This was excellent! I even "converted" a friend at work who insisted she hated salisbury steak, then she tried your recipe I brought in for lunch and said she changed her mind. It was delicious!
The Taste is a must... and I'm surprised I thought you two were too young to do the old tin foil TV dinners.. you remember you had to roll back the tin foil over the brownies or apple pie slot.. And definitely did the TV dinner trays I thought that was a military USA thing... but to this day I still love the taste of that Salisbury steak with that gravy..
Lovely all the way around. I still buy the Salisbury steak dinner from time to time and I too mix everything together. Thanks for sharing your memories and recipe.
The recipe looks fabulous and I will definitely try it. But even more important I love the fact that you talk about family and eating meals together with no electronics. We have lost the importance of spending time with family and building relationships. Meal time is a great time for just that. Thank you for your constant inspiration.
My kids (and likely my husband and I) have the flu this Christmas so a big Christmas dinner is not on the menu. So I made this tonight because I had the ingredients on hand and it was fantastic! Thanks to you both and Merry Christmas!
This meal is one that "Simple, Ordinary and Joyful" fits very well. Simple to make, a very ordinary meal and joyful to the taste buds. I never thought to make it in my Instant Pot, but now I will try it. I like many others love "TheTaste". As always thanks for sharing this recipe, I look forward to trying it.
Hi Flo, thank you to both you and Dude for all the great videos. I have the Kitchen Aid meat grinder attachment for my mixer, and I love it. We often make grind both beef and bacon together to make homemade burger. Hope that helps. Continue the great work!
I use the meat grinder for the Kitchen Aid when I am going to grind meat for dinner. I also have a stand alone metal meat grinder to process wild game to put in the freezer.
I made this for the Family last week. I had problems with the patties breaking up but the end result was amazing! Everyone loved it, the kids ate well! I served over rice with Asparagus for a veg.
I have made this one and it's good! I only wish I'd smooshed my patties down more because when the cooked they swelled up but still cooked all the way through! Thanks for the first one of yours I just had to make! I put them into flour tortillas for some fat wraps with the sauce and couple of french fries in each one. This left me with a fair amount of the sauce so I made a batch of Jasmine rice and added it to the leftover sauce and that was a winner! I ate some of the rice and tonight added a bag of cooked chicken to it and now I have food for the rest of the week that isn't frozen. I froze the wraps. I guess I'm an oddball to some because I like all of my meats to have no pink at all anywhere. I cook my ground beef to 180 degrees and when I do that any pink inside is dye! Thanks for all your videos and I'll keep watching them! Take care!
One time saving trick I use, is to go ahead and peel a couple of onions and cut off most of the root end. I then rinse them off, put them in a paper towel in a Ziploc bag. They keep for a week or 2 in the refrigerator. That way I have part of the work done when cooking. I also do this with celery and carrots. Peel and trim ends of carrots, then wash, then wash and trim celery, and put in bag with a paper towel. Broccoli and cauliflower work well, but have a shorter storage time. So, my prep time is done for a couple of weeks. When ready to use, just pull out of refrigerator and cut into desired sizes.
Love your recipe. Somewhat the same from what mama taught me. Meat, egg, oats, dry onion mix, water, pepper and bread crumbs. The oats will soak up the soup mix and is moist. Form, brown off and usually (until now, haha) 13 × 9 baking dish and top with homemade brown gravy. Yummmy, I know what is for supper on Monday. HA and it is freezable! Make ahead, thaw (?) and bake or slow cook or IP, hmmm! To this day gotta be mashed potatoes and corn with butter. And yes in the corner of my l.room is a cart witb 4 t.v. tables. Thanks guys love, HUGS & Blessings!
ha ha ha You mean TV trays? LOL We had them when I was little, but only used them every once in a great while. Salisbury steak is one of the frozen dinners I like so I might try this recipe out. Tip: Get the Lipton Onion Soup Mix in order to avoid a canned soup. It is what I use in my hamburgers, meatloaf, etc. that I want the onion soup flavor. Even my stew gets some. I never mix the soup per the instructions either. It goes in dry just as is and whatever moisture is added to the dish is plenty. Takes up a whole lot less room on the shelf also.
I have been using plastic grinder for at least 15 years and it's still going strong. The actual grinding screw and plates are metal so it's just the housing that is plastic
The slow motion intro to The Taste was the best thing I've seen all day. We still have a full set of those folding TV trays. Of course ours are full hardwood that I made myself with a walnut top.
I'd go with a dedicated grinder. the Kitchenaid one just doesn't cut it...no pun intended. also, if you venture into sausage making, the dedicated grinder/stuffer will not dissapoint...not to mention way easier to fabricate sausage. keep up the great work Flo and Dude!
I like the punch 🤛 intro to The Taste !! I agree with you Dude ...my kids whine about having dinner together at the kitchen table but it feels like it’s the only time we talk as a family. Flo you have tasteful, simple IP meals and thank you so much for sharing.
I remember the TV dinners and still eat them sometimes. The salisbury steak you all have looks great and I hope you all also had mashed potatoes with it and cornbread, and maybe some sweet peas. That is one dish I have to try cooking in my Instant Pot. Right now I am cooking some babyback ribs in my Instant Pot and will broil them in the oven for about 5 minutes to brown the ribs and then trying them out.
Me, too! I went to Costco and bought a lifetime supply of disposable gloves for that reason. I'm usually very conscience of my plastic usage, but in the case of handling meat, I make an exception!
I prefer stainless steel meat grinders. Plastic absorbs flavors and fats whereas stainless is easier to clean (even sterilize!!) and tends to last longer. I ate my first TV dinner in 1974, a year after college graduation. I was born in 1951 and we never had TV dinners. My mom did all the cooking until I was 14, then I took over, for better or worse. I loved Salisbury Steak as a kid and still do, in fact it's about time I made some since the weather has turned colder. I love your recipes and videos and can wait for the new cookbook to come out in paper (the better for "note" scribbling).
Salisbury steak TV dinner’s have always been a favorite! I’m glad to have a recipe for my 3qt or 6q IP’s.And OMG hose awful instant potatoes that cane with.
I will make this one in maybe a week or so! I have a couple of others to make first but I've loved the taste of Salisbury Steak and gravy forever! I've always used the leanest ground beef I can get, and that is 93/7. Should work fine for this! Thanks for the great videos! I also like the taste! It wouldn't be your video without it! Best wishes to all! Take care!
I gasped for breath when I saw the TV trays recalling my giant Dad somehow collapsing and bending his tray so often when cutting his food or trying to fit his long legs under what looked like children's furniture on him. And yet good old M and D kept this up once a week for years I think trying to prove we were a nuclear family of that era. But back to the food. This looks wonderful. I had no idea pressure cooked hamburger could look so tantalizing.
Hi Flo,, I love Salsberry steak. The answer to your question regarding the metal meat grinder for the KitchenAid mixer is yes. I found it on Amazon. It’s around 6869 $70.00
I always thought Salisbury steak did not have bread crumbs and meatloaf did have them. Either way-gravy makes both great in my opinion. When I have made Salisbury steak in the past I used a tad of red wine in the gravy, just to make it a little richer. Love you’re using the instant pot this this! Can’t wait to try this weekend!
This was great and of course the intro to 'The Taste' was awesome. I actually looked on Amazon to see if someone sells reproductions of the aluminum tv dinner trays but sadly...all I found was plastic. It would be fun to make an authentic feeling copycat of those old dinners. Hubby still loves Hungry Man brand Salisbury steak dinners and I get that for a treat for him every so often. I actually have homemade Salisbury steak on the menu plan for this week, this was great timing! Thank you Flo and Dude!
I have both the metal and plastic grinders. The metal does a better job but a pain to clean. If you are planning on using it regularly, I would recommend the metal. It is more solid.
A food processor works pretty good for "grinding" meat .. I chunk a roast (or whatever is on sale) and just pulse a few times until it is hamburger consistency .. it doesn't take long .. but you can't just turn it on and walk away or you end up with sirloin puree :0)
This looks delicious! It's on the menu this week! I can't wait to get back in the kitchen. We just returned from a 12 day cruise, so every meal was a restaurant meal for 2-1/2 weeks. While it was wonderful, I'm ready for homemade meals!!! BTW, the Kitchenaid meat grinder is a work horse! Very durable!
Absolutely remember aluminum TV dinners cooked in the oven in the early 80s still ... in my footsie pajamas watching The Muppet Show. Just needs that apple goo and peas and carrots. :)
Just wondering if you roast potatoes in your instant pot? I think you could have put the potatoes some small ones on top of the salisbury steak and cooked it for the 10 minutes possibly 15 and had them finish at the same time. I really enjoy potatoes done in the instant pot and it's possible you could mash them or just serve them with the gravy on top depending on how big they are to begin with.
This is my favorite TV dinner! You made it look delicious! Dude never fails to make me laugh with his stories! Thanks for another great recipe! Oh BTW I just bought the Kindle version of your latest cookbook! ❤️
Never enough mushrooms. Does your cookbook share some of your childhood favourites? My meat grinder is plastic & it works just fine. I've had it for yrs & I love it..
I LOVED Salisbury steak tv dinners! I loved tv dinners period..it was like going out to eat to me; a special treat. How in the world did you get that to come to pressure w/ only a 1/4 cup of broth plus whatever was left of the thick onion soup and with ketchup on top of that? I'm shocked it didn't burn. I'll definitely try this out!
amazon DOES have the metal kitchenaid grinder, you will use it enough go with your gut like myself and get the metal version! Works awesome and will last a lifetime.
I would not buy a plastic body for meat grinder, simply because sometimes there are small pieces of bone or cartilage that can mess up the plastic. Plus metal parts always last longer. My two cents ;) Hope it helps. Love your recipes! Keep them coming
Hi Flo, I’ve been using the chef’s choice food grinder for years and it works well! It may look plastic on picture but it’s actually metal with enamel coating - Chef'sChoice 796 Premium Food Grinder Attachment Designed to fit KitchenAid Stand Mixers, Silver
They look deeeeelicious, apart from one thing, egg in savoury dishes tastes disgusting, I never knew why, until some years ago a TV chef mentioned that, if you don't like the flavour of eggs in meat dishes, it's the albumen, so use two yolks instead of one egg...I'm thrilled to say that it works!! 😂
Hello Flo & Dude, Salisbury Steak is another one of my favorite meals, yours definitely looks better than a TV dinner, 😂😂😂 Dude, your entrance to do The Taste was epic, thank Y'all for sharing, have a wonderful week ahead, take care and God bless you and your Family always. 🇺🇸🇨🇦🍽👼🏻👼🏻
tried this today...going to have to work on my "making a patty" skills (pretty much fell apart in the pot...on the other hand my wife suggested thinking of them as kind of thick sloppy joe's and that made it a little less painful.) Still, it did taste great!
Alright, now I'm craving salisbury steak and watching youtube vids trying to decide whether to go buy an onion, some onion soup, some ground meat, some herbs, a hot pot, some mushrooms, and spend the time cooking it myself............NNNAAAAAWWWWWW! Frozen food section here I come.
If your family could afford a microwave back when they had the tin tray tv dinners. You always had to make sure you checked the box to get the correct one since they had a few available for microwaves. It was a rare thing if I ever ate one of those but I did the same as Dude and mix the vegetable and odd potatoes in the gravy. My family was on a tight budget back then so we cooked at home 99% of the time.
Ok, we had the tv, with the stunningly vast array of channels..............FOUR...............and we had the tv trays, and the melamine plates, and the paper towel napkins................AND THE SALISBURY STEAK TV DINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I must confess to liking the mashed potatoes!!🤪🤫😂
I travel a lot and have to eat out during my jobs. I can eat about anywhere I want to. But you get so tired of eating out. There are times when I want to just come home and have some butter beans and rice. Of course, when I get home from eating out all week, the family wants to go out to eat. :-)
I have the plastic one also. It is fine you just dont want to like 10lb of meat straight. it warms up a little too much which is bad for sausage and things with lots of fat
Totally not TV Dinner quality Salisbury Steak here. So many frozen meal memories. Happy Sunday!
Flo Lum it’s good as long as it’s homemade. Btw, in my dictionary, they all called patties...🍔😂
This was excellent! I even "converted" a friend at work who insisted she hated salisbury steak, then she tried your recipe I brought in for lunch and said she changed her mind. It was delicious!
13:45 TV Trays! I loved those things. Watching The Dukes of Hazard during dinner is one of my best memories as a kid.
Not nearly as young as you thought 🙂 Totally remember the "dessert" compartment. I often forgot to roll it back lol
Thanks, all you TheTaste-ers! I'll keep bringing the 🔥
DudeLum it just makes a nice finale. I really enjoy your commentary to add to Flo’s recipe
I've had the Kitchen Aid grinder for about 10 years. It's heavy duty and works like a champ.
I loved mixing the veggies together with the steak! I remember them so well from the 60s!!!
Thanks for the retro memories of TV dinners. Your version of Salisbury steak looks delicious 😋
We have the plastic one and we use it to make our own lard so we are pretty tough on it and have not had any issues.
My kids (and likely my husband and I) have the flu this Christmas so a big Christmas dinner is not on the menu. So I made this tonight because I had the ingredients on hand and it was fantastic!
Thanks to you both and Merry Christmas!
Hope everyone feels better soon! 🎄❤️
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Most EPIC Dude Intro ever! That was Gold. I love you guys LOL
The taste. Enjoy. Weekend meal for sure..
Hi Flo, thank you to both you and Dude for all the great videos. I have the Kitchen Aid meat grinder attachment for my mixer, and I love it. We often make grind both beef and bacon together to make homemade burger. Hope that helps. Continue the great work!

Another great recipe !
I haven’t had this in decades! Looks good!!!
Looks delicious!!! 😋 Dude his entrance to "The Taste" was hilarious 😂 😂
Yay for TV trays! Love you two.
I have made this one and it's good! I only wish I'd smooshed my patties down more because when the cooked they swelled up but still cooked all the way through! Oh yea!!! Love “The Taste”! This looks fantastic!
Gonna make me some!❤️💙

I love your videos! I dont use “soup” either except for meatloaf I use Campbells Golden Mushroom and its delicious!
The slow motion intro to The Taste was the best thing I've seen all day.
We still have a full set of those folding TV trays. Of course ours are full hardwood that I made myself with a walnut top.
How did you know I had a craving for Salisbury steak lately? This and a side of mashed potatoes... Oooo... Can't wait! Thanks Flo!
"Dude"... that was the best Dude taste entrance ever
Great recipe and way to prepare a nice supper meal! Love your channel
I have the plastic grinder. I use it to grind chicken breast. It works great!!
I like the punch 🤛 intro to The Taste !!
I agree with you Dude ...my kids whine about having dinner together at the kitchen table but it feels like it’s the only time we talk as a family.
Flo you have tasteful, simple IP meals and thank you so much for sharing.
Looks amazing!
I use the dough hook on my kitchenaid to mix that stuff. Total game changer...I hate sticking my hands in that mess!
Me, too! I went to Costco and bought a lifetime supply of disposable gloves for that reason. I'm usually very conscience of my plastic usage, but in the case of handling meat, I make an exception!
Omg! Don’t remember when was the last time I had a Salisbury Steak TV dinner thanks Flo for the recipe I’m going to make it tomorrow😋😋
I tried it, worked out very well, enjoyed the taste. I needed more sauce though. Yumm-yummy
I love your recipes and videos and can wait for the new cookbook to come out in paper (the better for "note" scribbling).
I have a KitchenAide and I also have the grinder. It works awesome?
This video made my day! We ate Salisbury steaks a lot as a kid!
Salisbury steak TV dinner’s have always been a favorite! I’m glad to have a recipe for my 3qt or 6q IP’s.And OMG hose awful instant potatoes that cane with.
Thank you for this recipe!
We have the Kindle version of your new cookbook. The only time we had TV dinners growing up was when my parents went out, which was rare.
I’ve got the Kitchenaid grinder, and love it! Works like a champ, even bought the sausage extruder.
Appreciate the input!
Jeff do you have the plastic or metal grinder?
I will make this one in maybe a week or so! I have a couple of others to make first but I've loved the taste of Salisbury Steak and gravy forever! I've always used the leanest ground beef I can get, and that is 93/7. Should work fine for this! Thanks for the great videos! I also like the taste! It wouldn't be your video without it! Best wishes to all! Take care!
Salisbury steak is still my favorite tv dinner!
The taste is a must! And the more over the top dramatic the better.
Is that a challenge?!
DudeLum only if you’re man enough to accept it!
Looks easy and delicious even for someone like me who's disabled. Thank you so much.
Since I can't smell or taste the food; the thing I look the most forward to is "The Taste"
Love your videos!!!
I'm going to try this in my over,I used to eat thoses all the time when I was young ,but we had to sit at the table also 😇
Hi Flo,, I love Salsberry steak. The answer to your question regarding the metal meat grinder for the KitchenAid mixer is yes. I found it on Amazon. It’s around 6869 $70.00
Bought your new cookbook it is wonderful. Thanks
I always thought Salisbury steak did not have bread crumbs and meatloaf did have them. Either way-gravy makes both great in my opinion.
When I have made Salisbury steak in the past I used a tad of red wine in the gravy, just to make it a little richer.

I have both the metal and plastic grinders. The metal does a better job but a pain to clean. If you are planning on using it regularly, I would recommend the metal. It is more solid.
My boyfriend bought the metal grinder for the KitchenAid. He loves it. We make our own ground beef and bratwurst
Also, this video is just now showing up for me 🤔
A food processor works pretty good for "grinding" meat .. I chunk a roast (or whatever is on sale) and just pulse a few times until it is hamburger consistency .. it doesn't take long .. but you can't just turn it on and walk away or you end up with sirloin puree :0)
Try Knorr Onion soup mix. Amazing!
Love the idea of the onion soup in the patties. I don’t like regular onion in the meat for some reason.
Wow! 2 1/2 weeks! Hope you had a lovely time!
Flo Lum , we did! We cruised Panama Canal.
Absolutely remember aluminum TV dinners cooked in the oven in the early 80s still ... in my footsie pajamas watching The Muppet Show. Just needs that apple goo and peas and carrots. :)
This looks delicious! It's definitely going to be on the menu this weekend. Did I hear Dude say "y'all"? Is he from Texas? Love your videos!
I would love to see you doing recipes using the Ninja Foodi Smart Lid with Thermometer.
I was just talking about Salisbury steak with my bf the other day and wishing I knew how to make it! You read our minds Flo! THE TASTE!!! 👊🏻🤜🏻💜😋
Grew up with those TV trays, ours had an image of a fall forest.
This is my favorite TV dinner! You made it look delicious! Dude never fails to make me laugh with his stories! Thanks for another great recipe! Oh BTW I just bought the Kindle version of your latest cookbook! ❤️
I have ground venison from at least 10 deer with the Kitchen Aid plastic attachment.
Taste rocks!
Wow looks so delicious. Thank you 😃
good job , great recipe
Never enough mushrooms. Does your cookbook share some of your childhood favourites? My meat grinder is plastic & it works just fine. I've had it for yrs & I love it..
There are some in both cookbooks but Elevated has more.
But the metal meat grinder! Every home should have one 😇👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I’m going to try this recipe this week! 😋😋😋🤤🤤🤤👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Japanese style panko written in Hangul (Korean)! Cool! 😇😇😇👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Liked the front punches, but ‘Dude’, the steaks were way much better. You two are great.
when I used to eat the Salisbury steak TV dinners it was way too salty. I like Flo's recipe.
Was that a quick release or natural release? Can't wait to make this!

The taste is back
tried this today...going to have to work on my "making a patty" skills (pretty much fell apart in the pot...on the other hand my wife suggested thinking of them as kind of thick sloppy joe's and that made it a little less painful.) Still, it did taste great!
had some of the left overs today over some lentils (also made in my instant pot!) and it was even BETTER! :)

Oddly I find if I mix the egg and breadcrumbs together it helps greatly with not over mixing once added to the meat. Though that’s with meatloaf lol

I have the plastic one also. It is fine you just dont want to like 10lb of meat straight. it warms up a little too much which is bad for sausage and things with lots of fat
Thanks for the insight!
The taste I want also taste it
