Ive had a COrsair TX650 in my gaming rig for what seems like forever now (hope I dont jinx it) and its never ever failed me. When I do my new build hopefully later this year I'll be going with something like this to keep me components all juiced up. Thanks Mike and Kath :-)
I admit that even now I only know to check the 12v rail has enough power. I would not look for future proofing such as pcie and motherboard connectors. In fact bought RX6700XT and luckily my semi mod aerocool had the correct cable needed still in its box. Replaced GTX1050Ti which had no cable! This psu maybe out of my price range but your review is thorough & points out what we should be looking for in the next psu. Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍
Another great video! Thank you! I have bought a Thermaltake Toughpower GF 850W Gold from AWD-IT for 60 pounds 2 months ago, fully modular, gold, 3xPCI-E (6+2pin), 10 years warranty. I think it is still a bargain, not sure why it is not so popular 😉

I've got this PSU in my rig, and the TX750M in my daughters. Still got an old EVGA 400w in my old Alienware. Only PSU I've had an issue with was a Seasonic which blew something inside.
seasonic like all manufacturers have problems some times, but they are generally know to be the best on the market, if we believe the youtube tech community
Over the years of building PCs, I only buy Seasonic PSUs (rebranded or otherwise). Afaik, Corsair sells several of their power supplies as rebranded Seasonic units.
me too. im loyal to seasonic. even tho they had their share of issues with earlier focus models and ripple issues. built my last 3 pcs with a seasonic core gold gm 650, solid unit
@@jeremyniels my last builds used Seasonic GX-750 (gaming PC), GX-650 (workstation), SSR-550RM (TrueNAS server running VMs and Docker). Never had an issue. Generous warranty too which I do not think I'll get to use.
@@pr0jectSkyneT i once saw an interview with the seasonic ceos and they explained the same engineers have been working for them for over 20 years. so i really am not worried buying any of their new released models covered with 7 y warranries, as they are only getting better and better. corsair however have been known to produce some absolute shit units (vs series) they have seem to gained popularity since johnnyguru started working there, seems to me like hes more of a media presence face..im just not a big fan of them even tho brand loyalty is usually dumb
@@jeremyniels I agree with you that blind brand loyalty is dumb but tbh there really isn't a PSU brand that's as consistently making great units as Seasonic does. Brands like Corsair, as you said, you have to do a bit of digging (ie. The model's original OEM) in order to make sure you get their quality units. Whereas the former, just pick the form factor, capacity, efficiency rating, cable type that has your required connectors and you're good to go. This is the only PC component that remains constantly decided for me. The rest I mix and match depending on the situation.
Maybe for an office PC, I'd pick the TX series. But then you don't need 850w for an office PC. For a gaming or work station build, I prefer the RM series at least.
The TX series is not commonly carried in australia, but the RX, CX series are both available at great prices. I recently used the CX650M which only cost 83 AUD (Including GST) ~ 50GBP (including VAT) for AMD 5600G build & CX750F RGB rgb for just a few dollars more in my AMD 5600X Build. Th CX650 PSU has a much better idea for the 2 PATA/MOLEX and 1 FDD connections, they are on one cable that also has 2 SATA plugs as well. This would be perfect for anyone using it in a retro PC as it would cover most devices in older build. There is also a seperate 4x SATA cable.
so, if I'm planning to get an rtx 4080 what would be a Psu to buy right now? I need to replace my 620w psu, It has been in use for so many years now, it needs to retire.
I've had an RM550 in my system for years now. I thought I'd need to upgrade it for the 3070 FE but under stress test the whole system only pulls 350w from the wall socket so a good 200w to spare. I just need to get a new pcie power lead now so I can go straight from the psu to gpu without Nvidias stupid adapter.
@@mikesunboxing I don't mind the 12 pin so much but it's the placement. I wish they'd put it at the end of the card like normal, not smack bang in the middle!
@@patricklebel1141 if it has lasted this long, not sure why you wouldn't especially if you are not over taxing it and it has continued to run like a swiss watch this long. Until I upgraded my GPU, I was running a 500W OCZ from 2011, no issues. Plus, I got to bet, it has all the good protections, so if it did go, it would not take anything with it. It is a Corsair after all M8. :)
@@PapaMav as psu 's have capacitators, they start degrading , even if the product in sealed in box and kept at normal temps in a store, so this is my worry about buying a psu that was launched in 2017, still has a production line, but might have the bad luck of buying a psu that is from a batch from some years ago

RM for the extra monies I'd go for. Depends on your budget, but 850w gold spec. This ain't bad at all.

technically it has enough connectors, but really needs 4 individual pcie leads if possible
