I think the new Ford Explorer sport and Platinum looks ten times better and interior looks better too than the competition. I own the 2016 Sport and could not be happier with the way it rides the power and torque of the twin turbos and the overall finish of of the vehicle. Little over priced but I love it. The 4X4 system is sweet! Love my sport and wouldn't trade it for anything in the same class

@AutoAcademics I have watched a few reviews on the 2017 Explorer Platinum and your review is the only one that showed that the second row seats fold down to have increased cargo space 2:45. I appreciate you showing the specs on the video too. You covered all the important points in this review in under ten minutes. Thumbs Way Up!!!

@@hunterthefisher5145 agreed, when you offer just cash dealers won’t jump to that idea enthusiastically. typically dealers prefer financing a car purchase because they can also report more interest income, as opposed to paying in cash where there is no interest rates involved. Nowadays, most car loans have a prepayment clause that does not penalize you for paying off the loan early or refinancing with another lender.

I feel like I'm driving a standard and I popped the clutch too fast, and it seems to skips going uphill around 55-58 mph. Any suggestions on what to do about these issues? Thank you

The new Sport model is the best out of all models in my opinion. The ride isn't choppy at all, the wheels look like something off a Mercedes-Benz and the vehicle itself is very quiet and comfortable. It is worth noting that this generation is also noticeably wider and longer when compared to the older body-on-frame models. Handling is very good although the turning radius could be better.

  • @olehkobyleckyj8418
    @olehkobyleckyj8418 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the review.
I checked out and test drove most of the comparables (American, all Japanese and Korean ) as well as Mercedes, Volkswagen .... didn't like the Japanese ones, the Korean ones offered lots of value but just weren't for me....didn't even test the chrysler/dodge...not impressed by their offerings....loved the top of line VW toureg and Mercedes but too pricey... didn't test Audi or BMW, Porsche....pricey.
Have been driving GM for last 15 years or so... have had Japanese cars in the past.
In any case, after a long search decided on a 2017 Ford Explorer and loaded it all the way and opted for the naturally aspirated 3.5L v6 over ecoboost.... planning on keeping for very long time so wanted it to be a simple tried and true engine that won't cost me a fortune down the road.
Have had it for 3 months now and it has 3000 Kms on it.
Opted for the captain chairs in the 2nd row with console, leather, Pano, all technology, 20" wheels.....basically everything except the DVD screens in the headrests.... didn't need those.
I've been thrilled with my choice since before I put in my order in December 2016 till when I received it in march 2017 and 3 months later I could not be happier.
Love the look. Love the interior, love the technology. Have not had a single issue with it.... the fit and finish are great, no squeaks, no unusual noises... rides great, very comfortable and plenty of power.
We also recently acquired a 2014 Ford Escape with a 2.0 L ecoboost and based on that, I imagine that the ecoboost on the explorer would have been really powerful, but happy with my choice.
Haven't really had the opportunity to take a long drive in it... so far only 2 hour trip... but really enjoyed it... can't wait for a longer trip.
As you can tell... really love it and would recommend to anyone.
Oh yes, I believe Ford was the only American automotive manufacturer that didn't need any US governments financial aid packages a few years back and that really stuck with me.
For those considering one....I would say go for it.... great vehicle.

I am in the market for a new SUV. I live in Colorado - so I need a vehicle that can actually perform off road. I like the Explorer, but it doesn't have enough ground clearance, and the front and back end make its approach and departure angles horrible. The only two vehicles in my price range that actually have the capability I need are the Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 4Runner styling is goofy, it doesn't have any luxury or tech features, and it doesn't have a V-8, so the Grand Cherokee is looking like the best option.

Not worth it. the sheer blanket panels of plastic and injection mold are un-acceptable. That "leather" on the doors / dash is Pleather / Injection mold after stitched. Then couple that with a jittery ride and sub-par reliability. With Options like the new Acadia Denali or Mazda CX9 on the market which both offer better reliability ratings, better build quality, better material quality, and more features. this is simply over priced and not worth it.

    • @AutoAcademics

May we disagree? The 2017 Explorer is definitely a legitimate choice among the Acadia and CX9. It's the premium brands that would challenge this model.
