- An exclusive survey for Good Morning Britain has found that 65% of UK adults don’t believe zoos should be phased out or banned. 79% also see zoos playing an important role in conserving endangered species. However, Mark Cowne from Free the Wild has argued that zoos should be phased out and banned as animals in captivity suffer from ‘zoochosis’ demonstrating signs of distress that they wouldn’t display in the wild. So should zoos be celebrated as a safe space for the conservation of endangered species, or are zoos unfair to the animals?

In an ideal world - all animals should be free & unharmed… in this real, human world, they are necessary, sadly so.
As a huge wildlife lover, I am really conflicted. Of course wild animals should be out in their natural environments BUT the threat to some of these majestic beasts are extremely real. The numbers are frightening. Do we have wildlife parks to keep the species going or close zoos and let them die off forever. With climate change & the real threat of bloodthirsty hunters, on balance I feel that wildlife parks will have to exist to protect the species, ironically for their safety & preservation and it will simultaneously benefit generations to come. I visit some wonderful facilities that have great conservation schemes. This debate always wrestles with my conscience when I go to see them. I also see the joy that they give to the kids too, without a electronic device in sight. Will these families ever see these animals in the wild? We keep all sorts of animals as pets in cages, they dont get natural freedom. Are we just as bad as some of the wildlife parks. Its a hot debate that will rumble on and on 😢😢
Keep them open and yes it is good for the animals
maybe people need yo acknowledge that if it wasn't for China zoo...the giant panda would be extinct

@panimengropoints9333 with panda they are going endangered because of their breeding. plus they will abandon one offspring if they have twins
They would not have ever been endangered if they had the full scope of natural habitat. A smaller habitat, less of the species, less chance of survival.

I am consciously putting my future family line on the endangered species list so there will be an eco system in the future.
I think safari parks are ok but not zoos.
Zoo's are great for breeding endangered species

They need to be out of cages .. in wild LARGE lands behind tall LEC gates but not in cages !
