The NPC's are so much fun, even if they only have MK9 moves that I would have loved as many as they could have put in the story. Nightwolf, Kabal and Stryker could even have been incredibly fun in NPC form in MKX. I guess MKX is generally just a really fun game.
As one of six Stryker fans, it hurts my heart that after mortalkombat11 wrapped up he was the only person who got turned into a revenant that didn't become playable
im still so sad that styker still hasnt made his appearance in mk11, and at all too. i thought maybe he would appear in the aftermath in mk11 but he was barely mentioned. i even made a theory like a year after its release abt stryker, it went sum like this: basically stryker was tossed into the void alongside nightwolf fujin and shang tsung but failed to escape alongside the three and thus is still left in there
I still remember facing Corrupted Shinnok for the first time after playing a lot of MK9, they definitely wanted to make up for the fact that Shao Kahn was slow and very easy to exploit in that game. That meter burned instantaneous, unblockable fire beam is the most broken move in the game.
Kahn was very cheap but exploitable, beat the hard mode ladder as Liu Kang and resorted to projectile spam and jumping over the hammer (because you can't block or duck it). As for Shinnok I used heavy weapons Jax for the hard mode ladder and oh boy. That fucking laser. Took me many tries but I eventually beat him.
NPC characters in the NRS games fascinate me. Since they aren’t playable the developers didn’t have to really worry about how they would be balanced in the long term. So they’re effectively either experimental like in the case of Sindel or Tanya. Or hold overs from previous games with new looks like Rain or Baraka
A weird thing is that Corrupted Shinnok has a fatality and brutalities that you can actually do. It's like if he was originally ment to be played as but was instead kept as a boss character because of how over powered he is.

I was truly upset that Rain was an NPC boss fight. He's my main. It's crazy how out of every MK9 character that was reused from MK9, Rain was the only character who got a new default skin and concept art. Sindel's skin was the one from 9 but undead and so was Baraka's.
You CAN actually use Barakas Chop-Chop Special to extend combos, but it is very difficult. You have to be in the corner and immediately follow up with d3, s4 into chop-chop again. You can loop this around 3 times for 37+ damage.
I remember messing around in training with this mod with Corrupted Shinnok, and god, it was actually awesome how curiously diverse he was. Yeah, he has a lot of broken stuff, like the Chest Beam restand guaranteeing his unblockable DB2, and generally absurd damage - but he felt almost... weirdly complete. Also, I don't think you mentioned it, but his Pounce attack actually has armor even when performed meterless, and his DF1 rekka attack can be performed with 112, but actually also can be performed with 114 with a low sweep at the end, meaning the rekka had a true 50/50.
C-Shinnok was the arcade mode final boss, I think it makes sense they'd put more effort into making him feel like a complete character than the NPCs that only show up as jobbers in the story mode.
When you said you didn't do corrupted shinnok cuz he was a boss character for the competitive history of him since he was unplayable an a boss character, I recall you taking mk9 Shao for a spin an doing infinite upward shoulder charges. Even if it was sorta brief, covering corrupted shinnok would've been a neat little thing since you do make good points about the way the game is an how he is the next level of the game.
Just a slight correction: Tanya's moveset was predominantly a combination of Kitana's and Sonya's with a few of Mileena's normals. She has Sonya's throw animation and 213 string.

Ahhh man, I was so excited to play as these characters when I saw them in story on day 1 then realised the weren't playable!! Also really annoyed me when I saw kabal, striker and smoke in the story cutscenes but didn't unlock when I beat the story, great video!!

Though rightfully so, people voted for the PC version to be fixed because it would have been a mess if they didn't. Rain definitely needs to be base roster and playable in 12. Sindel looked so great in this game.

I know lots of people feel otherwise but I hate the way NR Studios rotates characters in and out of titles as opposed to the "kitchen sink" approach a lot of fighting games use when the roster just stacks and stacks. I think MK: Armageddon snapped NR out of that habit but sometimes it's really annoying. Injustice 1 my favorite fighter was Solomon Grundy. Now he's gone. In MKX my favorite was Ermac, and he's not exactly some rando - he's a massive fan fave and he's gone. In MK9 Smoke wasn't my favorite but he was in my top 5 and like Ermac, I know he's popular I don't want the bloated rosters but sometimes I wish these characters were the ones added in DLC instead of external IP characters like AvP, Robocop, etc. I'm not a horror fan so the period where NR was focused on getting characters like Freddy Kreuger and Jason was really dumb to me
Big rosters grab attention way better then guest characters do. That’s a certified fact of fighting games, though it definitely takes a lot of work to make that happen. That being said, when SNK prioritized having 50 characters in KOF 14 despite working on a small budget and with a slap dashed engine they made because they couldn’t afford the Unreal Engine, NetherRealm honestly has no excuses to not give us a huge roster
Favorite MK games are MK Trilogy and MK9.... the 2 MK games with the biggest rosters! NRS needs to completely stop with guests, especially with the limited roster-mentality.

I'm not sure whether or not I'd like to see more NPC story mode inserts, on the one hand, I'd rather more fully playable characters, on the other, neat and varied single player content like the challenge tower nonsense...
I'm so glad we got mods to look at these characters under a closer lens. I'm still salty that KI never got a playable Shadow Jago mod since his boss version is so different.
Oddly enough, once the Ultimates came out for some of the characters, Boss Shadow Jago's was using regular Jago's "Spirt Bomb" move instead of the slashy finisher. It's happened to me a few times, so it's probably glitched. But I think it means Boss Shago still borrows attributes and assets from regular Jago, opposed to S3 Shago where he has his own moveset.

Y si hay 24 jugables, solo que uno es exclusivo, ademas que por muy villano principal que sea, Shao Khan no era jugable en el 9, Shinnok no era jugable en el 10, ni Cronica en el 11. Es cierto que peleamos contra Quan Chi y Ermac y van a ser jugables recien con el DLC, pero en el 10 peleabamos contra Sindel y Baraka, en el 11 contra Cyrax y Sektor, y ninguno de ellos fue jugable en ningun momento.

Es cierto que peleamos contra Quan Chi y Ermac y van a ser jugables recien con el DLC, pero en el 10 peleabamos contra Sindel y Baraka, en el 11 contra Cyrax y Sektor, y ninguno de ellos fue jugable en ningun momento.
