Beholder is an adventure video game about life in a totalitarian police state. It is inspired by the dystopian works of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, and Ray Bradbury. Carl is a government-installed landlord in a totalitarian state. The State appoints Carl to spy on the tenants. The player can bug apartments while tenants are away, search their belongings for whatever can threaten the authority of the State, and profile them. The State requires the player to report anyone capable of violating the law or plotting subversive activities. The game offers the player the choice of either following the commands of the Government or siding with the people who suffer from the oppressive directives.

The fact Kevin never checked those menus leads to so much extra comedy, like the guy who he had to brute force listing his job on the report when it was on screen, or reporting that guy he just guessed was his son and decided to frame his son anyway lol

I'm guessing OP means that because Kevin never checks the menu options or rules, he never turned on a function that better labels all the people that couldve helped me a lot, and he kind of just trips his way through the game hehe
@@Nancy-jc4bv I don't know about the game settings, I was more referring to like the menus with the profiles and stuff, I'm probably missing an example since this is months later but that profile he kept failing to report since he couldn't figure out the guy's job... it's on the menu on screen at like 12:17 , 12:42 is a particularly funny example since... he has to pick and... it tells him on screen on the same menu on the right LOL
Can we talk about how Kevin literally does nothing but socially unacceptable and violent stuff (ingame, gotta specify) but he’s still the most comforting and wholesome person ever??

I literally played the demo as a kid and just remembered it a few months ago and brought it. I adore this game so much
I would recommend Beholder 2 aswell. Sadly 3 is not as good as the others(in my opinion)
@@LauchTV2311 really? I really enjoyed playing the 1st, I bought the 2nd and I was disappointed. I think it's super long and the time system is so annoying (having to go all the way to work then all the way back home everyday 😩). I gave up and thought the 3rd might be as good as the 1st.
@@bibaoreo4355 As someone who also didn't like the 2nd, the 3rd is closer to the original Beholder experience, but slightly less interesting. It does re-introduce the whole landlord thing on top of the bureau mechanic!

Really think you would love this game if you continued it! When you get to know the characters some of them are really nice like the Schimmers and it's the state who's against them and if you help the tenants you can unravel quite alot of story :)
Also some small tips, profile the tenants for some extra cash! Don't try to blackmail twice for the same thing, but you're fine to blackmail them, get the money, then go read the evidence again and then evict them if that's what you want. If you know you're gonna evict someone soon, right before you evict them go to the apartment and steal all of their stuff, including illegal things, you can still sell those and they're worth more after they become illegal, and cause you go turn them in right after you're done stealing no one is gonna know that you stole since the new tenant will bring their own stuff :D just remember to leave the evidence for the thing you are turning them in for otherwise the police will search and go like huh nothing there and fine you quote heavily
I was hoping Kevin would find that loophole that lets your turn in Carl's own family, and of course he made full use of it! 😂

For such a cartoony visual style, the events in this game are very realistic for landlords.

Also, it’s kind of funny watching Kevin play the first game 4 years after he played the second. I had to go back and make sure it was him I was thinking of too lol

This is like how Kevin plays the Sims except (1) you get paid (2) you need actual evidence to make others suffer so I guess it's neither better nor worse
I love how the game seems to be balancing doing what is right by your family with doing what is right for your community.
Basically, you are supposed to be forced into harming others to protect your own. Instead you just framed your son for no reason.

NPCs becoming mortal enemies for standing up to Kevin seems on brand to me. It's pretty much how we got the Vidcund saga 😹

I have the same problem. I get so anxious about being caught and messing everything up with my choices that it’s super cathartic to see Kevin just, “I’m already leaving.” and plot against everyone. 😅
Seeing the title pop up and knowing that Kevin played the Beholder instantly put a smile on my face :)
For some reason I didn't think of Beholder just because of the title so when I clicked the video and saw what it was, I got so excited.
