  • This week, we take you on the back roads from Mt. Augustus to Tom Price!
    While we had heard, that the road was not in great condition, we wanted to go for the adventure anyways and boy was it worth it. The road was actually really good until the Ashburton shire begins, from there to Ashburton downs was more of a track and after the Ashburton downs Station it was pretty good again.
    The drive was amazing though. Leaving Mt Augustus, the road follows dry river beds through ancient ranges. Once in the Meekatharra shire, the road becomes excellent, like a highway, and the scenery changes a bit as well. The vast plains are dotted with rocky outcrops and smaller ranges. At the right time of day, these begin to glow red and make for a stunning show. Once in the Ashburton shire, you'll know because immediately after the sign the road deteriorates. The road follows the vast floodplain of the Ashburton river. Many tributaries cross the road, although all dry, they make for some interesting and slow going driving. At times the road is reduced to one lane as the vegetation has claimed back the other half of the road.
    Once you get to Ashburton Downs station the greenery will impress you, probably due to irrigation in an otherwise arid landscape. When getting to the Nanutarra-Paraburdoo road, there are about 30km of bitumen before the shortcut to Tom Price, that shaves almost 80km off the journey.
    In Tom Price we stocked up, and decided we were going to tackle the Mt Nameless track and try to get to the top at sunset. We just made it and it was so worth the sometimes a bit hectic track.
    Enjoy the view and we will see you next week for one of our favorite places in WA, Karijini National Park!
    PS: Please do some research before hitting the tracks, since they can change quickly and might get closed again!
    See you next week guys!

    3:10 I laughed more than I should've at that 🤣🤣 Amazing footage of the Mog going over some very steep inclines and declines, although the camera doesn't do justice to it. Cheers guys🤙

    Thhhanks for ddddriving so farrrr to getttt those pppppics! Much appreciated!!!!!! INterested to hear how your interior survived!? Some special night time lapses as well; your experimentation works great - some beauties there. And of course the Drone to top it off - it really helps capturing the distant views but also the absurd angles that you are driving at. Remarkable really. Thanks XX

      Thank you! The interior has held up great so far, the only problems we have had have been human error (forgetting to close drawers till they latch and then finding thr contents strewn about the mog the next time we climb in the back). The crawl through has really helped as we can hear if stuff goes flying in the back.
      This strech of road was special, I feel like every 5 minutes I would tell Jele "film that" or "should we fly the drone?" In the end we have to try and condense that down into 5 or 10 minutes... doesnt do it justice but we try our best. And the top of Mount Nameless was epic!

    Terrific drone shots and brave driving to get back down nameless mountain in the dark. Pity those other guys going up couldn't be bothered to stop and chat. We are/were more social. We saw you guys in the flesh at the lighthouse at Exmouth back in July last year.

      Thank you! Yes I was sweating on the way up... Funny story: on the way to Mount Namless I told Jele "I'm not really feeling doing anything too hectic today" LOL that went well...

    What a great adventure, why didn't you stay on top of the mountain?

      It's not allowed.... sadly would have been an epic spot. There is no camping within 10km of towns, and there is a big sign at the bottom. We do camp on a mountain in the Pilbarra but you'll have to keep watching for that ;)

    Hello, did flies bother you on Uluru? How did you deal with them?

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, they are everywhere in Australia outside of the cities and especially away from the coast. Either you get used to it or you wear a fly net.
