    Miami Fly Fisherman here!! Great video!! I love my vintage glass Fenwick's and Phillipson's rods. Using carbon for salt and glass for fresh !!!

    Love the “one” fly pattern. Do you clinch the barb on the hook?

      I do not. I haven't seen any difference on the effects of it. I only do it when trout fishing. I read a study somewhere where they said barbless hooks didn't have any less of an impact on a fish as to a regular barbed hook.

      What about microbarbed hooks?

    Question, why don't you use a stripping basket ??

      I noticed when I use a basket, I spend more time focusing on if my line is going into the basket or not, rather than on feeding the fish. I’ve just learned to not need one, only cast when it counts, high percentage shots.

      Don’t use a basket in that sense just these platforms with the soft plastic sticks. Not the fixed ones that don’t bend properly. They weigh nothing and help me a lot not to get totally annoyed in the high grass or in the river too. Though I’m trying to get a better line management with my left hand how to use all the fingers to dived the line so it doesn’t end in a fat ugly bundle before I’m throwing or even better in the first stripping guide 😂

      Talking about Temu and baskets, since i always felt paying 100 bucks for a piece of plastic doesn't seem right, they have them on Temu for 15 bucks and they look awesome

    What blank is the custom rod?

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is an 8' 5wt Bushido blank, it's been discontinued and incredibly difficult to find.

      You can find that info in my other video where i review it specifically. It's the $20 Temu Rod video I did.

    🌴 Awww man , wait a minute, now you testing the rods against each other but 👈🏻 your using different reels ! You should of put your Nautilus reel with that line on that custom rod so you get the same balance weight , last night I went and looked up on Temu about the rod , it’s three layers of graphite carbon fiber , first layer iscoil wrapped then a layer of longitude, and another layer of coil wrapped topped with epoxy flow coat , now I’m not a rod builder , but I’m a retired boat and yacht builder , this rod could be a tuff product, ( this is my opinion on carbon rods ) they feel stiff and unless you get a rod with the proper thinness at the tip you lose a lot of action which makes the rod feel ridged or clumsy , you noticed on the cheap rod the butt diameter was thicker ( it’s from China 👈🏻😄) the quality isn’t there this is were you would have to weigh the blanks - cheap vs $ 500 but your not doing a technical comparison, we know the quality isn’t there, the crime snake guides probably won’t last even if you wash em , should be stainless, could you prolong em 🤔 maybe give em a coat of epoxy , so this comes down to a long term use of this rod or even a durability test , could it survive the punishment of the Estrada stress test , I guess will all have to stay tuned to find out 😳👍🏼😄

      Haha, to be honest my bass pro rods last me 8 - 11 months. The guides start falling off, cork grip falls off, reel seat comes loose. For $20, I don’t see a significant difference in quality, in fact parts actually seem better.
