Tyler Jackson of Hearts' Home Acoustics plays a 1930s Epiphone Recording A Tenor Banjo. The banjo has been sold, but you can view pictures of it at store.heartshom...
Me too. I just bought one too. I'm not all that young but I definitely don't remember the 20's or any time even close to that. But I'm getting more and more into old time as they call it. Hundred some odd year old folk, blues, country, ragtime, jazz etc. I probably won't be playing much dixieland jazz but we'll see.
I was gifted a Paramount Style C a few weeks ago. With the help of the internet and the banjohangout forum members, I've got it rebuilt and playing. I've been playing guitar since I was 11 years old and I'm 57 now. This is exactly the banjo style I want to learn. I feel like I'm staring at a mountain I might be too old to climb when I watch this guy. Amazing playing!
@@mike2st808 The Mummers are fun, but Tyler is one of the best tenor players in the world. There isn't a Mummer strutting through Philly that can touch his technique.
@@DiminishedChords very true! But there the two play different styles. Many different strumming techniques are used between Jackson and the mummers. Both are great, but Jackson is a 🐐🐐
AWESOME. Whew - Tyler, you prove the rule: it doesn't matter how good or bad the instrument is, the person playing it that makes it sing. Great, great music.
This is really inspiring. I am going to have to get my old B&D out. I used to play this song with my dad. He played chord melody similar to yourself. I have let my banjo chops go. Did you ever go to FIGA? 100s of tenor banjo players descending on a hotel.
When I was a kid, my friend's parents bought him a tenor banjo (not sure why!). He was tone deaf, so he always got me to tune it for him with a pitch pipe. But one of the strings kept breaking - I'd try and tune it up to the note on the pitch pipe *plunk, plunk, plunk, BANG!* I think we might have had the wrong pitch pipe. The guy at the music store assured us we had the right strings ... LOVE your playing, by the way!
I've finally been able to buy a tenor banjo after many years of searching for a deal. I finally bid on one on Ebay and got no other bidders. It's a bit low rent compared to this one. It's unbranded which is weird. It might be handmade. But it works alright. I'm happy with it.
Wonderful! You sound so great, and you are so young! You make it seem so easy! Keep on picking my friend! Love to you! :) I happen to own a 1920's Epiphone Recording A. It has been battered quite a bit. I had to rebuild the resonator, and it has a bear claw tailpiece which i don't think is original. A peculiar thing about it, is that it seems to be of an early enough date that Epiphone had not really finalized their design yet. My best guess is 1926. Great sounding banjo -i just wish i had a right hand that could play it! 5-string is so much easier for me! :)
Good tenor playing.its not only a dying art but they took this instrument and change it for the worse.i played with Roy smeck over the years and edgar stanistreet and I'm so happy to see on utube someone who is playing the tenor the right old way.it makes me happy.i teach old school and proper studies.and thanks for showing a new generation what this unlimited precious time instrument is capable of doing.
Hi, I just posted my version of Bye Bye Blues on TH-cam and although I play it in Bb, the second part of my video might be very helpfull as it contains the tablatures. Grtz. Leo th-cam.com/video/sEW4btBTyK0/w-d-xo.html
Man, I played a Recording A in a store last week - sounded like utter crap! Must need some TLC, this one sounds great. Playing is out of this world, too.
Hi Nicole. This would be considered "Dixieland" or "Pizza Parlor" style banjo. This style was made popular on the Plectrum banjo by Eddie Peabody in the 1920s. The style experienced a revival in the 1950s-60s when the banjo was the primary instrument at Shakey's Pizza, Your Father's Mustache, The Red Garter etc. The name of the song is Bye Bye Blues.
had to put my banjo down and listen. don't think i will ever play again lol.
that was awesome
Never stop doing what you do. The world needs more Dixieland.
Hope people can appreciate how slick your strumming is. Thats tight.
Good to see a young guy playing tenor jazz banjo, and so well. It's been close to being a dying art.
I just got one and I’m loving it

awesome playing. He looks so relaxed! yet the music is intense
Absolutely love it. As a drummer of 30+ years, I recently acquired a Bacon & Day tenor. Can’t wait to embark on my banjo journey.
He cant help but have fun. What a cool song
Toto je hudba! Ďakujeme Vám! 😊
Thanks!
Wow! You sure don't hear 4-string banjo playing like that very often these days. Great!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
This is a late reply but look up Philadelphia mummers string bands. They play like this all the time

My dad played this on his banjo. Bless you for sharing.
Wow are you professional ! Great arrangement and I haven't heard a tenor banjo played like that in forty years. Thanks.
AWESOME. Whew - Tyler, you prove the rule: it doesn't matter how good or bad the instrument is, the person playing it that makes it sing. Great, great music.
I was considering the banjolele because banjos are bigger. But man, I love tenor banjos too 😂😂 nice tune!
That was danged delightful! Thank you!

Very nicely done!!! NH
A true maestro. Bravo, sir, bravo!
Awesome banjo and even better playing... I wish I had the $$ in my banjo budget for this beauty...
It's like Wander and Sylvia are wandering in their galaxy still and Wander is playing this awesome jazzy motive.
Outstanding!
Completely awesome!
sounds great...my dad has a couple tenor banjos... one just like this one and a dragon epiphone recording.... awesome music

let me guess, he sold you the pitch pipe, and the strings?
I love this.
This is how it's done! Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks!
Amazing job! Thank you for this awesome music!
Great, great playing.

never realized the super mario soundtracks are banjorelated :D
I was thinking the exact same thing
That's what inspired me to pick up the tenor banjo!
They aren’t they are based off a japanese fusion band T square. Listen to the album you’ll hear all your favorite levels.
its more that mario soundtracks are ragtime/trad jazz/swing related
Awesome!!
this guy is insane omfg
jaw dropping wow..................
jeez, did somebody give this guy a banjo while he was still in the cradle?
That's really great! Do you know where I can get tab for tunes like that? Chicago tuning?
это такие звуки, от которых невольно улыбается лицо
