The most heart felt speech. I watched it and teared up only to realize a year and a half later I ended up with stage 4 cancer. Thanks scott for your words of encouragement. I am continuing the fight against cancer for you buddy. It's been two years and I am still living.
Don’t write his story. You don’t know what he was thinking. He was a fighter. At no point would he give up. When he said goodbye to his family it was probably in a more intimate setting than an awards ceremony.
I'm positive that he did know his remaining time was short .... which makes it even more remarkable how he was able to make the CROSS-COUNTRY trek to that ESPY presentation. He had JUST been released from the hospital ... maybe TWO days prior (I know someone said how close it was ... it may have been the day before). He may have known that would be his last public appearance.
@@dhinton1 I agree, when he said “have a good rest of your life “ I believe he knew this would be his final time on tv and that was his farewell to his fans
He will always be a legend. I just hope people will always show him to their kids or anyone who thinks they have it hard because he will show them what you can do in the hardest situations
“Have a great rest of your night, and have a great rest of your life.” Stu knew he wasn’t gonna make it. And he chose to make his final big message 100% positive and inspirational. A man who loved life. Rip Stuart

ESPN hasn’t been the same since stu died. His passion and charisma were unmatched. He was literally the soul of ESPN. An amazing commentator but an even better father and human. f*ck cancer.
The day he died I played this. My roommate not being a sports fan didn't know who he was or his story. The video came to an end and my roommate is wiping away tears. It takes her a minute but when she is composed she looks over at me and asks "Why did you just play that?" Without thinking I tell her the truth and bluntly say "oh I've been thinking of this video all day because he died." ...immediate waterworks. I forgot she didn't know the ending to this story. RIP Stuart. You'll be missed.
He brought the streets to ESPN not just lingoe but presence to change gears in a split second he took ESPN to a new level but u hear in his speech his bosses he was ESPN he was the boss that showed commentment and good nc values u can't beat a educated southern female or male that's committed
My dad recently died to cancer in his bed, he started making groaning noises while exhaling during his last 4 hours. His eyes were closed and he opened them and started tearing up about an hour before he was declared dead. Rest in peace dad 😔😔
Perhaps they disliked it because it is so sad that Stuart was battling cancer and eventually died. The up and down thumbs are not enough to explain why they disliked it.
The people who disliked likely care for a loved one who is terminal. Not all stories are about strength. My wife has stage IV cancer. It is hard to watch videos like this at this point in my life.
What’s so crazy it’s 1am and I’m up in tears thinking how grateful I am for watching Stuart and missing him now! there isn’t a president I’ve ever thought about after death and truly missed! We need more people that can touch your heart rather through sport actions or their words!!
It’s been nine years and ESPN has never been the same without this man. Stu would always read to us viewers every morning and it was always a joy to listen to. He was a part of our lives and when he passed, it felt like losing a family member. He made SportsCenter the best sports show on TV and it’s not the same without him. Thank you for all the memories Stuart Scott, RIP. ❤
Dang it man - made it through the whole speech and then when he called his daughter up - got choked up. As a fellow girl dad club member, couldn’t help it. I know how those hugs are. Can’t ever get enough of ‘em. Salute to my fav sports anchor all-time & all-time girl dad. RIP S.S. 🫡
Ladies and gents if u r watching this tonight it has been 3 years to the day he left us. I watch this every year on this date. I looked up to stu. I love ya man. I miss u so much.
As soon as I likes this I started crying 😭, Stuart was such a nice man and made me love ESPN. Around the Horn reminded me of him and I miss watching him on tv but hope he’s at peace now.
The human spirit is amazing. The emotion and strength of this man is absolutely empowering. Every time I turn my pillow over to the cool side I think of him.
When Stu died I was emotional and realized how big a part of my life he played. Every morning Stu read me the news. Im 30 years old and still have never lost a person that was actively in my life. To this day, a man I never met was the biggest loss to me.
be very grateful that u went 30 years with only scott being someone in your daily life that is now gone. as time goes by the close ones will start to go and it will be tough but perhaps u can use how u felt about scott to get through it
Him saying have a great rest of your life makes me think he knew the end was near. Through it all he always held his head high and never lost his spirit. I miss him on sports center and ESPN in general.
Every year on his anniversary I come back to this video to remind my self to never give up on anything in life Stuart's words will live on forever RIP Stuart Scott you were as cool as the other side of the pillow.
Everything about this clip is what is absent in everything we watch today, and what we miss, truly, deep down within all of us. The humility. The class. The inspiration. The courage. No politics. No agendas. No lecturing. Just pure entertainment and a moral lesson we can all take away. RIP to Stuart Scott, and Keifer, you showing up knowing that 24 was this man’s favorite show, is an example of what all good men should strive to be
He had a God given ability to draw you in with his voice, his words. His understanding of the game(s) in which he reported/described with intricate detail, what spot on. Every time. No doubt Stuart Scott was and is one of THE best all time in the business. He truly is as cool as the other side of the pillow.
I pray to God I never have to go through what him or his family did. My leukemia is currently in remission and every once in a while when I need to be reminded to not ever give up I give this wonderful speech a listen and it rejuvenates my drive to keep going. RIP Stuart Scott you inspire so many still.
How could anyone give a thumbs down on this video, utterly ridiculous. Stuart Scott would probably say something like "you better check yourself". Rock on Stuart, you are MISSED
This is the most emotional encouraging speech in sports history. Stuart Scott had touched the hearts and soul of every person in that audience and millions of people watching at home all while holding back the pain and anguish of Cancer. Stuart Scott beat Cancer that night and helped encourage the lives of so many people around the world dealing with Cancer as well. Stuart Scott you are a hero and we all miss you so much. Love you Stu!!
My Grandpa just died of stage 4 liver cancer. He touched many souls and always said “It’s nothing I can’t handle.”. He never gave up. I came to hear Stuart’s speech so I can be reminded how strong both my grandpa and Stuart was. It’s not about “losing” to cancer, it’s about fighting and being around people and seeing that your life has a purpose. Could watch this speech all day. RIP Stuart Scott💕
If the world had more men like Stuart Scott walking around the world would be a far better place. Rest easy and you are the definition of what being as cool as the other side of the pillow really is.
To the 71 people (it was 72 a few days ago) who gave this a "thumbs down", can you explain why? Was the speech too long? Did the camera go to the audience too often? It's one thing to not be completely riveted by this man of utter class and bravery - just the fact that he's on stage a few days after having multiple surgeries is incredible - but to deliberately give a negative gesture is mind-boggling to anyone with a soul.
My sister just got diagnosed with breast cancer recently, she’s only 40 and having a really difficult time emotionally and mentally. I came back to this video to get a little inspiration for the upcoming battle our family will be embarking on. Lost my dad to prostate cancer 11 years ago today and then my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks later. Luckily she’s 10 years free now and I know my sister will win as well. But f*ck cancer. We must end this horrible disease.
Sitting here crying in a Greyhound bus station. Can't believe anyone could dislike this. I pray that God will give me the courage to have the grace to pass on half as bravely as he did
Miss ya Stuart. Sure do miss ya. Now and forever, you are an inspiration. Not because of your cancer, not because of your battle, simply because the way you lived. Your successes, failures, wins and losses hold no candle to the life you lived, and the legacy and hope you have left for us!

My sentiment exactly! There's nothing but pure evil in this world, that goes directly to thumbs down a speech of a lifetime! These people aren't fit to be called people! Rest easy Stuart! God watch over his beautiful family!
Came back to this because today is Stuart Scott’s birthday. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 4 years since he’s been gone, but at the same time, it almost feels like a lifetime ago. This man had a larger than life presence that made him seem bigger than ESPN; bigger than sportscasting in general. At the same time, it was easy to see how humble of a guy he was, how friendly and easygoing he was. I’ll always remember the hours I’d spend watching Sportscenter with him and Rich, watching the highlights on repeat while eagerly waiting for Stuart’s classic catchphrases. He was the Michael Jordan of sportscasters; “as cool as the other side of the pillow.” RIP Stuart. We miss you!
The power of words are forever breaking barriers that inspire . Jimmy V’s speech can’t be topped imo but stu sealed his legacy with this display of courage
