Mortal Kombat Trilogy was the first fighting game I ever played in my young life & it remains my favorite today. I’ll never forget how cheap it felt being a literal toddler and having my own father relentlessly perform Sheeva’s dragon drop on my poor defenseless cyber ninja. Neither him nor sheeva had a single care encouraging me to “git gud” from the very start. Thanks sheeva & thanks dad
Sheeva's 2nd variation, Deadly Dragon, is about plus frames. She has a special that can be hit confirmed to guarantee a followup a hit/throw mixup off of every touch. It's not a combo variation. Both V1 and V3 hit higher damage combos, so it'd be silly for V2 to be a combo variation.
@@PNDKM It is! I only know because I specifically play the least played variations of characters. No blame towards you at all, just simply offering a correction.
ehh, I'd have to disagree, v2 is definitely the one you pick for combos. A combo variation doesn't necessarily have to be higher damage. v1 and v3 might have higher damage, but they're niche, whereas v2 combos off of anything cause of dragon charge. It does have nice plus frames off of the spin, but Sheeva already has fantastic plus frames off of her strings that you can get strike throw mixups off of in the same manner. Not to mention the fact that v3 is much better for mix anyhow. I personally think v2 is still a combo variation just because you have significantly more combo routes, which is what a combo variation would be about. The plus frames are just a perk of that variation, but it's definitely not the centerpiece.
@@williamcalhoun883 That's why i always talked about V2 as a combo variation, because you can combo the shield into most things, which is always important for characters that otherwise have limited pathing. V3 having Death March is similar at least, but every time I see good sheeva's use V2, it's for the dry keepaway and the conversion/whiff punish potential. Always happy to hear about other playstyles though.
Oh Sheeva the queen of skrub-killing. One of my all time favorite casual run characters when i wanna just play mk especially in mk9 because her combos just were so easy and damaging. I always wished they fixed her hitbox problems in that game. :/
@@PNDKM She was always a scrub killer for me because they never knew how to respond to any of her stomps or trermors. My first flawless in arcade was spamming those moves with Sheeva.
I'd be down to see a Competitive History of Nightwolf, Tanya or Bo'Rai Cho. Maybe even one for the Joker, seeing as he's technically been in two MK games; maybe you can even fit in his Injustice appearances as well.
I remember seeing Jeremiah use sheeva for the first time and doing well. I always rooted for him. There’s was only so much he could do with mk9s sheeva though. Glad you mentioned him.
I don't like how they made sheeva look in mk11. the part I can't really articulate well is the hair, I changed it immediately because I don't like her base hair but I really don't know what they did with it. the part I can articulate is that they gave her much softer facial features and to me that doesn't really look like Shiva, in previous games her face looked feminine but strong.
Armageddon Sheeva's HTH probably had the boss block animation as an incidental carryover from it being one of Goro's HTH styles in the PSP & Gamecube ports of Deception
I told this story in the MKT meta video but back in my childhood i'd visit family in dominican republic every summer. And in DR there are gaming club/cafe where you can pay to play their large library of video games. Here me and my cousins would play MKT on N64. One day we were just playing 3v3 as per usual and i found sheeva's c.high kick infinite and it pissed my cousin off real good
Omg I used to go to those gaming clubs at DR too and stay for hours. There was one of those in front of my house when I used to live there, the old days 😭
I always liked Sheeva and I'm so glad you guys covered her! I've always enjoyed seeing people highlight characters that are outside the TH-cam and "competitive meta". I think a good fix for Sheeva in MK9 would have been a damage buff and making her grabs unlockable that may have changed things for her.
Ketchup & Mustard, I just want say a big thank you for the amazing content you guys put hours in, and we get to consume for free. Informative, well narrated, good editing and an overall very enjoyable video to watch yet again!
One of the arcades at Metrotown in Vancouver/Burnaby BC, Canada was fortunate enough to get the early builds of MKIII. In the second build of the game, Sheeva was broken. Her Tele-Stomp effectively infinited, and it was really hard to avoid because it's startup was so good. Once I (for fun) beat the game with her by just flicking the joystick non-stop, so she just stomped all the way through the entire game. Including over Motoro and Shao Khan. Took no damage. That build didn't last long, though. By the next weekend it was updated. Good thing, because she effectively made 1v1 unplayable if anybody picked her. I wouldn't be surprised if this wound up being why she was made so bad. It's possible they just could not balance her. I think I managed to play all the early builds of this game. A 7-11 not far from my mother's also got an early MK2 build. Vancouver seemed to get a lot of sweet arcade stuff. This version of MK2 had Sub Zero able to do the freeze portion of his Freeze and Shatter fatality during a match. It was unblockable and you didn't defrost. If you had the life lead, you just won. I understand live testing games; but a few of these things I am surprised even made it into any live build at all. How do you not catch these in quality control?
So I have a question. In the SNES, there was a cheat/glitch to play with an invisible Sheeva in UMK3. Obviously she wasn't used in competitive play, since she could even glitch the game, but it got me thinking... if that wasn't the case, do you think she'll be viable? Would be completely invisible at all times save her?
Good stuff! However, Sheeva can "escape" the corner trap in UMK3 by buffer the teleport stomp while blocking. This will make a juggle i.e. pushback the player who does the corner pressure. In some scenarios, she can even do the Teleport through the jabs in corner!
I remember skipping class in high school and going to the local Time Zone and playing the original MK, MK2 and UMK3. I loved it then and I’m still enjoying it all these years later.
Great vid Fun facts. On the SNES version of UMK3 she was removed from the rooster; but she wasn't totally deleted, allowing a lot of bugs. In MK3 on SNES, her friendship wasn't programmed properly, and cant be performed.
