The husband is an absolute sweetie! So understanding of the obsessiveness that goes with creativity. It's not always easy to live with. She is also a lovely, engaging person and a true artists. I love the deep orange dining room - the hand painted designs are truly beautiful.

People are blind not to appreciate the importance of colour in our lives. Like you ,me and my wife are also very fond of colours. Our daughter calls us "a colourful couple".I also liked the good virtues that you are giving to your daughter. The old sentimental things, the artist within you, things that once you could not afford which you can now are all very common to my feelings. My heart is beating so fast, I have goosebumps and a big grin showing off all the weathering in this 65 year old face. I love color in the same way and my ceramic studio is painted bright green, sunflower yellow, bright fuschia, brilliant purple, orange and the ceiling is blue with the odd cloud.( Clouds are rare here). I just returned from a trip to Mexico and stayed in a villa that was painted purple and orange and yellow and blue and I was at such peace, and I realize that bright color and lots of it are such an important part of my life.. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video of your family and your home. I would definitely want to meet you personally if I didn't live in Santa Monica CA, but perhaps I'll get to one of your workshops sometime.. Heres hoping.

Does anyone here remember Susan Sargent and her books ("New Country Color", "The Comfort of Color" etc.)? She lived in the New England countryside as well, and if she has passed the torch in terms of philosophy and creative style, Ms. Nicholas definitely seems to be the one she has passed it to. We can be grateful. Gotta love anyone who provides a lovely and vibrant alternative to the relentlessly sterile white and grey interiors that have made homes, and home design magazines, such a boring wasteland for the last couple of years.
I love this house and the family, I wish my mom had been more like this lady. I also love how she has painted her walls in the dinning room, I have wanted to paint flowers like that in my hall for the last five years and 3 homes, and I have decided I am going to do it. I almost cried watching this..I am 65. I love LOVE love color. I have had a VERY unusual life and since July of last year when I moved into this apartment, I have NEVER lived on my own. My kids tell me I need to stick with browns and beiges. Finally a kindred soul that hates beiges as bad as I do!! I am gonna start today ( yes, during stay at home Covid-19) looking for 1 colorful thing to put up in MY apartment! Thank you!!!
Totally delightful! This Lady is a true Artist. I started to do something similar when I bought a small 1895 Steelworkers Rowhouse in Pittsburgh, but the House had major Infrastructure issues and I had to abandon the Project.

Kristin......your video was passed down to me just a few mins ago...I am a crafter and I paint signs for inside the home plus I am a quilter. This story, YOUR HOME that you and your lovely family have built together has what I see....a HUGE HUGE HUGE amount of LOVE and WARMTH more than any space heater could give LOL....What a fantastic and artistic outlook on LIFE period. Too often we live inside the BOX and so afraid to wander out of the box once in awhile. You have JUMPED / Ran out of the box LOL...I say it in a FANTASTIC way....I grew up also on a farm and in the Country near Niagara Falls and I would not take any amount of money to trade that life. I would feel so at PEACE living in your wonderful home. or something similar. GOD MADE the colors....why not enjoy the fruits that God has given us. I can go on and on about everything. I enjoyed everything I saw from Start to finish. The calm I felt over the entire video. My wife and I also had a kiln and created ceramic pieces. The best thing in life is hanging on to memories as long as you can...re: dining room table of yours......so what that it does not look brand new....I don't want it to look brand new. I want it to show the path of time it has taken for itself. All of the good get togethers, all of the THANKSGIVING Dinners thru the years around that table. Your table alone would make a SUPER COUNTRY SONG for anyone. Even myself could write it. You have kept LIFE around you and it has EXPLODED into a wonderful world that you and your loving family can call....................HOME!!!. Not alot of folks can really call a home a home. This home reflects the Life you and hubby and daughter have shared......LOVE THIS so much...You have alot to do now Kristen.... Books, tv show....advice column to help and show others how to LIVE outside of their box. Come out, come out...wherever you are LOL.... The wizard of oz right in your own home....LOVELY!!!.
