    While a lot of people will say that this shows that a man with confidence and the ability to flirt is always successful with women, please keep in mind it was Mel Gibson at his height of popularity. It would be the same showing someone like Chris Hemsworth today or men from the past like Sean Connery or Clark Gable. Women saw the guy and were already attracted. If just an average guy tried acting like this and used the same lines and techniques, he'd be seen as a creep and possibly be accused of S.A. or harassment.

      For the record, it was a point of the movie that he thought himself a suave ladies' man, but even if he managed to get laid sometimes, most women around actually had a low opinion of him or outright hated his guts, and his macho attitude was ultimately portrayed as a bad thing.
      I will say that with how stereotypical most female characters were it doesn't quite reach a proper feminist conclusion, but its heart and spirit are in the right place, if nothing else

    • @bish0p2004
      @bish0p2004 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      I think you young people are the first generation in history who will never grasp the concept of 'context.'
      In the past, women did things that we used to call, "playing hard to get." They did this even when they liked a guy. They did this because it was seen as bad when women slept around with multiple guys.
      Now that that mindset is dying for the most part in western societies, for better or worse, your idea of "no means yes" is actually harrassment in modern times, is more appropriate since women are way more sexually promiscous and don't hide it anymore (especially since there are more options for birth control).

She wants to be an actress and she is working hard in the coffee shop and a lot farther from her dream and in a lot of stress. People like this want someone to hold on, she really needs someone. That is the reason she was open to him and told him she wants to be an actress. She needs someone to calm her down and wants to escape from her stress. It was when he put a choice in front of her. Do you want me to stop asking you out? The truth was, she didn't. She was enjoying the attention. She didn't want to admit to herself that she enjoyed it, so she didn't know how to respond and it flustered her. So, when she said "stop asking me out" it was a lie and they both knew it. An effort of analysis, but totally flawed. The self-righteousness is strong on this one. Flirting and roles of masculine dominance are not abnormal. Normalization of same-sex relationships, just to name an example, is abnormal. Not cause and effect but a gradual augmentation of evil, to a point where self-righteousness make some people like you judge the past from an ivory tower. The laws are still the same, is just some partial media discourse that attempts to normalize abnormality.

I remember in "payback" with Mel Gibson, I actually liked how some of the cops dwarfed him. It makes the movie seem more genuine when they aren't trying to trick you into thinking people are tall. @@LautaroTessi What I mean is, without realising it, you might be raping someone. It's easier for all parties if "no" can be understood to mean no. Once a "no" is sometimes a maybe or a yes, it can get super messy. Any women who do that are pieces of shit. Stay safe out there.

She doesn't reject his physical contact.
