Bullying in school can be a lasting impact, I know from experience, I was bullied my whole life and eventually it surfaced by having a panic attack and now diagnosed with clinical depression and general anxiety disorder and complex PTSD, I'm 66 now and it still haunts me to this day

Sorry you dealt with that. I recommend CBT. Also read Gabor Mate, and consider some newer therapies, including psilocybin, ketamine infusion, and even MDMA.

I’m sorry. Same here. I was bullied but even worse I had to watch my friend, who sat behind me in homeroom bullied horribly also. He 👦🏽🔫 one weekend and the news didn’t hit me until my father took me to the funeral, and had to walk me up to the casket. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. This was not my friend.. his head was horribly distorted. and what’s even worse??? His bullies and tormenters were there, crying their eyes out and talking about him as if they were his best friend. It was the sickest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

Didn’t know that the song was based on a real boy. I hate and love that song equally because it brings up memories of the worst days of my life. Sometimes I wish I could go back and tell myself that this too will pass and there are better days coming. We are so vulnerable as kids, yet we can cause mayhem to each other. Rest in Peace, Jeremy.

Such a sad story. Surely Jeremy was an artistic and sensitively creative person. What might he have become? One thing is certain, Eddie's lyrics do honor this child's brief life and contribute positively to a broader conversation that is extremely important and very necessary. Are we still not paying attention? It seems as though no one saw the pain that Jeremy was in.

This world truly tries to beat down the most beautiful souls. Don't let it. Keep treading water, keep your head above the filth, and eventually it gets better. It's not weakness to need help. It's ignorance and pride that keep people from getting help for themselves or their children. I was suicidal for most of my life, but after i attempted and failed in the 6th grade (my classmates were "kind" enough to tell me how to do it), I heard a voice telling me I had a purpose for being who I am in this world, and I should never attempt this again.
So I didn't, until after I gave birth to my oldest daughter when I was 30. Motherhood was proving too difficult an experience, and I figured my daughter would be better off without me in the world, dragging her down with my depression. But the lock to the ammunition had been changed, and I couldn't get to it. It devastated me at the time. So I put on my "I'm fine, in fact, I'm hilarious" mask, but my little brother and husband saw right through it.
I was 31 when I started my 3rd attempt with therapy. The prior 2 times were complete jokes. Not every therapist jives with every client, and some people shouldn't be therapists at all. Third time was the charm though, and I met an amazing therapist who helped me lay down a lifetime of trauma. Then she helped me connect that I was on the autism spectrum, had sensory processing issues, and ADHD Inattentive Presenting Moderate. So I began realizing there were tools and vocabulary to help me overcome the obstacles I faced! My parents were wrong; I didn't need to "grow a thicker skin" and "figure it out". Other people a lot smarter than me specializing in Autism and ADHD have already figured out a lot of things, I just needed to learn them for myself!
It's been almost 2 years, but I'll never forget having a breakthrough that forever shifted my perspective! I have had no suicidal ideation, and no depression since that breakthrough. It's so freeing. But it took me 31 years to get to therapy and have a good therapist. And it's been 6 years of therapy and testing and figuring out what works. I'm almost 38 now, and I'm healthier than I've ever been because mentally, I now know it's okay not to be okay, and there are resources. If the first two providers you see are total wastes of time and money, don't give up the search!
When I think of what life for myself, my husband, and my children would be like if I was still trying to muddle through on my own, it makes me so grateful I didn't wait any longer. Life is messy, and beautiful, and traumatizing, and healing. It's worth it to stay here learning until one day, we're naturally promoted on to the next plain of existence. I believe, and know now from experiences I've had personally, that we one day get to see our lives from another perspective. All the injustices of this world, all the pain and sorrow will be understood by us, and we'll be able to learn more. No more mysteries. Sure knowledge. I think the tragedy of suicide is that a beautiful soul is too tired from the battle to hold on for that day to come naturally. Hold on. Reach for knowledge. It does get better. And remember: suicide doesn't end the pain, it just passes it along to someone else. Who do you love? Shield them from that pain, by holding onto hope that there is some higher purpose for it and one day you'll understand (& read the book, "The Body Keeps the Score". It's a tough read as repressed memories come up, but it's years of mental health and neurological research about what we know currently about mental health).

Kids are cruel. If you are the object of their cruelty and are trapped in a school room with those kids every day for years on end, it wears you down. If home is not a place of safety or your parents are so caught up in their work and themselves that they are oblivious to the side of their own child that they do not know, then where can you go? Who can you turn to? It seems at the time, there is no one. The mother in the video thinks she loved her son and he was fine but she really didn't know him at all "I was in shock" she said. His anger built and he was dying within. He dreamed of revenge and it boiled down to either killing the bullies or himself. Sadly he chose himself. I wonder if any of those kids, teachers, parents, ever realized the part they played in this poor kid's death? I was Jeremy. I somehow managed to hold on to a shred of sanity and survive. I suffered in silence until I could graduate and escape. What happens to you in those years when you are figuring out who you are has a very profound long term effect. If you are a sensitive kid like Jeremy (and like I was) you internalize this and think "there must be something wrong with me." As an adult I have managed to overcome it and some might even say thrive. This all happened to me years ago, but I will bear the scars of those healed wounds until the day I die. Be kind. You never can really know what may be going on in another person's life. One friendly gesture may make the difference between living or dying.

I completely understand the families feelings and I would be upset too. However in this situation I would say to the family. your grief and emotions are not being disregarded, but at the end of the day this issue is bigger than Jeremy. At the time this happened, this certainly wasn't the first time something like this had occurred, it wasn't as common, but it did happen. I know this is no solace to his family, but at least Jeremy didn't take anybody else with him, cause now a days they are killing in mass numbers. Now Jeremy had legit mental health issues. I have battled mental illness, I was able to beat it, but not everyone can. Unfortunately if someone has made up their mind to end their life and are serious about it, there's not much you can do to stop them. I don't care if you chain this person to a bed and have family and friends watch over them, if they are determined enough they will find a way. So the message is more important than any one individual.

Mental health (& the stigma that still persists around it, especially in the United States) is still very much a relevant issue bigger than the grief of one set of parents because suicides and mass shooting murder/suicide rampages are spreading like a contagion.

As a public school survivor, though I was never near a shooting, I can see both sides. I feel for all the victims. And everyone involved was a victim, even the shooters. I know personally their pain. I wish they knew it's always darkest just before the dawn, and if they could have held on a little longer, their sun would shine again. And that of their targets would have continued to. It's so sad that we see so narrowly, and can't see past our own pain, that we feel we have to make everyone feel ot too.

My condolences go out to Jeremy's Family, friends and colleagues, and I wish the same to the family and loved ones of Trevor Wilson for his unfortunate incident in Puerto Rico. May God keep them and welcome them into his divine grace.
If you allow me to comment and appeal to all those who suffer in silence and/or who have problems of insecurity, self-esteem or lack of self-love, know that no one is alone and you should talk to your parents, or if that is impossible, open up with your educators whether at school, church or university, as there is always some entity predisposed to help and assist you personally and in secrecy.
Finally the "Apple of discord" or opening "pandora's box";for those subscribers who are averse to freedom of expression:
As for me, instead of these banal and subversive "gender study classes" (or its derivatives - ie: "woke" subjects),should be mandatory classes with the motto of "Experience in society" and instead of promoting "wokeism" should allocate those funds and the respective staff for classes on civic behavior, interpersonal relationships and principles and fundamentals of ethics and morals. we would all be much happier, soft, peaceful and kind...

    • @lbatemon1158
      @lbatemon1158 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's interesting to me, because most "woke" classes DO teach empathy for the realities and situations of other people. It has been my experience that when someone uses the term "woke" to describe a situation, they are essentially saying, "that doesn't apply to my experience, and so I'm going to invalidate it by just shrugging it off as being 'woke' so I don't have to think any more about it". The realities of this broken world we live in is that there are broken homes and broken people. Those of us who love the Healer of all wounds know that Jesus Christ is the only one that can bind up the wounds and heal the broken hearts. But when someone has a divergent experience or reality, and then faith leaders weaponize doctrine against them, I can understand why religion triggers some people.
Please consider seeking out different perspectives. The injustices of this world, just like the gold and glitter of this world, stay in this world and don't follow us beyond the grave. We only know what we know, until we know more. And if the purpose of this life is to learn, then we can either reach for knowledge or have it beaten into us. One of those ways is a lot less painful than the other.

David Pearl was his name. He was a 5th grader. He was a loner. During recess, he found a big chunk of broken concrete, and held it over his head. Everybody gathered around him, as he acted like a psycho, screaming for the other students to back away from him. I stood by, and watched, thinking, what an ass. The bell rang, signalling the end of recess. The SOB, inadvertently, dropped that heavy chunk of rock right on my toe. After that, he just walked away. His audience had lost interest, and started he back to class. There can be different outcomes to this story. And, there are a lot of Jeremys out there. Jeremy lives in every one...

This didn't capture anything. It was cruel and heartless to add to the pain of family and friends. The band knew nothing about the people they based the song on.

I think it's a very sad thing what he did but maybe we'll make these kids realise that bullying can lead to some really really serious consequences for the children that have to go through it and I hope it stays in their f******ever hope it's just there and they can never get rid of it like I hope they feel bad forever just the guilt
It's not just a students is it is also the teachers that done nothing because obviously they don't think was a issue

And we would have a grate time they would be safe loved and made to feel important. Much love to all my my grandkids every where

Outra coisa tbm... apesar d c vr sangue, ñ vemos buracos d bala...

The people who control the actual YT channel for Pearl Jam changed the description to try saying the song was about school shootings, Gun violence, etc.
Even though it’s about bullying, neglect, depression, and suicide. It’s disgusting how people have tried turning the song into something it’s not.
It’s disingenuous to turn it into something that has nothing to do with what the song was made for and about. It tries saying guns are the problem and gets people to believe he shot up his classroom.

I don't,it's mostly about Eddie's life but we honestly do not know what was going on in home and his mother should have known something was wrong or it could've been a mk ultra thing like they've been doing my whole generation. But I know Jeremy will be in a better place when our lord comes back which seems like it's going to be really soon from what the Bible says it's happening soon probably in the next 2 to 4 years

Teachers make a difference why she didn't reach up to him instead of sending him to go get an admittance note. Children are cruel, too. They need to lecture or have seminars with students and parents about suicide prevention. All he wanted was to fit in ?.
