- The gorilla attack of a three year old boy had everyone talking about what happened at the Cincinnati Zoo. Now people are debating should we even have zoos. John Linehan of Zoo New England, and Azzedine Downes of the International Fund for Animal Welfare discuss the issue.
Seems like the answer is a transition from zoos to more naturalistic sanctuaries, with the worst zoos being shut down soonest and the best ones perhaps gradually having fewer but bigger exhibits. No need for extremes.
One internally already know this answer. To ask, explain the reason zoo's exist to begin with. I love you all
You can almost FEEL people quickly trying to come up with excuses to justify zoos, can't you? To many people, zoos are as American as apple pie and people don't like letting go of something that's been in their culture for a century or two. It's time, though, for zoos to disappear like dew in the morning sun. Then humankind will take a step up from it's current status as barbaric animal abusers.

Yes we need zoos. They protect endangered species of animals. And this incident is the fault of all party's involved.
That's what they want you to think. Dig further and you will find many cases of animal cruelty, animal starvation causing the animals to resort to cannibalism and eating their own kids.

Absolutely not. Going to a foreign land and stealing a living being, often separating it from family or a herd for our benefit. It's completely stupid. Seems an awful lot similar to slavery. Leave the animals alone.

Merniem 124 ask your self this why are poachers trying to capture these animals and why are they endangered and dying? it all comes back to humans greeed and your right slavery is different but very similar and it’s actually much worst people were brought from a whole different continent to work for nothing until they die these animals are brought in to be treated but they still have to pay a price for it and live the rest of their lives enclosed and putting on a show for humans. If you lot care so much humans would do things differently and it begins with how you really view life
If you want to learn about wild animals, watch Animal Planet. If you want to see a real-life wild animal, go to a well-reputed sanctuary or take an African safari. Humankind doesn't have the right to cruelly incarcerate wild animals IN CAGES AND SMALL ENCLOSURES as if they committed a heinous crime when most wild animals have a strong instinct TO ROAM !

I DISAGREE to have zoos. We should release the animals into the wild. In fact zoos have many advantages and many disadvantages actually zoos have many benefits. Example it is the place that we can go for education. ,we can see many different animals in there. ,animals receive care from specialized trainers in zoos. ,we can protect some of the rarest animals in the world in zoos and we can see exotic animals that we never see before. But don't forget !!!! zoos have disadvantages too. Example zoos can struggle to stay profitable. ,the enclosures at a zoo alter the natural behaviors of the animal it's like zoo changes the behavior of the animal because the behavior of animals will change when they encounter long periods of captivity. ,zoos are often used to exploit people,animals and even communities. ,it changes the lifespan of the animals held in captivity. ,a zoo can be focused on the profits instead of the welfare of the animal, some zoos are unable to care for their animals, zoos are ultimately a business that needs to make money because zoo can do an excellent job and the main point is I don't like to see animals in cage ! so in my opinion I think we should DON'T HAVE ZOOS. All of animals should go everywhere that they want to go like human. They should everything that they want to eat. They should stay in place that they want to live not just in a cage or in a place that you want they to live in!! And they should learn how to adapt to the environment by themself. We shouldn't imprison animals! They should be set free that they want to. And I think safari is the best choice more than zoos because animals can be free more not just in a cage. And people still can travel to watch them. I think it's the best way for us and all of animals in this world !!!! By the way the pros and cons of zoos are often dependent on whatever your view an animal as property or an independent individual.
