Thanks for helping us to remember and never forget Florence Ballard. Florence went through alot. Fame and personal trials can be hard to endure especially when you don't have the tools you need to deal with it all. She achieved so much yet suffered as much as she achieved. People then are as they are now. Dog eat dog world. She is resting easy now. She is with her loved ones and soon she will be reunited with her babies. She will always be the long suffering and most beautiful Supreme.

To me she was always the cutest, most beautiful and sexiest one. I wanted to cry as you were describing her back story. As she passed in '76, I had just turned 18, making her around 33. It was probably one of the worst times of my life. Screwed up parents, home situation. I wished better for her. Rest in peace my Florence Ballard.

And it was FLORENCE BALLARD who chose the name "Supremes" from a list of names that she was given at Motown's offices. Berry Gordy signed acts to Motown Records and made them change their names ~ probably to AVOID any legal liability from previous years before the act was signed to Motown Records. BG was business wise ~ as well as WILY. I'm glad to find out that Diana paid for Florence's funeral. I always thought that Motown Records paid for it. Now I wonder if, in all these years, had Motown Records ever paid Florence's children any royalties from the Supremes' music. But,....the way MOTOWN operated, what one doesn't know business wise is to THEIR financial advantage. 😡 ⚘❤

Diana Ross doesn't deserve to be despised. Clearly, she's the one who put that group on the charts in the first place! Diana is the one who had the real talent in the group! Time has proven that...hasn't it!?

What I do know as fact is that Diana paid for all of Flo's funeral expenses and set up college funds for her young girls. When Mary was heavily in debt and was struggling financially it was Diana Ross that paid off all her debt...that is 100 facts. Berry picked and groomed Diana Ross for super stardom and she was willing to pay the price to get there.

As a native Detroiter and old-timer who can remember hearing Florence sing way back in 1964 when she was only 21 - before the Supremes achieved worldwide mega-Stardom - her story means a lot to me. Good also to hear mention of other distinguished Detroiters whose names I remember from childhood.

At the time of her death she was planning to make a comeback to the music world. I was a freshman in high school when she passed. She passed on my sister's 31st birthday.

I knew quite a bit of Florence’s story, too, & many of us wanted to BE the Supremes when we grew up. 😊 But sadly, the USA-concept produces a LOT of Florences! I’ve known many who never enjoyed Florence’s fame-but who should have. Little girls who grow up dreaming of having better lives, only to learn that their society perceived them as “lesser,” “unworthy,” somebody to be exploited, mistreated, & in consideration of the other Supremes, a certain level of ruthless, grim determination is often a requirement for “making it” when you’re not a girl or woman perceived as deserving. But it’s nice that someone does remember Florence in person. And that wreck of a headstone: Motown will never live that down in my eyes. I was 14 years old when the ever so beautiful Florence Ballard passed away. I was and still am to this day a huge Supremes fan as they were the most successful singing group of the 1960’s after the Beatles. To this day I still collect Supremes memorabilia while enjoying the fantastic music catalog Florence has left behind. Rest In Peace Florence Ballard and may your family be well.
My grandmother, her sister and lil brother were good friends of with her and heard stories about her with her tone with The Supremes. So sad! ❤️ R.I.P.❤️

At the same time, Paul Williams of The Primes/Temptations asked Diana. Both agreed and Flo asked Mary. Paul Williams’ girlfriend, Betty McGlown became the fourth member to join. Flo had nothing stripped from her. Her demise was self inflicted. She was employed by Motown records and she was irresponsibility insubordinate. She got sacked just like anyone would be with bad attitude. This video is full of lies and inaccuracies.

Good job. I have followed the Supremes since they started until they dispersed in 1977. I think the rape and depression compounded with stardom was too much for Florence. Being pushed to the back didn't help either. I do hope a truthful movie will be done, but not until Diana Ross is gone. I'm glad that Jennifer Hudson dedicated her Oscar ( it think it was the Oscar) to Florence. Finally, I'm sure Florence anni Mary are ooing, hand clapping and foot stomping in heaven. Not until Berry Gordy (92) is gone & Diana Ross (78) is gone, but Ms. Ross has started getting her just dues, Motown has fired her & Decca Records doesn't recognize her as a superstar, her first release "Thank You" is a total flop + during the coronavirus period, she has gained all the weight she'd lost recently. And what's w/the same old tired costumes she has been wearing for the last 20 years or more & that tired wig😫! Burn it up🔥. She used to change costumes five/six times a show, now she rarely change & when she does, it's in something as old as she is. DAMN! It is said that she is worth over $250 million dollars, but u couldn't tell it by her costumes😭! Buy some new gowns & hair & lose that weight & find some good song writers & producers. You're only a shadow of the superstar u used to be.
LISTEN. Is there a way we can do a gofundme for a new headstone for Florence? I know that cemeteries usually have the sections where u can only have the stone in the ground. Flo needs a bigger, stand-up stone with that gorgeous picture of her from her solo photo shoot, the side shot. Best pic ever. There can be a faded pic of the three original Supremes in the background with some music notes and a sparkling microphone or something.

New subscriber here ! Love how you spoke with so much reverence for Florence. I also think that she was not given her dues at all , not even a headstone all those years until after the movie Dream girls that I also didn’t enjoy.
The night before her death she was on the phone with the wife of choreograhper Cholly Atkins wondering why Diana had to act the way she did. She also complained about having chest pains. His wife begged her to go to the hospital. It was also said one of her daughters call family and told them something was wrong and they didn't believe her. Her sister went over to the house that morning and found her on the floor paralyzed from the waist down. Her sister called an ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital.
@@duaneshadd777 Flo's husband was Thomas L. “Tommy” Chapman. He died in 1985 and is buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I've read that their marriage was not the best. Their three daughters are still living, I believe. I read recently two books about Flo and the Supremes, which I recommend: "The Lost Supreme: The Life of Dreamgirl Florence Ballard" by Peter Benjaminson, and "The Supremes: A Saga of Motown Dreams, Success and Betrayal" by Mark Ribowsky.

Thanks, Randy, for paying Florence Ballard a visit. I knew quite a bit of Florence’s story, too, & many of us wanted to BE the Supremes when we grew up. 😊 But sadly, the USA-concept produces a LOT of Florences! I’ve known many who never enjoyed Florence’s fame-but who should have. Little girls who grow up dreaming of having better lives, only to learn that their society perceived them as “lesser,” “unworthy,” somebody to be exploited, mistreated, & in consideration of the other Supremes, a certain level of ruthless, grim determination is often a requirement for “making it” when you’re not a girl or woman perceived as deserving.
But it’s nice that someone does remember Florence in person. And that wreck of a headstone: Motown will never live that down in my eyes. However, for all its flaws, the grounds DO look peaceful & well-tended. Thank you, again, Randy & Crew.

I was 14 years old when the ever so beautiful Florence Ballard passed away. I was and still am to this day a huge Supremes fan as they were the most successful singing group of the 1960’s after the Beatles. To this day I still collect Supremes memorabilia while enjoying the fantastic music catalog Florence has left behind. Rest In Peace Florence Ballard and may your family be well.

At the same time, Paul Williams of The Primes/Temptations asked Diana. Both agreed and Flo asked Mary. Paul Williams’ girlfriend, Betty McGlown became the fourth member to join. Flo had nothing stripped from her. Her demise was self inflicted. She was employed by Motown records and she was irresponsibility insubordinate. She got sacked just like anyone would be with bad attitude. This video is full of lies and inaccuracies.

Good job. I have followed the Supremes since they started until they dispersed in 1977. I think the rape and depression compounded with stardom was too much for Florence. Being pushed to the back didn't help either. I do hope a truthful movie will be done, but not until Diana Ross is gone. I'm glad that Jennifer Hudson dedicated her Oscar ( it think it was the Oscar) to Florence. Finally, I'm sure Florence anni Mary are ooing, hand clapping and foot stomping in heaven. LISTEN. Is there a way we can do a gofundme for a new headstone for Florence? I know that cemeteries usually have the sections where u can only have the stone in the ground. Flo needs a bigger, stand-up stone with that gorgeous picture of her from her solo photo shoot, the side shot. Best pic ever. There can be a faded pic of the three original Supremes in the background with some music notes and a sparkling microphone or something.

The night before her death she was on the phone with the wife of choreograhper Cholly Atkins wondering why Diana had to act the way she did. She also complained about having chest pains. His wife begged her to go to the hospital. It was also said one of her daughters call family and told them something was wrong and they didn't believe her. Her sister went over to the house that morning and found her on the floor paralyzed from the waist down. Her sister called an ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital.
Who was her husband??were was he at.

@@duaneshadd777 Flo's husband was Thomas L. “Tommy” Chapman. He died in 1985 and is buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I've read that their marriage was not the best. Their three daughters are still living, I believe. I read recently two books about Flo and the Supremes, which I recommend: "The Lost Supreme: The Life of Dreamgirl Florence Ballard" by Peter Benjaminson, and "The Supremes: A Saga of Motown Dreams, Success and Betrayal" by Mark Ribowsky.
