How to repair a SecretLab Titan

  • The Parts are in! Now it is time to repair my chair. Secretlab sent my warranty multi-functioning tilt assembly (long name) and hydraulics on my Secretlab Titan. I could have done this easier... But I didn't.
    Also hitting that center piece disassembles the hydraulic. only do it IF you are not going to reuse it.

    At 3:20 what kind of drill bit/size did you use on that power drill to remove the screws? Tried removing those screws with my allen key but there's no way.

    After wailing on mine for 30 minutes, I am so glad I heard your voice of reason, and in turn your wife's "just use a metal hammer". My god this was infuriating lol

    I also need to change the same parts (the piston).

      I had to go through the insurance for it. Sorry for the late response. They use some specific insurance company instead of through their website. I’ll try to find it. Was quite a while ago

    Great video and the only one indepth one for home repair. I really need this model to stop swivelling (spining on itself) any ideas on how i could implement this mod on this chair model? Thx

      I haven’t looked into that because I need it to swivel with my desk setup. Do your feet reach the floor fine on it? That’s usually how I manage it. I don’t go criss cross on it

    I figured out (immediately noticed upon watching titans video) that hitting the piston with a hammer is an extremely inefficient way to loosen the base. There is nothing pushing the base away so you're simply hoping that there is enough vibration to break the seal. I took the wheels off and put the chair right side up, so the weight was then on the piston. Then put a wood block on the base right by the piston and hammered there till the base slid off. Took about 4 - 5 hits. I am also currently struggling to get the piston out of the tilt mechanism, think I'm going to get a big pipe wrench in the morning.

    Thanks for the video! I have an exactly same looking titan chair. A pretty nice chair, but I won't buy from secret lab again. The mechanism quality is not there for the price. Gonna go the more classical office chair route after this chair is spent. Also, cool pliers!

    • @thebittersideoftech
      @thebittersideoftech  ปีที่แล้ว

      if you hit the middle it will come out. However, it will pretty much ruin the piston since the gas releases. if you do it that way then make sure you have another.
      They have a video showing how it is supposed to come off. But you know that isn't always the case.

      @@thebittersideoftech I ended up smacking it really hard with a hammer and it finally came off but for me it's just the comfort, I don't find it comfortable. I own the leather 2020 (or 2021) version of the titan but the herman miller I have at work feels so much more comfortable but then I guess £1300 chair vs the £400 secret labs.
