To those thinking that this series is for mecha fans only, I suggest you try it first. I actually first played SRW back when I was like 6 and I don't know any mecha series at that time. Fell in love with the series with how challenging it was (it was SRW4) and how great the music and voice acting is.
Who knows, if you try it, maybe you'll become a hardcore mecha fan too.

This game is big in Asia, they didn’t really aim at the west till the later versions. I grew up with this game. It’s one of the best on my list 😊
I would be dissapointed if the scale wasn't referenced. a Code Geass Knightmare even the more advanced and largest models, are very midget sized next to an average Gundam, and most Gundams tend to end up microscopic next to super robot final forms which at the high end become bigger than even imagineable. I could see a knightmare having agility bonuses over most gundams due to a much smaller size, but less armor and in some cases firepower.
Scale does play in to damage/accuracy bonuses
My first SRW experience was Alpha on the PS1. I didn't know any of the robots/characters, but I quicky found that it wasn't all that important. Be it their theme music, mech design, attack animations or character voice acting, I quickly found my favorites to bring into battle! Turns out I was destined to like Kouji Kabuto before I even knew who he was. It's definitely a series that is very intimidating for a newcomer, as the storylines can get very confusing because of the sheer amount there is, but after experiencing a game or two, it's hard not to be addicted. By now, I have played Alpha, Alpha Gaiden, OG, OG2, J, half of W, half of L, and T. (And Endless Frontier, but that doesn't really count.) And I'm just getting started!
Alpha is one amazing starting place. And you hit the nail on the head about how you don't even need to know any units to fall in love with the games. Hope your SRW journey continues to be a great one!

Super robot war was amazing to me I watched the anime saw some it earlier games I was upset I couldn’t get to see those games that didn’t have translated at the time

I'm very happy that there are more people frequently nowadays making videos about Super Robot Wars I've been a fan since the Game Boy Advance the OG Series and never looked back. Personally I just wish they were some more translations out there not that I don't have a problem opening up a second screen and reading the plot. It is hands-down my favorite RPG series

I can confidently say that my meeting with the SRW series was a fateful one. I had a GBA replica with already installed games that would not save any progress whatsoever. However, there was only one game that did save progress... you guessed it... SRW OG1. Played it for the first time in 5th grade and almost at my graduation point, I play the series...
I can't stop and I never will... it's like a damn drug for me...
I am a HUUUGE fan of the OG timeline and have played the OGs (PS2) time and time again. I so badly wanna play Gaiden but the only thing that's hindering me is any sort of English translation for it and I wanna experience the story in all its glory too. Only then can I continue on to the other OG sequels (even though I have em' all just waiting to be played).
Any news on the OG Gaiden patch or anything?
Gaiden has a detailed story guide on gamefaqs. And the sequel to that, OG 2nd has a 1 for 1 English translation you can find online too

Thank you, I actually had never heard of this series. I love the Front Mission series on PS 2 and mecha anime, so after watching your video I just ordered SRW V, SRW 30 & SR Gundam G Generations Crossrays.

@@BaoZakeruga Have played 40 hrs of SRW 30 so far, I'm really loving it. It's kind of like being a 10 year old again and fighting battles with all the expensive action figures you couldn't afford as a kid. Some things make me laugh like the over-used plot twists... I nearly renamed my team "The Mysterious Strangers" as 90 % of them are! Also just navigating the massive number of stat screens is a game in itself. It makes Final Fantasy menus look shallow by comparison. There's so much depth that I think the tutorials are lacking and you have to experiment to find out how things work. Anyway I'm glad you covered this series!
Got SRT OG 2 for Christmas one year and it quickly became one of my favorite games at the time. So happy we're finally getting another one in the west after so long.

Wow, this was a really well done overview of series. Seriously, props are deserved here. This will be a great video to show to two friends I've been mentioning SRW to for a while. They both were at least a bit interested, but I'm definitely not the most convincing person.
This also reminded me about the recent SRW OGs English patch. I guess it's time to see if this newer laptop can handle a PS2 emulator, since it seems nothing new is coming to Fantasy Maiden Wars: Complete Box anytime soon (officially or a fan translation patch).
I definitely recommend looking at the Fantasy Maiden Wars fangames, since they were quite a refreshing change of pace from the typical SRW.

@@BaoZakeruga I'm not sure whether to recommend trying the original 4 games or the Complete Box version.
Three of the original 4 have mostly complete English translations patches (except some menus) while the last has mostly a menu patch at the moment (with the translation LP of having the rest of it until it's transfered). However, the games are fairly different, with it changing from a barebones game resembling the A or R to the third and forth more emulating OGs.
Complete Box has all 77 stages on the same system, along with great graphic improvements and modern SP mechanics. No translation patches yet, but that shouldn't be a problem for an SRW vet (and all of the personal skill are documented on CB's Akurasu).....just no story translations.

@@BaoZakeruga In a similar vein, a friend of mine has been playing through Battle Moon Wars recently, a Type-Moon themed SRW with... height mechanics and a unique range mechanic, and I mean like, FF Tactics height, not "is it flying? Yes/No"

quick question but does F Final have a story translation patch? I've always wanted to try out the SRW that featured Dancouga, Gunbuster, and L-Gaim all in one package.

I wonder what will be the next roster of characters for the next SRW this year in their 30th Anniversary? I heard that they are bringing back Combattler V and Voltes V. Other characters from older games such as X, V, and T also came back. Now I wonder if Bandai would do a crossover with new characters that haven't appear in any game before especially because there are some characters in Gundam mangas that never appear in the series such as Gundam Katana, Font Baud of Crossbone Gundam Ghost, Jess Rabble from Gundam Seed Astray manga. Hmm....there are other mechas animes that haven't debut in SRW yet. What will those animes or mangas be I wonder? I will leave that decision to Bandai and wait till the release because I love SRW games so much that I will wait anytime for it😍😍

It really is criminally underrated. And thank you!
J has a lot of problems though. The cross-series interaction there is very weak. Characters from different shows speak with eachother, but stages are usually self contained with enemies from one show appearing and once you clear them out, enemies from another show appear. And yeah, get ready for seeing enemy reinforcements, because almost every stage has them. Then there's the dodge mechanic where enemies will ignore every unit they have 0% chances of hitting, meaning if you're using a lot of fast, dodgy units and all have good stats/upgrades, the enemies will either go straight for your battleship or stand in place the whole time.

I love SRW especially The Original Generation I have an extreme hated for stage 18 on Srw og 2 for the GBA.

I just Picked up Super Robot Taisen OG Saga on the DS. My 1st Game in the Series. I'm confused, because Idk if I should start somewhere else or is it OK to start from here? 😅
It's a side game that you can play with no knowledge of the rest of the series if you want. If you want more context play Original Generations on ps2. It has an English patch.
Just want to point out I recalled they announced Z series is the last one they will ever make with sequels (Disregarding the OGs). The rest from then are standalone series.
Still no news/updates for that 30th anniversary SRW game or whatever they are planning for this year :(

SSSS.Gridman, Majestic Prince, Brave Police J-Decker, and Knight's & Magic for some modern standouts, we get some classics like Mazin and Getter(Z INFINITY again, but now featuring fuggin MAZINKAISER), and an interesting and somewhat unique set of choices of Gundam series... plus CCA because Sunrise refuses to stop using it

I really wanna start with this series but I don't know Wich one to chose between 5 : T , X , V , OG: Moon Dwellers or 30 Aniversary.

Don't start moon dwellers because you'll be lost. I suggest V since it was the start of the 'modern' era and is a great starting place. 30 is a great starting place too but it's very different to past games. Not in a bad way but I'd still try V.

@Keith Courage RX-78-2 Hmm...maybe you're right. Mecha anime indeed has more cultured group in Japan. There is a cultured group outside of Japan but not much I think....even here in my country. (At least Indonesia where I lived have more cultured group for anime or mechas compared to western. Hmm...probably because SRW games easily turn popular in Indonesia for kids like me🤨🤨🤔). Anime sure go popular quickly in here and I'm not surprised with that😁. Oh right, Super Robot Wars games were never released outside of Japan in the beginning. If I'm not mistaken, SRW 1- SRW games for PS2. Almost all of them except for OG 1 and 2 for GBA and V, X, T (V and X have English language because of Steam while T is available in PlayAsia website just like how SRW OG The Moon Dweller had English but as PS4 exclusive). It is. Just know it's the longest game in the series(over 80 hours) and doesn't go as in-depth with telling about certain terminology and events as past games if you haven't seen the shows
