Absolutely agree. The Dawn of Everything is a great book about the possible systems of human governance and how, anthropologically, we arrived at where we are. We can and should choose something different.

@gracie1901 It's had the opposite effect on me. Basically, humanity has ebbed & flowed through various means of being. It is only in this stretch of time where we've become "stuck" in this broken system. Aka - things aren't supposed to be the way they are and better ways are possible.
It's long, but great. I read it twice 😎

It’s also because America is a country of extremes. Australia is similar in a lot of ways but there are some important safety nets. Most of Europe also runs on a capitalist system but does not have the idea that it should be absolute so also puts in basic public services and balances it with other things. It is why school teachers in Finland are really well paid and highly trained. It’s recognised that it is worth spending the tax dollars on this.

    • @cherstuff20

Another example to go with @Krevvs is how we adults ask children "what they want to be" as how "how will you participate in capital" as opposed to helping them learn their own interest/community awareness and building.
Or how a lot of us were taught to judge others based on how they participated in capital (well paid means you are more important, but never mind our actual educators and most medical staff are underpaid).

Honestly, capitalism didn’t. The country was built on free slave labor, blood money and murder. It has funded its global police force by gutting its middle class and removing regulations on the wealthy. It’s basically a Plutocracy in disguise and it’s rlly sad how many people have been duped into thinking they’re free individuals when they’re really just working their lives away to give all they have to some wealthy fuck in an office like serf in a serfdom. I think her point here is simply that we’ve been tricked into thinking certain things are normal when they can, in fact, be better.

For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction.
We are here to learn. Each of us. Collectively it is a bad idea to allow ourselves to be governed by laws and actions that impede that process. Number one is. A state that gives me what it thinks I should have. Is a slave state. I own myself. I can live peacefully then. If I am told no. I will react in anarchy. Our country has already gone there. While yall are arguing over capitalism vs other ideal way to govern. The state is absolutly I'm control over you. Wake up.
