      I totally agree. Unfortunately most kids are not taught proper dental hygiene at home or even have access to regular dental checkups. Teaching proper brushing and flossing techniques in school, in phys ed class for example would save so many people much grief later in life. The kids would grow to be healthier so it’s a win/win!

    • @TeethTalk

      we generally recommend to use a clean area of the floss strand for in-between each new tooth you're flossing. so you can slide your fingers over to use each new part of the floss. I actually have a video that gives tips on how to properly hold the floss. Hope this helps: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/how-to-hold-dental-floss-properly?rq=floss

    What’s the maximum time gap that should be allowed between a meal and flossing, before the bacteria from the food stuck actually starts it’s decay action on the tooth? If we really have to floss that way, then why do we need brushing then? How can it take 30 seconds to floss 32 teeth?

  • @jorgenalley3716
    @jorgenalley3716 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dentist out there when I go to floss my teeth I first go all the way down to my gums touching them. I make sure the floss does not slap or slam on my gums.
    My question is will this cause gum recession if I floss my teeth starting by touching my gums then going up and down around the tooth with a c shape?
    For as long as I'm gentle is it okay and if not where do you stop at to make sure you get the bacteria and also prevent receding gums?

    The math in this is that flossing cleans the proximal surfaces of teeth (40% of the tooth as stated; 20% for mesial and 20% for distal) the other 60% is taken up by the occlusal, lingual and buccal surfaces. So each tooth surface takes up 20% and since there are 5 surfaces it equates to 100% when considering all surfaces : Lingual,Buccal,Mesial,Distal,Occlusal . Smart Teeth Talk Girl

    • @TeethTalk

      Hey! As I said, I feel any type of flossing (as long as you're doing it properly) will benefit your mouth. However, it is generally easier to do "proper flossing techniques" with string floss. Hope this helps!

    I never thought to floss the back side of the last tooth since I think I get it with my electric brush but what the heck it couldn't hurt . I recently got tooth pulled and so left plenty of space to brush it now only have a couple teeth past canine . I had several teeth lost ( mostly wisdom back teeth )and deep cleaning and a couple fillings due to years of neglect . No dental exams , brushing once a day , flossing occasionally led to this . Oh well . Now totally into keeping appointments and flossing , brushing after almost every meal . Should we do it three times a day then ?

      My advice would be to schedule an appointment at a dental office. Sending positive vibes your way!

    My gums on my lower bottom side are inflammed. I went to the dentist and they did an x Ray. They are going to do a deep cleaning. Ugh the plain is annoying.

    Why do people use the same spot they used between other teeth between others.. shouldn't we be wiping it off each time or running it under water each time?
