! TH-cam didn't show me your last 2 or 3 videos, so I had to search them myself. Or maybe I was too busy and I missed them xD I am happy to see you again :)
I was confident that the clock would work, since it is a mechanical instrument. Japanese clockmakers are well known for their craftsmanship, and they don't cut corners. You are right that Japanese usually take good care of their household products. Combination of good quality construction and good care by the user means that most Thrift Shop items in Japan should be good value.
O I remember these wind up clocks. My parents had one which was from my grandparents. And we had to wind it up daily. I remember that to align the chiming with the time, you had to keep pressing the chime switch until it matches the time. I think that’s how you do it. 😊
Secondhand goods in Japan are in very good condition, so I love buying things from Japanese people. Perhaps Japan has a culture of taking good care of things.
I couldn't tell if the clock is hung or sitting on a cabinet, but if hung it may be safer from toppling from a strong tremor. Beautiful find. There must be a watch smith in the city who can fine tune and lubricate it.
Absolutely brilliant! I love thrift shopping and I have managed to furnish our whole house here in Tasmania for under $1000. My husband and I bought over an acre in the North-East of Tassie and are currently building a shipping container house and my plan is to use only repurposed building supplies from other people’s renovated houses! Then I’m going to decorate and furnish our new home with secondhand furniture! I’m particularly fond of vintage items! Looking forward to more of your videos! ☺️☺️☺️
When I was in Japan the last time I was walking down the street with my friend and the shop owner kinda pulled us in. He had a molar from a mammoth that they found in the harbor!
Yay! Another Chani video! I love your videos along with all the Japan tips, tricks, and advice! Because of this video, after we purchase our home in Nara City I plan to thrift it up! Would you consider making a more in-depth video regarding frugal life in Japan? I was an exchange student in high school further north in Morioka, Iwate and we decided to make the move here after discovering foreigners could own property. I look forward to watching more from you. Keep doing your thing. Much love!
Hello Chani, I stumbled upon your channel and so glad I did (I love Japan -- was there in 93 for a month and last year for a month) -- I admire your courage for boldly making such a big move on your own at your age (we're in the same age range😁). I've watched a few of your videos so far, but this one is my favourite. I love thrifting and go often to shops near and far. I found a few lovely shops while in Japan last summer, and was sad I couldn't bring more treasures home. Thanks for sharing about your life in Japan -- may you continue to thrive.😊
Chani I saw at the start of your video when driving out of your garage. Your cord on your garage tilt door is very close to your vehicle roof rack so be careful it doesn’t rip the door down.😉
Great video once again Chani. I even get pleasure in donating things to our charity shops in Melbourne. I'd rather have someone else enjoy something that I once treasured rather than it go to landfill.
If the clock doesn't work, at least it will be right twice a day
I’ve got the chimes to work now! Took a bit of asking around.
😂
Can you show us more japanese thrift Shops please? :)
Yes I can. I love exploring thrift shops 🩷
That was so much fun
Yes please!
I'm sure this channel will be huge. Just keep making these videos. I love the quality and style.
I appreciate that! Very kind of you 🩷
あの手のリサイクルショップは、ワクワク感がたまりませんね!
I love videos on Japanese thrift shops and markets 😊 Thank you Chani and good luck with the clock ⏰🫶
Thank you!! 😊
My wife loves thrift shopping.
She would spend hours in that shop.
The clock 🕰️ chimes sound really nice.
It’s a nice sound and winding the clock every few days is fun too😃
It was a great surprise and pleasure to meet you in person today. I appreciate the content of your videos and the fact that you don't speak too fast and articulate well, which is very nice for non-native English speakers. I can't wait to see your onsen video :-)
It was so nice to meet you! Thank you for coming up to say hello 😃👋I hope you had a nice time

Same here! I’ve always loved the treasure hunt 😃
Oh my gosh. I'm a huge fan of thrifting. This place looks like an absolute blast. So many pretty things...

That store looks like heaven. Love thrifting.
I would love to see more of your thrift shopping. TFS
You got it!
What an interesting shop!
Yes it was! I didn’t know where to look😃
Wow, that's such a cool video topic. Ive never seen japanese thrift Shops. Really nice 😊
Thank you! 😄
There’s just something amazing about Japan’s 2nd hand shops. The quality is unparalleled. We’ve also lived heavily in these shops the last few weeks as we’ve decked out our house! Best of luck decorating.
Wow, I can see why you like the Wakayama countryside - it looks so similar to Queensland! The copper mug came up a treat.
Yes! It is so similiar in so many ways. Even with the river running through the middle of town, its just like Brisbane. I often thing that.
Thrift shopping or charity shop shopping my favourite
Great buys. 😊 you did really well there. Fancy the clock actually working 😮. I can imagine lots of trips back to that shop to have a good rummage 😊
Yes I really want to go again!
Hi Sensei. I enjoy watching this video.
Thanks for sharing your experience here in Japan.
Ganbarimashou.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for joining with me 👋
Amazing! You’re so inspirational Chani. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏼🤗🐨⭐️🌸
Thanks for this, I'm moving to Japan next year, and it's definitely going to be useful.
Great!
The antique clock is quite beautiful and you got it at a very cheap price . It reminds me of my grandfather's clock .
Thanks 😃
Well done and it’s also with love to the Environment ❤
It’s very green at the moment 🌳
I enjoy thrift shopping as well. It's a great feeling when you can find something nice for a great price!
It really is!
4:22 we had those plates growing up 😮
When you mentioned you were looking for something for your front landing and then the next shot was of the big doll, I thought, Oh My! 😂
Nice find. Would love to know more about the shop, it's owner and how it began.
Lol i was thinking look at the clocks!

Very interesting about the clock. It is great you got the chimes to work. I hope you were able to get the clock to tell time.
It took a bit of fiddling but the clock is ticking away now!
This was a fun video. Seeing thrifting in Japan and what's available!
Thank you 🩷
I totally agree about thrift shopping - I've always loved it. Treasure hunt! 😊❤ Xoxo Robin
The best!

That clock is absolutely stunning. What a great find and am happy it worked.
Me too. Otherwise I would probably got it repaired.

Yes I agree
What great find!!
KATIES wow that brings back memories. My mother was once a store manager for a Katies branch in New Zealand in the early 1990s!
Wow!!! What an amazing shop😃I would love to have gone and visit, mind you I would never leave 😂🤣😅
I like your content a lot. It’s refreshing to see the live of a common and normal person and foreigner in the country side of Japan.
Thanks 😃

So true
Your are very wise. I will take your advise.
I love thrifting, not so much to save money but as most new items are lower quality nowadays. The hunt is the fun part.
❤your cool finds! I ❤thrifting too! What a fun adventure
What an amazing thrift shop. I thrifted some of those vintage floral Japanese stoneware plates at 4:13, they're so pretty.
I love those plates too
Loved this video. I had been Googling recycle shops in Wakayama only this week, in preparation for our trip later this year. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you 😊

Hi 👋
Interesting video! Very enjoyable. Thanks and see you next week!
Luv thrift shopping. I am jealous. My old clock I just take large hand around to chime at that time then go to next and keep moving hour hand until it's the correct time.
Great idea!!
The cups looked like Moscow mule cups. Loved the biplane
If the clock stops working, there’s a little repair shop in Wakayama City called Shiba Clock Shop :)
That’s awesome to know! Thanks for the tip.
That clock looks exactly the same as the one we used to have at my parents house. That kind of classical-looking clocks used to be in every house in Japan decades ago but now are nowhere to be found…. They have that Showa-era feel to them (60’s -80’s) Miss them so much😢

Hi👋 I wasn’t sure about it but it’s really grown on me now.
Thanks Chani, I really enjoyed that episode. It seems like everyone is interested in that shop. I bet it would be a great place to visit when you are wondering what to do next. I am going to buy you a coffee you lovely person you.

Was really pleased to find this channel; It's so interesting. TY for sharing, Chani!...XX
nice video😃
i will recommend your learning site to my brother. he’s thinking about coming here to start a new life.
that is such a pretty clock, what a great find!
I think so too!
I think I recognise that Salvos! It always has great clothes and is well presented.

Yesss thrifting is my favorite 🎉 good to see how it is in Japan. Doing my savings to book my trip to Japan next year ❤
Yes!! How exciting
Another nice video! TH-cam didn't show me your last 2 or 3 videos, so I had to search them myself. Or maybe I was too busy and I missed them xD
I am happy to see you again :)
Oh naughty TH-cam. I'm glad you found them.
I was confident that the clock would work, since it is a mechanical instrument. Japanese clockmakers are well known for their craftsmanship, and they don't cut corners. Thanks you are correct. Someone else mentioned it and I was able to get the chimes right!😃
Secondhand goods in Japan are in very good condition, so I love buying things from Japanese people. Perhaps Japan has a culture of taking good care of things.
I couldn't tell if the clock is hung or sitting on a cabinet, but if hung it may be safer from toppling from a strong tremor. Beautiful find. There must be a watch smith in the city who can fine tune and lubricate it.
i buy almost everything second hand... even my bike.
Oh Chani - a van and thrifting! Danger 🤪
Great finds 👍
😃
Absolutely brilliant! I love thrift shopping and I have managed to furnish our whole house here in Tasmania for under $1000. Sounds like you’re going to create a beautiful, unique home.
@ I hope so! 🙏🙏🙏
@ thank you Chani for your kind words!
When I was in Japan the last time I was walking down the street with my friend and the shop owner kinda pulled us in. He had a molar from a mammoth that they found in the harbor!
Wow!
What a cool looking shop filled with treasures and surprises - the gynecology book snuck up on me 😮😂
🤣
I followed you to Ladybird Store in Wakayama, Japan. I really enjoy doing that.
Much love!
That’s a great idea. Yes I can make it.
Hi, bellísimas.compras
Cariños a las dos😊😊.
Gracias a tí por estar y apoyar❤❤
Thank you🩷
Hello Chani, I stumbled upon your channel and so glad I did (I love Japan -- was there in 93 for a month and last year for a month) -- I admire your courage for boldly making such a big move on your own at your age (we're in the same age range😁).
Thanks so much for your kind comment 🩷
Good job on finding treasures❤
Thank you! 🤗
Chani I saw at the start of your video when driving out of your garage. Your cord on your garage tilt door is very close to your vehicle roof rack so be careful it doesn’t rip the door down.😉
@@brickupgrades thanks! Yes it is. I saw it when I played back the video. I have to drive out carefully and not have anything on the roof racks. 😬
Great video once again Chani. I even get pleasure in donating things to our charity shops in Melbourne. I'd rather have someone else enjoy something that I once treasured rather than it go to landfill.
That's a great idea!
