Massive fan of the Sonata’s looks (might be an age thing I like the Lexus styling as well in the flesh). Didn’t think I would like it until I saw/drove one. Still a fan of the Mazda but it’s getting on and is missing some features that the Sonata has. The Hyundai was far more enjoyable for me to drive and put a smile on my face each time the boost kicked in. The kids loved roof and sun shades in the back and the room was bigger than my old Falcons. Very happy we are still able to get interesting sedans under 65k. Canceled my SUV order and picking up my Sonata next week (in Red).

Ive had a 6GT also for 6years, i would have got another Mazda 6 GT with Turbo this time, but the whole car is too Dated, i couldnt bare to use that Entertainment system again for another 6years, so slow and behind with the times.

Having driven both of these, the Mazda left me impressed and soothed but the Sonata blew me away and I didn't want to give the keys back. It was so much more fun to drive, sounded far better and felt special in a way that the Mazda didn't. I also think the Sonata steals the show in the flesh with some pretty head turning looks which I don't think translate well in pictures and videos. The Sonata is the one that has stuck with me and would be my pick of the two

Interesting comparison although a little strange as you should have both cars as sedans, I disagree that the Mazda is more swish in the cabin, it’s still nice but that screen and layout looks dated and too conservative for 2021 where Hyundai are at least pushing the boundaries of design a little more.

I think the Mazda6 wagon's dimensions fits the Mazda Kodo design best of the Mazda model range, unfortunately with so many smaller, higher CX and MX models with 'squashed' fronts, people don't see the wider lower 6 shape. I have a Mazda6 2016 Sport Wagon and couldn't imagine getting lots of luggage into the Sonata's letterbox style boot opening.

ive had the sonata for around a month in the 'hampton grey'. i wasn't too sure on paper - the look of the front and rear end together with the FWD only put me off... then i drove it and bought it a few days later ;-) they've done a really good job with the FWD, but yeah if you put the foot down you know its a FWD. Looks good in the flesh, the side view is awesome, but ill be adding a small after market spoiler on the back. Tech is good, it'll drive itself if you let it and great sound system too. For the price its a good car, i also drove a stinger - although i love kia in theory, whenever i drive one it never quite grabs me...lets wait and see if there will be a Sonata N??

    • @generaldamage3282
      @generaldamage3282 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@kulaak-krii Sonata is 56k AUD drive away, stinger is around 70k drive away so not that much more expensive - nearly a 12 month wait time when I checked though! You could get a 2019 model stinger with low km for $56k, depends if your set on a new car or not… it’d have less tech in terms of digital display and entertainment compared to the sonata. If you go for that option try to find one where theyve done the whole ceramic coating thing and possibly tinted windows, hopefully not more than 40k km on the clock. I found the stinger quite small inside as in a bit cramped, though that’s more of a styling thing rather than actual less space- boot space is much less in the stinger even though it has the better ‘’lift back’ style.
AWD is the best option in my mind, the only good comparable large sports sedan I found was a VW arteon which is a great car but more $$ again. There’s a new model of that now including the ‘amazing looking ‘shooting brake’ wagon version, but it’s around $80k plus I think - not good enough for that money IMO. Other good option I was looking at was a BMW 430i (440 closer to stinger specs, but too pricey), but to be comparable in price it’d need to be a 2016/2017 second hand one with like 60k km on it. Audi A5 4-door not bad either, S5 would be the go.
sonata is a pretty big car, boot space is huge which I needed for work, I don’t use the back seats much apart from a kid seat in there. I’ve only had 1 speeding fine so far, sonata can beat a mustang off the line, though they’ll win above 80km/hr or so. Overall it’s not the perfect car, but for the price it’s really great and I’ve whored mine up a bit so it looks pretty good too.
I also test drove the following:
Holden commodore VXR (really like it, too risky with them gone under)
Peugeot 508 wagon (looks great, underpowered and cramped inside)
Skoda superb sportsline wagon (goes well and is massive, but boring looking, especially inside)
Mazda 6 (meh, wait for the redesign)

I’ve owned several Mazda’s over the years and just said goodbye to my 2016 CX5 diesel after 5 years. I really like Mazda’s in general, however their MZD infotainment system is woeful. I drive around 30,000kms per year and use the entertainment and communications system a great deal. The CX5’s system would restart randomly, glitch out with vertical bars of interference on the screen and the reverse camera would occasionally not display an image.
Mazda did firmware upgrades and reflashed this and that but nothing ever fixed it.
Until they revamp their whole infotainment system I won’t by another Mazda.
I have a Subaru Outback now and the infotainment system is much better.
I really like what Hyundai and Kia are doing with their cars. I’d take the Sonata without a second thought.
Actually, if Kia could jam that motor into the Cerato GT, with torque vectoring, it’d be a killer package
