A sad but interesting sight. Never seen a ray on the shore dead or alive before so I still would've loved to see them. Great video!

Thank you! I’ve never seen that many, of all different sizes too. Wouldn’t surprise me if some of the minimum landing sizes were ignored. Shame really!

Sad to see those rays winged by a commercial fishing vessel. Never in my life have I see a razorfish shell carrying shells like that. Good stuff.

It’s awful! Seems like such a waste of the rest of the ray. I’m all for fishing if the whole fish is used, this just seems illogical

@@NatureScopeYT the bit they leave is all spine and head so it’s not really any different to filleting a cod or a bass, except that rays are much slower growing so less sustainable. More importantly, they have smiley faces

The rays are discards from the fishing industry. You can tell by the way that only the side fins are missing. The 'wings' are the only part that is eaten so they cut those off and sling the rest of the body into the sea. You see them sold as Skate Wings but they're really a mix of rays. Not a very sustainable industry sadly.

Confirmed my theory thank you! It’s a shame. If you’re going to take the wings at least use the whole animal for chum or something, such a waste.
