    great video. Just a thought, it might be nice now the copper is on leaving the clear Deathly Hallows design visible to re-etch the design so it goes cloudy on a copper background. Just personal preference but good job anyway

    • @Betsiemorris
      @Betsiemorris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! It actually is dishwasher safe. You just want to make sure that you allow it to sit on the glass for at least a day or two before popping it in the oven to make it permanent. Otherwise it can flake off. So, just give it a day or two, pop it in the oven and bake it, let it cool completely in the oven and it will be good to go.

    • @Betsiemorris
      @Betsiemorris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not entirely sure what you mean by paste since I did not use any paste in the video. So I am going to assume that your autocorrect is being naught like mine does from time to time and it is suppose to be paint 🙂. No is the short answer. All that would happen if you rub the paint off is the paint will come off of it. Etchall does not make the surface sticky for the paint. It just makes the color show up more vibrant. If you paint over the entire glass the etched area will show through in the color. It will be opaque and the rest will be a bit transparent. I hope that makes sense.

  • @evehilton7524

    • @Betsiemorris
      @Betsiemorris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is actually a very good question! The reason why you add etchall first is because it allows your paint to be opaque and not transparent. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to add color to different shades of substrates before. A white substrate will give you the most vibrant color. That is what the actual does to the glass. Thank you so much for asking that question.🙂

    the etched area is translucent (when it’s not painted) it is not transparent, there’s a difference. clear glass is transparent as light goes through it. etched surfaces let some light through but diffuse some light so it looks cloudy. when all light is blocked from going through it is called opaque. i couldn’t tell if the ink blocked light from passing through the glass but if it does, it’s opaque paint even though it has a shimmer from light bouncing back in many directions.

      Oh no! I’m so sorry! There are a couple things to check. First, make sure your screen is smooth with no wrinkles. Second, lay the color on so that you can still see the outline of the image. You don’t want it so thin I that you can’t see what the image is. You should be able to see the image a little through the paint. Third, don’t let it dry! You want to pull the screen print when the paint is still wet. HTH

    Can you drink from the side of the glass with the etching coloration? I’m just wondering if it’s toxic if my lip touched the coloring area.

    • @Betsiemorris
      @Betsiemorris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question! I always watch and color it low enough as to not have it touch my mouth. I would not want to ingest it just to be on the safe side.

      Etchall only works on glass 🙂

  • @maeve_a
    @maeve_a 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Didn't notice if anyone mentioned this...
    I increase my coverage of the glass way beyond. Just use masking tape and cover that glass all around the vinyl! There's no point risking having a mistake hit that glass for the cost of a little masking tape.
    When I'm doing a large area, or a full circle, I even cover the bottom and some of the inside so that any etching cream on my gloves doesn't accidentally get transferred there as I move it around.

    You really should wear gloves when working with etch all. I had a pinhole in a pair of gloves while rinsing a glass I was working on and it was quit painful for about a week. Even after I washed my hands many times...much better to err on the side of caution.
