So here it is! My final review of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium! A big phone with a really great camera. Also, for those curious about the 4K display. It only activates when you're watching 4K content or content that it can upscale. Browsing the phone or reading webpages is still at Full HD+ similar to the XZ2. Gta 4 For them, people sould only go with Samsung, Apple and Google. And sometimes Huawei. They just don't realise that some other brands like Sony amd LG are doing things that no other brand is doing. Like wide angle camera and boombox on LGs and Ulta Fast and smooth Sony UI vs Samsung experience UI/ 4k screen etc.
SHORT, CREDIBLE, CONCISE, SMART, STRAIGHT-FORWARD. A reviewer that doesn't need 10 mins or up just to drag XPERIA phones DOWN. All you need is a short amount of time to pour out your honesty and highlight the down sides and the good sides of the phone. IDOL! Keep making QUALITY CONTENT.

Most Asian reviewers are putting it on top of the crop actually.
Some european and merican also, but most merican are biasly trashing it, as usual...them dont even care about performance, camera or tech, just biasly trash, out of simple brand preference.
Asian reviewers seem to respect and give credit to tech innovation more, and westerns seem to care about design and trends preference mostly.
It is really irritating, but is as it is...
youdarkraver yeah true I think but the funny thing is when Sony was leading the market by miles in terms of design, materials and IP certification (Sony still is the best at IP certification and durability by the way as can be witnessed in tests carried out on this channel ie "Matthew Moniz" and on Jerryrig, just search for the videos on xz2 and you'll know) the people you are hinting at had other preferences then, mostly those that were set by their preferred brands namely Samsung and Apple. However, I feel sad to the extent of wondering what really went wrong with Sony again? If you just take away those design issues, Xperia xz2 premium is simply the most perfect phone out there. The harsh reality though is that it simply isn't and that's not going to go in favour of Sony unfortunately specially with that $1,000/- price tag.
Although I do agree certainly to Matthews design complaints here (I absolutely prefer the old XZ Premium design and headphone jack with some less bezels like on plain XZ2),
but "design issues" are also brand preference...
You ll see...
For ex, Most will complain about this here fp being too low placed, but none will complain about the Note9 one being too high placed. But its the same bad design issue.
Most will complain about this here back design not being practical on flat surfaces, but none so far complained about iphoneX (and all alikes) back protruding camera being unpractical in same manner also.
Most will complain about bezels design here that could be extra screen space instead, but none complain about the notches designs taking a serious part of screen space as well...
Its all about what does some reviewers favourite brand do in design and the other (Sony) doesnt that makes them trash the phone for design.
And we know mericans favourites are Samsung and Apple, so they dont mind their design flaws, but Sonys they do, up to a point where they score trash the phone just for the design preferences.
Asians notice the design flaws too, but take a stance that the phone is so good in tech, those design issues can certainly be overlooked. and dont score trash it for their design preferences.
Never stop covering any Sony device , this is the only channel which talks about Sony devices. Great video!!💥

Another notion which I forgot to add is that if you want to use your phone for VR than the 4k is pretty much perfect for that application.

My favorite phone of this first part of the year.
I'd like to buy it, but I still find my XZ Premium great at everything. This dual camera setup is epic though, even the P20 Pro can't match it (although it's more versatile)!
And maybe the XZ3 will have the new 48MP camera...
Sadly, Snapdragon 845 can't support that kind of camera, the limit is 30 megapixels
Pretty much the only unbiased phone/tech reviewer I've come across. Other reviewers are so biased they don't even bother reviewing the phones a lot of us want. Good work man, keep it coming.
GSMarena was kinda nice to Sony lately. I am a little worried though about This beast, because its the girl that s going to review it, and god, she got tiny hands, and she allready said, its a huge phone, and she can almost not hold it... so maybe women wont like this phone as much. lol.

Now I'm very curious about what they put in Sony Xperia xz3 premium... There are rumors that xz3 premium will have 43mp camera... Holy moly.. Hands down🙌 to this real smartphone company.

About 4k screen. Its usefull if im zooming picture and edit it. I must say this phone is for professional haha.
Man i have the XZ Premium and when i look to other phones their screen look blurry to me. I can notice the sharpness because i got used to its screen.

OpFusion The higher resolution has many benefits. Even 1080p content looks better on the 4K display than using it on a native 1080p display. The same happens with 4K tv's when you use on them 1080p content compared to a 1080p tv. Also the system ui looks clearer too. You have to use this to understand the difference.

Got my current Xperia 28 months ago.
It is better than day 1, battery life is also better.
I am sure I can keep it more 2 or 3 years and battery won't need to be changed.
Even with Snapdragon 810 inside..
Sony sells less because people do not feel need to get new one within 1 year. They know it can last 3 or 4 easily.

Is the FOV of the selfie camera same as XZ Premium or Narrower? Saw some test videos where it was narrower.
GREAT review of the phone. I do have a question. I'm currently using the XA Ultra and thinking of upgrading to either the XZ2 Premium or the XZ3. I found both to be around $650's. Which would be a better choice for camera? It will be my backup camera for travel as I'm using the Sony Alpha a9 for travel. Thank you.
Moniz is the truth, not biased at all. He doesn't buy into the hype of any manufacturers, just solid unbiased insight which is refreshing in an industry where most phones are judged even before they arrive. Support this Man!!!!!!

U forgot to mention if you have a Sony Bluetooth headphone and you are near the phone it automatically unlocks .(you can configure it) , great review!

Who needs a fingerprint sensor and what for? I dont need it so it isnt really a drawback for me. I love my XZ2. The Display, the performance the batterylife everthing is great and these specs were important to me. Oh and i forget that it has no Notch. It was clear for me to buy no smartphone with a notch. I testet it in a media store with the p20 and it looks stupid and anoying, looks like they forced it to stretch the display, for me it looks bad. No Notch in sony devices yes dont make any notch at all sony keep it up you got 1 new happy costumer :).

This is something really incredible as the level of quality of the Xperias in recent years has outpaced all its competitors and is worth paying the price for something so good, professional, efficient and functional!
Who likes toys to use in automatic mode like pushing a cart or talking to a doll will buy other brands!

Matthew Moniz thank you for the lovely review. On the fingerprint I get it but it's ok. In the future, Sony should use the fingerprint under the display which they have from JDI fingerprint in the LCD under the glass and for the wireless, you should say that the phones are should be bundled with the box from the company since they're wireless and prices of the phone are getting higher. Other than that the phone is very good. I totaly forgot to mention this actually there is a difference between 2K and 4K and that's 4K makes it more crisper than the 2K. You don't have to see the pixels but what it shows clearer image and display. If you tried, to the change the XZP to a 4K natively??

I have been using it for a month and I can say that finger print sensor is very easy to use and the size is very comfortable. Screen is amazing, 🔋 is very goid, camera is the greatest of its kind!

Hey Matthew would the 4k display be less likely to get screen burn in? Compared to a QHD?
It's LCD so the chances of burn in are low compared to AMOLED

Matt Do you think DXOMARK gives a better rating to XZ2P than p20pro?
I appreciate the changes on the design and the dual camera but I still love my XZ Premium my only cons of this are the bezels and the plastic sides except the top and bottom. The reasons why I won't get XZ2 Premium are no headphone jack, design needs to be more ergonomic especially the fingerprint sensor placement and the bezels, I know it is not a big thing but I believe Sony can make a phone with a smaller bezels than this like the other companies have done. I'm looking forward for next year for XZ3 Premium or whatever name will be. I believe 4K HDR display on a phone will be a game changer soon, remember when Sony launched Xperia Z the first high-end Android smartphone that is water resistant? Knowing that most of the companies are doing this now especially with their flagship phones. :-)
Matthew Moniz did you notice any heating issue during your usage?
CAn I know about the video recording in xz2 premium. Do it have slow motion video setting. Do it have star capture, timelaps , electronic aperture, light painting, and other camera modes?
How does the camera of the standard XZ2 compare? I might get the XZ2 because you can find refurbished phones for only £320 GBP (around 410 dollars) on ebay.
Great review. I really appreciate your fair and balanced reviews. Also, I like that you don't say a product is good or bad just because of the brand. I use a SONY phone myself (the first XZ Premium) and have used it for thr last year. Personally I am waiting for the SONY XZ 3. It is shaping up like it might be a really good phone.

Matthew is the camera better than the Note 9? I own the Note 9 but I'm not blown away by it's reproduction of images.
First : u need to change the window, transision, and animator duration scale by go to setting - system - developer option FOR FASTER NAVIGATION AND PERFORM. Second : have u try the new software update? It's contain some improvements on camera like bokeh & monochrome mode also contain the august security patch.

I have the XZ2 and its really a good phone, excelent battery performance, excelent speed in everything, good camera, excelent dual front speakers and excelent audio with headphones, and its going to get android 9 soon
