Hey kimchi lm practicing 3g vertical i have problems keeping it flat sometimes i put too much metal and my weld comes out with big lump before cap (last fill pass). Is it because excessive heat?
Hi, Michael! It's because there's a lot of heat in the middle! There are many reasons why heat gathers in the middle. The heat must be dissipated while staying on the left and right, and the angle and arc length of the welding rod are also important. It's also a problem if you try to go up quickly before you get heated by the base material. Make sure that heat does not gather in the middle by changing the welding method. I hope you find the cause and pass the test soon😁😁
@@kimchiwelder8410 on vertical how many minutes do i let it cool off in between passes. Last class i welded everything around 120. Your technique works for me! I think the problem is i weld with too much heat on my plate. And towards the end i end up with too much metal sticking out before the cap. I must keep practicing 3g. Thanks to you i can weld 4g no problem now!
@@kimchiwelder8410 Hello kimchi was this 3/8” thick material? And how long did u wait between passes to start welding again. I always go bassed off your video in welding class it helps out allot & its been going good! . Last class my welding was not the best! I think it’s because i was rushing and trying to cap my plates off before class was over. I feel like i dont have much welding time and cool off time so. I will try doing root & fill at 118 and cap at 115.
Well, the second root wasn't done properly and I don't see any of the 3 bends. Those are required too. Welds can be pretty and still have faults underneath.
Hello, It may vary depending on the location of the welding(top, bottom or vertical, etc), Amperage, etc. But it usually maintains an 80 degree angle! Thanks for watching!😎😎
Hello kimchi how were you able to do both cover pass with 2 stick rods? Every time for my cover i have to restart in the middle and use a new rod to complete.
Hello, Michael The most important thing is to fill up the fill pass as much as possible. The second is to weld the cap pass as thin as possible👍 Thanks for watching! 😎😎
Been practicing this for a few days, after watching this I’m confident in passing my 3GF in the new year, also seen another comment about this being at the 488 shop, I’m actually apprenticing there for my 1st year, nice shop to practice

Hi, I am wondering what amperage were you running?
Oh I have seen that you used +/-120. What amperage did you use for last cap, please?

What is your inclination, thanks

Yes, Janjua Surjit 👌
Between 105 and 115 is appropriate!

What do you run your amps at?
