    Great info. Most of the used receivers that I have found are DVB-S receivers not worth buying. In Europe some satellites like HotBird 13 East have some DVB-S transponders. A brand new DVB-S2 receiver is cheap, almost anyone can buy it. There are some Pay Satellite TV operators that use old DVB-S receivers in 2021 but those who use them are old subscribers I'm talking about people who subscribed before 2009 and didn't upgrade their receiver and yet they have HBO and Cinemax in SD of course. For HD and 4K you need a DVB-S2 receiver. It's interesting to see that North America uses the same video broadcasting DVB-S2 like Europe considering you use ATSC for Cable and Terrestrial.

    Some older receivers seems to be buggy for updating them

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that and the fact that they only receive DVB channels doesn’t really make it worth it for the most part.

    But two questions pop up. Which models have red-white-yellow RCA plugs on back, and which run off 12 volts.(?) Caution: Some only have the stupid HDMI cord.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of these have RCA outputs. The only exception is the GTMedia which requires an AV out cable (headphone plug to RCA audio/video). The Amikos and GTMedia have external 12V power supply units whereas the Koqit has an integrated 120V power cord (internal power supply is probably 12V).

    I tried looking on Amazon, but I can’t find any receivers on there. I just mainly see a link to another site.

    i asked you before,that do you guys over in america/canada have ccam(conditional access module) type services through which you can unlock the encrypted channels like of dish tv or other DTH services for very less price?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t promote that on my channel. Only free satellite channels that are in the clear.

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem is the North American TV sets don't have satellite tuner built in like our TV sets in Europe, so they have to use the satellite receiver.

    What's your thot on gtmedia v7 s2x HD, h264. Can it be upgraded to h265? I just ordered it online and realized h265 is more latest. Merci

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can't upgrade an H.264 receiver to H.265. It's like wanting to receive OTA Digital TV channels with an CRT TV with no converter box. Or 4K resolution with your Full HD TV. You have to buy the H265 model but I would recommend to buy a 4K model. Very few 1080p channels use H.265 they mostly use the H.264 format. But 4K uses H.265 and HDR.

      Good points here, Nicholas. The V7 is a DVB-S2 receiver. You'll be able to pick up all the channels with it with the right dish and LNB. I have a couple and they work fine to receive all the channels I'd expect to get on a given satellite.

      @@NorthcoasterHobby I recommend the AMIKO MINI 4K UHD S2X. It has 3 advantages. 4K HDR 60 FPS, H.265 video format and the new S2X tuner. You will receive DVB-S and DVB-S2 channels, but DVB-S2X means more channels on one transponder. One of th advantages of DVB-S2X is that you can broadcast more than 3 4K HDR 60fps channels unlike DVB-S2 which broadcasts maximum 2 UHD channels on a single transponder.

    Is it even worth it? I thought of it but I decided to use my existing satellite mount for my Starlink dish.

    Buying the the new satellite receiver is not too hard, it's the satellite dish installation here in the back of my apartment that can be the stop sign, and I only got access to the satellites in the SW direction mostly.

    Can I connect one to a analog tv or will I need a dtv converter?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The older DVB-S receivers usually have an RF out that can be picked up on channel 3 or 4. The newer receivers connect via HDMI or AV.

      I’m not sure where to find updates for these receivers, they’re very old. You’re better off buying to buy a newer DVB-S2 receiver that decodes MPEG4 video and even HEVC.

      Depende. Iba ang presyo sa lahat ng second hand store. Maaaring mula sa $5-25 ang mga ito, ngunit hindi ako magbabayad ng higit sa 5-10 dolyar, at iyon ay kung kasama lamang ang orihinal na remote control.
