Tragic story. I'm familiar with the area, as I've been surfing/camping in Baja for decades. For the past 10 years, that spot has been known by traveling surfers to be the most dangerous surf spot on the entire coast of Baja. There have been numerous incidents of robbing at gunpoint and carjacking at gunpoint. This isn't cartel related. Instead, it's a few local Mexicans who are meth-heads that are desperate for money, or things of value that they can sell. Unfortunately, northern Baja has a growing meth problem.

Mexico is not a bad country and the Mexican people are lovely in general, so much so that the community was very upset, held a protest against violence and a memorial at sea for the surfers. The reality is that when we go to isolated beaches it can be very dangerous, the currents, no lifeguards, wild animals, and yes criminals.
When we don’t even speak the language we have to be especially careful not to put ourselves in dangerous situations, I am not blaming the victims for a minute but let this tragedy be a lesson to all of us who travel to foreign countries.

It’s possible they were trying to steal the tires, were confronted, and then the violence started. The focus at that point was just to dispose of the evidence, including the bodies.

Dible: "I guess it's just fate and this all happened for some strange reason we don't know about yet" Yeah, right. Three Mexicans wanted the tires off of their truck. Fate??? Nothing "strange" about it either. Actually theft is a commonplace occurrence. And to the announcers saying that Dible has nothing to be feel bad about, let's be REAL. Just like Dible said, if he hadn't told Callum about that surfing spot in Mexico, there is a 99.9% chance Callum would be alive and kicking today. Yes, there is that slight chance he would have decided not to go, BUT if he hadn't heard about it and talked about it with Dible, there would have been a 100% chance he would still be alive. People need to start telling the truth, or in the alternative, say nothing at all. I mean, really!

It's sad that Mexico has gone from bad to worse , as a mexican my dream was to retire to Mexico been retired 4 years and the cancer of violence is out of control ...there's the gangs drug dealers corrupted law enforcers in uniform and the governments both corrupted mexican and American, drug trade is a big corporation...real common problem is when tourists go to Mexico some go looking for weed or coke and while it is easier to get it ,it's real easy to get followed and robbed!

"I drew him a crude map on a napkin." Sorry, but that doesn't make sense. That's what people did before the Internet. Today, everyone has a phone in their pocket with access to Google Maps. The road from Mex Hwy 1 to the surf spot is shown on Google Maps. There would be no need to draw a crude map by hand when the device each of us owns has perfect satellite maps showing the dirt roads in Baja. Also, I find it strange that he would come forward with such a personal story. What could he possibly gain by doing that? Oh, that's right ... he's a photographer who sells his photographs. Nice advertising. I wonder if he's had some good sympathy sales this week.

I hope Justice is served for these three men and for the owner of the property supposedly Mexico is a very beautiful place however with the things that go on in Mexico, and with our border, it’s just not safe I pray for the family and for the friends of these men and prayers also for this gentleman that they interviewed that wasn’t able to attend the surfing. And I just like to tell him it’s not your fault. Fly high & rest easy… For the family, my continued prayers for justice.
