When I heard southern part of Texas and me and baby brother for the first time I never would stop playing them 2 tunes in fact I would listen to them 2 songs before a football game and it would psych me up!!! War you guys were the best!!
Brother Simon truly feel it for you man my sincere condolences, may th Creator cover you with his grace, The music is a blessed food for times such as these be Blessed Sir, Amen Dieu le veut 🙏🏽🔥🙏🏽
This was my jam in 1973 when I got to Ft. Carson ,Co. this cut got played to death when I be on switchboard watch 12 hours. It got played maybe four times during my shift. Fond memories!
My father and mother were from the southern part of Texas. Marfa, Texas. They were high school sweethearts. My father was in the military and my mother move to Ventura, Ca. working in the fields. My father took her off the fields and married her in 1955. They have been here ever since. Now my father is 90 years old, and my mother passed away from bone cancer back in 2006. Love this song!
This album is as nostalgic as it gets for me. I was in high school and we had a close family friend that from Detroit who was just laid back and super cool naturally. He was describing a Cadillac that he saw. Ha said the car was “triple white thirty bones,… all it needed was the brains blowed out.” 😆 The stereo was blasting War!!! This was the slang of the 70’s. RIP James.
I was at a party last night and heard this. I hadn’t heard it since I was a child but immediately started bopping my head 💃🏽 lol....I sure MISS those days
1974-1975…..Goddard-Riverside Camp, Rifton, NY……..this camp was the best camp I ever went to. I was 12-13 years. Girls was on my mind…..The camp would have dances every Friday and Saturday night…….They would play this iconic jam and everyone would get on the floor…..some would do the hustle and some would freestyle…..the memories of Goddard-Riverside and this great jam run together….
I saw them in Boulder in 74 on the University of Colorado with the Doobie Brothers and Golden Earrings! War came on last. Man they was what I expected!
Last part of summer I was enrolled at Langston University on a track scholarship so I went to Soundwarehouse downtown Oklahoma City on East 23rd. Yes I bought War Deliver the Word which contained this song. Then I also bought 3+3 by the Isley Brothers ‘Whose that lady and Summerbreeze. This was also at the time that it was alleged that the great Paul Williams one of the leads singer for Temptations had took his life.. I was so upset by that until I saw the story years later. Well the Town of Langston is a rural town surrounded by old dirt roads that leads for miles. It was on these roads that I played this song. I had a seeet Pioneer eight track that a purchase from Mike Stanfield an older black man that was a electronical whiz.. Each station had a different color red, blue, yellow, and green.. Along with that I had 4 Jensen speakers with the heavy magnets.. They were triankle with bass, mid range and tweeter. One speaker in the center of the dash, one in the rear in the center, and two on drivers and front passengers door.. (To an 19 year old kid that was a treat) .. I had this sweet white 1964 Ford plane Jane with 289 2 barrel and three on the tree.. You couldn’t hear it run so quiet..As I drove along imagining what it was like to drive through the Southern Part of Texas, it was probably like the red dirt clay of Langston. Those dirt roads went for miles and you could lose yourself in them.. Great memories of the past and the beautiful music we got with the bands.. LB March 2022
This has been my favorite band for 40 years. Their music exudes a time, place and street culture in California that I grew up with. God bless em, there will never be another band like this.

Oh my time smoking some good weed and following it with some cold brewski’s or some good old cold TJ swan or Boones farm, that was a party!Especally when I got to Fort Carson in the fall of 73.
It's so cool how music, a smell, or sound can take you back to a specific time and place. This song took me back to the first time I heard it in the fall of 1973. I was at a dance in the Student Center of Los Angeles City College. It was football season and City won the game. The dance was well attended snd this song brought a crowd on to the dance floor. I was in 10th grade, but looked much older 😊
I was at Basic in "TEXAS", they never rocked this song at the Airmans club at Lackland AFB. All they wanted to play was that Stupid China Grove by the Doobies. The brothers was pissed, but we made up for it when we got out of basic and Rocked War with the Sisters in Texas. LOL.
Little known fact: War dedicated this cut to the Ques (Bruhs) of Texas A&I - Kingsville after showing them a set-owt after a gig in Corpus Christi, Texas
Yet another gem discovered that I never heard in my youth. Love the complexity, almost like jazz- but so funky! Another commenter sent me to this song, he'd mentioned that the Talking Heads song 'Cross-eyed and Painless' had a lot of these same rhythms and I can definitely hear the influence. Great stuff!

War is awesome, and I have to give them honor for mentioning my home state of Texas! Many years ago I lived in Brazoria Co.
