I did the same and two years later i find time to listen to grace. at 55 I never thought I would fangirl so much but her work, lyrics, music, and personality have been a true gift, its been years since someone has crafted such good music. all, i do mean All, of her songs stand on their own. and her covers end up being better than the originals. she has a wealth of color, texture and true earnestness in her delivery unlike anyone ive ever heard. Go and dive in and fill your day with true art and entertainment.
Queen, I see this video was posted 4 months ago. I first came across Grace on TH-cam maybe a month or so before that. Since then I have watched hundreds of hours of Grace. Music videos, performances, interviews, live streams, concerts, reaction videos, including this one half a dozen times. Yours is the best although I have watched the King(mitchikent) and Queen(Petra) of Grace reactions numerous times as well. Grace has become an addiction. As with all addictions there must be something about her that gives me great and consistent pleasure or I wouldn't keep watching. And I am not alone. Grace has varying degrees of appeal to people. Some dislike her. Some like her a little. And, some are in love with her, or at least the TH-cam version of her, as am I. This is where it started, although there is plenty of Grace video on TH-cam that predates her appearance on AGT. She is so genuine and so lovable, such a good singer and songwriter. And as you follow her journey beyond AGT she seldom disappoints. The only disappointment is that new material is coming out so slowly. She is currently filming the first of what I expect will be many movies, and while that is happening occasional live streams are just about all we see, little in the way of new music. OK, I guess I have been rambling for way too long.
No mater how many times I watch this video I still tear up. Watching your reaction made it feel like the first time. Now you want be able to not fall in love with this little angle. She has a heart as big as she is, and she is growing up so fast. Glad you got to react to this beautiful video!
That was perfect; that was exactly my reaction when I saw this clip, and that was the first time I'd ever seen Grace perform. I immediately scoured youtube for every clip featuring Grace that I could find. I honestly believe she is a genius and has the greatest personality in the world. In five years she will dominate the music industry. And films as well. (She's just gotten the role of Stargirl, over 700 other girls despite never having acted before, aside from her music videos)
That's my favorite moment in this video. Her look of disbelief is so genuine. In fact, it's one of my favorite moments in any talent show video. Most people appearing on the Got Talent shows or X factor have been performing for a while and have a feel for how audiences react to them. Grace was different. Being so young, all she had done was to put up some TH-cam videos and appear at a few local open mic nights in front of maybe 15 or 20 people. I don't she fully appreciated how good she was and how she could move an audience until this audition.

As far as I know, Grace was the very first (and might still be the only) act to have gone through the entire competition using ONLY her own original songs. She's a Singer-Songwriter AND plays Ukelele (that's obvious), but her channel also obviously has some covers. Personally, I like her own original stuff better than her covers. She's so unique and sweet and full of HOPE, which is what the entire world needs right now. I love her to pieces! Someone posted a WHOLE BUNCH of links to her songs in the comments, I hope they all work for you. If you react to all of them, at least some of them will get blocked pretty quickly. At least one reactor had a problem with the Windex video, she had to re-upload it with no sound, and it does work that way. The original link for that video in particular is on Grace's TH-cam channel (and I am sure the others will be there as well). Get this ~ she named her channel "Oh Never Mind It's Just Me - Grace VanderWaal". She's always been pretty humble and I wonder if she STILL thinks she's a pretty boring person (her words)... @@allenmasters9145 Actually, they did press her a lot to not use an original for the audition, but finally said OK. Then they pressed her, for her 4th song, to repeat IDKMN. But she pushed back, insisted on singing Clay. And with the vote so close, it's pretty certain a repeat of IDKMN wouldn't have won the show for her. Yup, LOL, and LOL on the world of conventional wisdom, as far as Grace is concerned.

There are a total of 4 songs she sang in competition. The next song was her first "live" Performance. It was the 1/4 finals round. The name of the song is Beautiful Thing. I suggest you watch it next. If you follow them in order, you get to enjoy the story of her rise to fame. I was like you in the beginning, "... not another child singer". I only decided to give her a chance when I heard she writes her own music. Even when I heard this one I suspected it was a fluke. I was completely wrong. IMO the next song is her best one (at least one of her best). I cried during and after each of her performances on AGT. After Beautiful Thing, is a song called Light The Sky. Follow them in order and you won't regret it, I promise. All the songs have a positive message, and have that strong folk vibe. I just want to watch you experience this incredible story. The other prominent 12 year old female composer for voice is pianist and violinist Alma Deutscher who rewrote the story of Cinderella for her 4 act opera also called Cinderella. The love song from the English version this charming masterpiece can be seen on TH-cam as "Alma Deutscher Cinderella (American premier)-Act III". Alma also wrote a version of the same opera in German. A song from the German version performed in Vienna can be seen as "Cinderella's Ballad 'When the day turns into Darkness' from Alma Deutscher's opera Cinderella".
Nice genuine reaction captured on film but repeated by thousands previously in the privacy of their homes, I'm sure. Grace's story and talent seems to have that effect on many people.

Actually, Grace only wrote three songs solo. I don't know my Name, A Better Life and Just a Crush. All other songs that appear on her EP and first studio album have co-writers named.
They are named but honestly, how much did the other writers contribute? The songs on her EP, she had written and performed on her Facebook page before she ever went on AGT, yet somehow there are other names listed. If they contributed their contributions were minimal.
@@jamessmithe5490 , Thank You for pointing that out. Grace does write her own music, but anyone who has followed her knows that she wants to give credit to anyone and everyone who helps her. Even if it's in a relatively small way. Like I think someone suggested the background whispers on gossip girl. I would not consider that co-writing, but Grace might have. I don't think Grace's wanting to give everyone credit should take away from the fact that she came up with the original lyrics, tune, and concept. After all, Grace is so generous that she said the 'BillBoard Rising Star' award should go to all the people who helped her in her career, and not her. And that it truly belonged to those people, her parents, and her fans. She has always vocally pointed out and stated anytime she has covered a song or someone else has done the majority of the writing. And so far none of those covers, (except for "Clearly", by Johnny Nash), has been recorded under a record label. Let's not try to belittle her because she is considerate and generous, please.
I saw Grace in concert 2 days ago (opening for Imagine Dragons). She introduced "I Don't Know My Name" by saying she owes everything to that song. Yes, miracles DO happen.

I don't often watch reality talent competitions like AGT, but, by a stroke of good fortune, I tuned in to this one just before Grace walked out on stage. Like English child composer Alma Deutscher who has written a completely original opera entitled Cinderella, this young American composer is unusually articulate. Watch Alma Deutscher completely surprise reporter Scott Pelley by composing a song for him using four random notes he drew out of a hat on the TH-cam video promoting her opera entitled "Alma Deutscher-60 Minutes Overtime-November 3, 2017".
I have seen countless acceptance speeches and this was the most literate and heartfelt; and she made half the audience cry. I know she's a genius but this certainly confirms it, doesn't it?

Grace Vanderwaal is now a movie star. She recently starred in the Disney Chanel adaptation of a book entitled Stargirl. She wrote some of the music for the movie but TH-cam has her delightful cover of the Beach Boys famous song Be True to your school where she tries a bit of dancing.
I can tell your reaction was the same as Nick Cannon's in that you didn't expect to hear THAT. Grace is an absolutely amazing girl! And did you notice how her older sister, Olivia, was the first one to run out onto the stage when Howie hit the Golden Buzzer? That's some HUGE sisterly love right there!!! QueenoftheNorth and Os Cresson - I would second this recommendation. Beautiful Thing, her quarterfinal performance, is amazing and it is incredible she wrote it herself. Comparing her videos from early 2016 until July 2016, I get the feeling she did not waste any time but worked intensely, because you can see a lot of development in that time. Compare for example her late 2015 performance of Ex's and Ohs, and her terrace performance of it in July '16 - so much more confidence and control. (I think getting the golden buzzer probably gave her a boost of confidence as well).
QueenoftheNorth - by the way, that was a very nice reaction video - very relatable and genuine. I know you said you have a busy schedule, so I'll just put in a plug for one more. If you want a more recent song of Grace's, a lot of people (me among them) list Darkness Keeps Chasing Me as their favorite. Her album version is good, but her live performances are even stronger. The MTV rooftop version or the more recent NPR Tiny Desk performance (second song in the set, at about 3 minutes in) are especially good. Such a blast of emotion, sad, yet uplifting because of how beautiful it is.
Grace is in my eyes a true musical genius. I have loved everyone of her original songs. Do yourself a favor and react to this years newest girl wonder. Courtney Hadwin, age 13, auditioned on AGT two weeks ago and she is amazing. Cal 99ers I totally agree that the auditions are completely composed and repackaged, and can lead the viewers any way they choose. I simply can't think of any other reason he might make that face rather than for that purpose, and I did note that Grace worked extra hard in later rounds to avoid breaking into a smile during the first crowd applause. Sadly, we'll never know for sure.

they say it the comments below. they love her that doesnt mean she is even close to the best singer or act. she won the popularity vote not the most talented vote. she was not even in my top 10 but was close sofor her to make the top 10 was acceptable but she was not the most talented but when you get a cute little girl with a ukelele i guess talent takes a backseat. in my opinion there were at least 6 people more TALENTED than her. she is making some noise right now cause they are really pushing her and they have an investment they want to pay off. the next 5 years will tell if she will have a long career.

As far as I know, Grace was the very first (and might still be the only) act to have gone through the entire competition using ONLY her own original songs. She's a Singer-Songwriter AND plays Ukelele (that's obvious), but her channel also obviously has some covers. Personally, I like her own original stuff better than her covers. She's so unique and sweet and full of HOPE, which is what the entire world needs right now. I love her to pieces! Someone posted a WHOLE BUNCH of links to her songs in the comments, I hope they all work for you. If you react to all of them, at least some of them will get blocked pretty quickly. At least one reactor had a problem with the Windex video, she had to re-upload it with no sound, and it does work that way. The original link for that video in particular is on Grace's TH-cam channel (and I am sure the others will be there as well). Get this ~ she named her channel "Oh Never Mind It's Just Me - Grace VanderWaal". She's always been pretty humble and I wonder if she STILL thinks she's a pretty boring person (her words)... @@allenmasters9145 Actually, they did press her a lot to not use an original for the audition, but finally said OK. Then they pressed her, for her 4th song, to repeat IDKMN. But she pushed back, insisted on singing Clay. And with the vote so close, it's pretty certain a repeat of IDKMN wouldn't have won the show for her. Yup, LOL, and LOL on the world of conventional wisdom, as far as Grace is concerned.

There are a total of 4 songs she sang in competition. The next song was her first "live" Performance. It was the 1/4 finals round. The name of the song is Beautiful Thing. I suggest you watch it next. If you follow them in order, you get to enjoy the story of her rise to fame. I was like you in the beginning, "... not another child singer". I only decided to give her a chance when I heard she writes her own music. Even when I heard this one I suspected it was a fluke. I was completely wrong. IMO the next song is her best one (at least one of her best). I cried during and after each of her performances on AGT. After Beautiful Thing, is a song called Light The Sky. Follow them in order and you won't regret it, I promise. All the songs have a positive message, and have that strong folk vibe. I just want to watch you experience this incredible story. The other prominent 12 year old female composer for voice is pianist and violinist Alma Deutscher who rewrote the story of Cinderella for her 4 act opera also called Cinderella. The love song from the English version this charming masterpiece can be seen on TH-cam as "Alma Deutscher Cinderella (American premier)-Act III". Alma also wrote a version of the same opera in German. A song from the German version performed in Vienna can be seen as "Cinderella's Ballad 'When the day turns into Darkness' from Alma Deutscher's opera Cinderella".
Nice genuine reaction captured on film but repeated by thousands previously in the privacy of their homes, I'm sure. Grace's story and talent seems to have that effect on many people.

Actually, Grace only wrote three songs solo. I don't know my Name, A Better Life and Just a Crush. All other songs that appear on her EP and first studio album have co-writers named.
They do give writing credit for adding a drum track, bass track, etc.
They are named but honestly, how much did the other writers contribute? The songs on her EP, she had written and performed on her Facebook page before she ever went on AGT, yet somehow there are other names listed. If they contributed their contributions were minimal.
@@jamessmithe5490 , Thank You for pointing that out. Grace does write her own music, but anyone who has followed her knows that she wants to give credit to anyone and everyone who helps her. Even if it's in a relatively small way. Like I think someone suggested the background whispers on gossip girl. I would not consider that co-writing, but Grace might have. I don't think Grace's wanting to give everyone credit should take away from the fact that she came up with the original lyrics, tune, and concept. After all, Grace is so generous that she said the 'BillBoard Rising Star' award should go to all the people who helped her in her career, and not her. And that it truly belonged to those people, her parents, and her fans. She has always vocally pointed out and stated anytime she has covered a song or someone else has done the majority of the writing. And so far none of those covers, (except for "Clearly", by Johnny Nash), has been recorded under a record label. Let's not try to belittle her because she is considerate and generous, please.
I saw Grace in concert 2 days ago (opening for Imagine Dragons). She introduced "I Don't Know My Name" by saying she owes everything to that song. Yes, miracles DO happen.

Her talent is nothing short of astonishing. If she keeps it up, she will change popular music in a way similar to Dylan, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Ramones, Nirvana. She's huge, if her creativity doesn't dry up. She's also young - just turned 14.

By the way, the next time you do a Grace reaction video I strongly recommend the Windex commercial(well, it's actually a 3 minute music video) using Grace's song Beautiful Thing. Hah, I'm a latecomer to your reaction video, so there's not much I can add to the previous comments. Great reaction. And, yes, she did go on to win the competition, improving with each performance. I don't often watch reality talent competitions like AGT, but, by a stroke of good fortune, I tuned in to this one just before Grace walked out on stage. Grace Vanderwaal is now a movie star. She recently starred in the Disney Chanel adaptation of a book entitled Stargirl. She wrote some of the music for the movie but TH-cam has her delightful cover of the Beach Boys famous song Be True to your school where she tries a bit of dancing.
I can tell your reaction was the same as Nick Cannon's in that you didn't expect to hear THAT. Grace is an absolutely amazing girl! And did you notice how her older sister, Olivia, was the first one to run out onto the stage when Howie hit the Golden Buzzer? That's some HUGE sisterly love right there!!! QueenoftheNorth and Os Cresson - I would second this recommendation. Beautiful Thing, her quarterfinal performance, is amazing and it is incredible she wrote it herself. Comparing her videos from early 2016 until July 2016, I get the feeling she did not waste any time but worked intensely, because you can see a lot of development in that time. Compare for example her late 2015 performance of Ex's and Ohs, and her terrace performance of it in July '16 - so much more confidence and control. (I think getting the golden buzzer probably gave her a boost of confidence as well).
QueenoftheNorth - by the way, that was a very nice reaction video - very relatable and genuine. I know you said you have a busy schedule, so I'll just put in a plug for one more. If you want a more recent song of Grace's, a lot of people (me among them) list Darkness Keeps Chasing Me as their favorite. Her album version is good, but her live performances are even stronger. The MTV rooftop version or the more recent NPR Tiny Desk performance (second song in the set, at about 3 minutes in) are especially good. Such a blast of emotion, sad, yet uplifting because of how beautiful it is.
Now you have just a very small taste of why her fan's are so defensive of her. Remember, this is Just The Beginning!!

Cal 99ers I totally agree that the auditions are completely composed and repackaged, and can lead the viewers any way they choose. I simply can't think of any other reason he might make that face rather than for that purpose, and I did note that Grace worked extra hard in later rounds to avoid breaking into a smile during the first crowd applause. Sadly, we'll never know for sure.
The way things are going, she might write a book or something. Already her story has enough great content for a movie. So maybe we will know.

they say it the comments below. they love her that doesnt mean she is even close to the best singer or act. she won the popularity vote not the most talented vote. she was not even in my top 10 but was close sofor her to make the top 10 was acceptable but she was not the most talented but when you get a cute little girl with a ukelele i guess talent takes a backseat. in my opinion there were at least 6 people more TALENTED than her. she is making some noise right now cause they are really pushing her and they have an investment they want to pay off. the next 5 years will tell if she will have a long career.
