Volkswagen took a long time bringing their Touran mini-MPV to market but when it arrived it was received as a job well done. Available in either five or seven-seat guises, the car was as well engineered as you'd expect from Volkswagen and was powered by a wide range of competent engines. If lacking a little in styling flair, the Touran certainly couldn't be accused of skimping on space and versatility. It's still probably the most competently screwed together and solid feeling of any mini-MPV and scores high on the sensible scale. Used examples are now starting to appear and they make a sound bet for the longer term buyer.

This is great car. I own a 2007 1.4 tsi manual and a 2011 1.6 tdi dsg7. I would recommend to avoid the 1.4 tsi twincharger due to timing chain stretch (replaced mine at 70.000km/140.000km/180000km/200000km) You should always use the handbrake when parking! Other common problems are rust on the fenders, doorhandles and tailgate. The brake calipers will quite often rust. So this is something that you save alot of money if you learn how to service the calipers/brakes. The rear wheel bearings also seems to break/ this also gives an ABS warning light. The 1.6 tdi has had some problems with fuel injectors (750€/piece new or 300€ used). The DSG7 should have its oil changed.
had the 2007 model 2.0 tdi from new 160,000 miles, has been a brilliant car, would buy a new one again.
