- In 2003 he became the first openly gay bishop in all of Christendom, when the Episcopal Church consecrated Gene Robinson the 9th bishop of New Hampshire. Death threats followed, but so did a shift in the relationship between the LGBTQ community and the church. "Sunday Morning" senior contributor Ted Koppel talks with Bishop Robinson about his quest to live an authentic life; and with other gay bishops serving today whom Robinson calls his legacy.

This brought me to tears, I’ll never understand this kind of hate, or any kind for that matter.
Agreed, but but do you really love him more than those that you think hate him? Hate is to harm. Who is harming and who is loving and trying to actually help? People have chosen to lose understanding of the love and the abilities of Jehovah Rapha and they instead settle for what hurts people more rather than God’s best for them. Is that live? Is that hate? Wouldn’t you think that the person who loves this man is the one who shows him God’s loving solutions and perfect truth? God‘s ways are truly best and he didn’t design us to miss out, agreed? Romans one makes it clear that God‘s truth is revealed to all so man is without excuse, what a blessing, no one but those who choose hell go there, but it also goes on to say some do trade in God’s best for the compromises and God will allow a hardness of heart and Hell to anyone who rejects God’s best in favor of being their own god and the eternity without God and his goodness that comes with that choice. I know many people who know longer live in that lifestyle I, but sadly their testimonies are often taken off the Internet, why can’t we hear about the people who feel better off after leaving that lifestyle? Why is the truth of their testimony slandered and even removed from others being able to hear about the greater joy they now have?

Christ’s love is righteous. He died for our sins and expects us to “go and sin no more.” The normalization of behaviors that are in direct misalignment with God’s plan for marriage and procreation is heretical. Loving the LGBTQ+ community means showing them the Gospel and the Word of God and praying for their repentance and alignment with God’s tenets. Affirming sin, twisting scripture, and calling those who admonish these practices as Pharisees, bigots, problematic; is in itself a significant problem. As an Episcopalian (there are many orthodox Episcopalians) I denounce these heretical practices and pray with wholeness of heart and brotherly love that the Holy Spirit brings these individuals to truth in God and that these heresies cease. That the Church move away from heresy and not continue to devolve. Jesus may very well send them away from His sight on Judgment Day.

My wife and I have gay friends who we love.
Edit; We have posted a pride flag on our fence for 11 years with only positive feedback. Recently, someone picked up a big rock from our garden under the flag and smashed the windshield of the car in front of our house.
It is our neighbor’s car. He has added a lot more security cameras which cover our house too. I’m glad we’re still friends.

Noone is judging, i love all believers but I bring this up out of love not judgment. Homosexuality is a sin and a leader in the church will be judged for leading people astray to believe that living in that sin is ok.

Gene was the chaplain in residence for many seasons at Chautauqua Institute on Lake Chautauqua in western NY state. I saw him many times there. I didn’t know the Episcopal church had a history similar to what’s currently going down in the Methodist church. For shame.

The Scriptures are very clear...Gene Robinson and all other practicing homosexuals WILL NOT enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Period, but when you decide to ignore the Word of God, you can justify ANYTHING. GOD did not call this man to a homosexual lifestyle, nor to be a bishop. The Episcopal Church does not accept the holiness that God calls his people to have, especially those in leadership roles. God is Not to be mocked.

For all that actually watched the piece you will know a main difference is the episcopal church has no vows of celibacy. Priests and bishops could marry and have children.

The Episcopal Church has been known as the _middle way_ between Catholic and protestant.

😇Great story, the biggest thing that I didn’t realize when I came out…… was that I’ll have to come out over and over for the rest of my life. And then you have to decide if it’s safe or worth it in every situation. 😔 Also you’ll find that ppl will say they’re ok with it until you realize it’s excepted in percentage’s. I'm an atheist yet I accept/respect those who believe in GOD. I've been a LGBTQI+ supporter going on 36 years now. Homophobics such as those seen in this story probably have more of a hard time seeing reports like the than people as me.

Ironically the readings in the Catholic Church this past weekend include God’s instructions to Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach God’s word lest the city be destroyed if it didn’t change its sinful ways relating to sexual immorality and from the Gospel where Christ exhorts sinners to repent and follow him.
"sexual immorality" Is that so? The Book of Jonah says no such thing. Also, this isn't the Catholic Church.
The Episcopal Church is on life support. It won't be around 50 years from now. Once the old money is gone, TEC will be out of business. That is the grim reality. My husband is a former Episcopal Priest. We converted to Roman Catholic 12 years ago. Many Episcopal priests left TEC because of Gene. Very sad!
Only one without sin was Christ! That means everyone else sinned including the aspotles. Whether you go to heaven or hell is up to God, he is the final judge. But thru Christ we may be saved.

Homosexuality is absolutely incompatible with Christian Teaching. Both Old and New Testament totally condemns homosexuality as abominable sin. If you are a true Christian, you follow God’s word.

I was a member of the Committee on the Consecration of Bishops which recommended to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church that Father Robinson become Bishop Robinson.
I am glad to have worked with +Mary Glasspool when she was in the Diocese of Maryland and was the leader of our Deputation to General Convention.
It’s a sad day to take the Word of God & try to bless sin. Beware of false teachers & false prophets you will know them by their fruit.

Ya know, God has always had a habit of picking people who are deemed unworthy by society. Despite ourselves, He’ll continue to move and do his best work. Let they always say he can turn a mess into a message. My hope in 50 years it’ll be more about the Word than people focused on flaws, identities,expressions, whatever you want to label it because we serve an infallible, flawless God who loves his creation. We gotta just move out of His way and let Him work.

God, I love this man...and so does God (YHWH)!!! God Bless the Episcopal Church in America for being such a pioneer on this front! As a recently-converted Methodist, I only hope our Church Family can swiftly move in this same direction, towards acceptance of ALL Christians, regardless of their orientation or sexual identity!!

Read your Bibles. Homosexuality is a sin. We can’t affirm any sin. Praying for him to repent and turn from sin so he can be saved.
Those who read the bible WITH CONTEXT (and not just what your local pastor says) know what the Bible says. Also, Paul is not Jesus, just to be clear.
As a Catholic, I personally do not think I could stay in a Church that encourages me "to be myself" and allows me to go against God's beautiful plan for heterosexual marriage and chastity. That is why Pope Francis's Fiducia Supplicans is a masterpiece: sin cannot be blessed but sinners, who seek the Lord, can be blessed (paraphrase).

That being said, I still watch/listen to protestant sources because of their zeal and seriousness about reading the Bible in daily basis.

When people have hatred in their hearts, they'll spew it and the gay community is an easy target...always untie name of religion.
Granted there’s still a long way to go, but I don’t miss my teen years (early-mid 2000s) where anti gay slurs were as casual as breathing. Hell, even being a gender nonconforming straight person made one a target

In the Catholic Church, the requisites for being canonized as a saint are, having lived the theological and cardinal virtues at the heroic degree: faith, hope, and charity, plus prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. That works all across the Catholic world; it's a lengthy process not much different than a trial.
In the Episcopalian Church there are no such canonizations, but notable people are commemorated in a calendar. Interesting.
