    Consistently among the best guitar content on TH-cam. JJ isn't going to hold your hand for hour long lessons or spend ten minutes "This is how you tune your guitar" but he always picks great songs and gives you plenty to work with. Even though I'm mediocre at best I always seem to pick up something from his videos that helps me. Thanks for what you do!

    Some of the strumming Jimmy does on the original song, especially at the end is almost Pinball Wizardy. Amazing song! I think it got left out of Led Zeppelin III cause Jimmy didn’t like the lyrics being about the «street corner girl». Shame tho. Would have fitted in perfectly🤘

      These chords sound dead-on to me as half-step down tuning, to the standard version. Whatever that is, the opening riff always starts with A shape at 2nd (barre A). Makes
      it easier to stretch to play that riff.

      @@jamesjames9275 Love it! :) Late 70's (I was underage) my local pub had a jukebox with 'E4A': 'Immigrant Song b/w 'E4B' Hey Hey What can I do' . I spent many of my youthful 10pence pieces pumping the Jukebox, playing this over and over while honing my pool skills and upping my beer tolerance.
      It was likely the most popular tune on the Juke - a Zep b side!
      I seem to recall 2nd most popular might have been Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle .
      Happy days, thanks for reminding me. Off to (re)learn this classic now.

    I took a first stab at this song tonight, I found with my 12-string down a half-step, as I usually have it by default, it sounds pretty spot-on to the standard version. It didn't sound dissonant
    or off-key, to my ears. Which is a good thing, since I figured I'd get frustrated if it didn't match. I have terrible trouble, due to small fingers, stretching to play riffs sometimes, but luckily this one is only going from 2nd-3rd fret or so. Nick Drake I'm not. But I did ok. It definitely sounded like Pagey. At least my version.

    I believe Jimmy is not playing a C#m in the four-chord walk down before the choruses. Rather, he plays an E in the same position (fourth fret) as a C#m. It’s like an open-C shape barre chord, just on the first 4 strings. His pinky stays off the third string in the live performance you cite. Cheers

    Isn’t it tuned to Eb?

  • @AllenGarberGuitarFun
    @AllenGarberGuitarFun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s interesting to debate whether they tuned down or slowed the tape. I believe they tuned down because the tuning was slightly more haphazard before Jimmy got the Conn strobe tuner. Even on the records, it’s still a little off the cuff tuning wise. For instance, if you listen to the multi-tracks of “Ramble On” you can actually hear Page tune the electric guitar on the fly to the acoustic rhythm track that he is about to overdub onto.. incredible! I think he got the Conn in later ‘70 or in ‘71...before that, they would just tune to Robert’s harmonica or Jonesy’s organ (John Paul Jones’s organ-what about that, come on!) for the live shows. Just a thought...can’t prove anything, but this is my train of thought for why I think they actually tuned to whatever for the original recording.
