    There will be phases of disappointment, but then... practice makes progress. You're doing just fine. Think baby-steps. We've been through similar episodes with our old house. Every little progress was a victory to be savoured. In the end you'll be happy. (Weather and finances can be your enemy, but that's what planning is for.)

    By pouring the sealer directly onto the floor, it went faster. Pour it into a cup, and dip your brush in it. The product should last longer.

      Yes, I wanted to text you from Florida and say no pouring -get a cup and dip your brush in a don’t cover a section twice. 🤦🏼‍♀️ more research on technique needed before a project.

    Really think it’s going to be amazing .Why did you decide to not do the main house first

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We hope so! We decided to start with the longere because French stone house renovation is new to us, (we’ve done two wood frame homes back in Nz) and we have a lot to learn. We’ll likely make mistakes and we don’t want to make all of them in the big house.

  • @nancymcclain2533
    @nancymcclain2533 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think you should raise the floor ( Add a Layer) Its too close to level with yard. and there are things you can do to force rain water away from foundations. Slopping, culverts, gulleys Etc. Often just an inch works.,as you know water flows DOWN

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip, the first thing we did to this floor was raise it up about six inches so it's in a much better spot. You can see that process here: th-cam.com/video/Rccd7Iu7Px8/w-d-xo.html

    Happy you got the floor sorted my heart stopped there for a moment looking how that guy left you without doing a good job. Can you explain the original purposes of the main house and one you are living in?

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure! So the main house is a "Maison de maitre" which means "Master's house" and was generally home to a wealthy landowner who was overseeing his property/business, whether that was a forest for lumber, or farms, or a mill etc. The longere (where we live) would have been home to the people who actually worked on the land, or in the Master's house. Essentially we're living in the servant's quarters 😂

    What about pouring a self-leveling floor?

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a self leveling floor 🙈 that’s why we were so shocked at the state of it. It’s not supposed to end up like it did.

    • @jmfs8738
      @jmfs8738 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@growinginfranceRemember when the concrete guy kept rolling the mixture a couple of inches at a time? That’s what the finished floor looked like to me; a very particular ripple pattern.

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmfs8738 Yeah that's normally what they do to take the bubbles out (I've seen it done before) but then it's supposed to return to level afterwards, and not just set like that. Super bizarre what happened!
