My brother and I used to listen to this when my father and mother and aunt and uncle all had incurable cancer. Neil kept me alive through all these times. Afterward my brother and I fought in Grenada for Reagan and we were kept alive through the music of Neil Diamond. When my brother died I played solitary man with a high school marching band at his funeral. I love you Neil
That is so heartbreaking and at the same time so so powerful, thank God Neil Diamond existed just for you to get you through that tragic times in your life. I pray your still alive and can read this sms I’m sending you my sister, God bless you so much.😪
My mother also had breast cancer, she's the only person in the world who drives me crazy but she is also the only one who cares. The others don't matter. I served in Operation euphrates shield. Iraqi kurdistan, trench war in Turkey. It was Johnny's rendition that means the most but I always look back on the classic. Now I wander the world alone. Solitude isn't an art form , it's those who know the cost of what we have to do. All I want is an honest smile from a honest soul.
If there was a contest for the most beautiful mans eyes of all time, surely ND would be the outright winner. Does anyone agree with me? If you do vote with a thumbs up
it has taken the rock hall of fame until 2010 to induct neil i cant wrap my brain around that one,one of the greatest singer songwriters and entertainers of a generation
This man understands how to make music personal. His phrasing is captivating. The very light and almost invisible female backing vocal adds adds to the chorus.
A gifted composer, vocalist and performer. His music is “for all time and all generations.” The lyrics are passionate and introspective! Thank you so much ‘George Evangel’ for posting the lyrics. 🥰👍
My dad listened to this song on the porch every time me or one of my siblings was born. I just listened to it with my first child on the porch. Timeless classic
This man has a soul beyond any other,,, his words and music touch my heart like no other. He is a very special and unique person, with words that express true feelings, and true reality. Neil you are and always will be ONE OF A KIND. Love ya lots.
As great as he is as a songwriter, thank goodness he decided to sing those songs because he is an excellent performer and love his voice. He is an incredible gift to music !!!
The songs were the ones we know. They are always the same, but the interpretation differs. This is for me the most heartfelt concert. It also helps that those producers, directors and cameramen at BBC are the best! (I'm not English)
That has so much more emotion and sensitivity than commercially available recordings. They're good too, and can still reduce me to tears. It's a smashing performance. Thanks for sharing. You're a very fortunate person to have seen/heard this live. (Those tears I mention are GOOD tears!)
Neil Diamond, a brilliant, passionate composer, singer & performer. All his lyrics/music have always touched my heart/soul & brought me to a special place. The stories he tells via the beautiful lyrics/music relate to all generations. This true DIAMOND will always shine!!!!
Excellent singer. Live or recorded. These songs never get old. They are so special and my husband knows why. It's long past the time Neil Diamond should have been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.
Beautiful song, beautiful voice and the man my God, was/is so handsome!. Something very rare for an artist as far as I am concerned, each and every of his songs is wonderful!
Growing up in a small town on the outskirts of town, away from almost everyone and everything, I can relate very much so to this song. Enjoyed it very much when I first heard him sing it in 1967, still enjoying it today.
Michele...you are not the only one who is enamored by Neil's good looks...look at the whole front row of Gorgeous beautiful woman who are also his admirers !. I am a man of Neil's age and can certainly relate to this whole scenario...LOL !
I love this song and especially the man!!! He turned 70 years young in Jan 2010 and he is still the best looking man. I hope he does another concert tour next year cause he is even better looking in person!!!! I love you Neil!!!
A crystal clear voice in all his songs. "If I Didn't Know Your Name" is my fav. song I think. Hes a very genuine man.. . . .Nothing phony or pretense about ND.
The best live version of Solitary that i have seen or heard actually. He doesn't jazz it up for the live performance. It sounds almost as haunting as the record.
Scince I was 10 years old I have been listening to Neil Diamond songs,40 years later I am still mesmerise ( in a positive way ) by his music.Neil is in a class by himself.By the way I still listen to his songs every week-end when I am home.
I've heard this song performed live many times and this is my favorite version. I think he's conveying what a Solitary Man really is the way he's performing it here.
Man, Neil had it ALL! Supreme talent, stunning singer and songwriter, and to top it off--- he was a super handsome man! Actually he is still very handsome:)
I was a Tree People at the Greek Theater. He mentioned us on the album Hot August Night. We were all Hollywood Blvd street kids.No money and were hanging out in the park when we heard his music start. Sooo,..we ran to the theater and climbed the trees that were on either side, and they hung over the wall.We climbed way out over the wall so we could see him. Security told him about us and wanted to know if they should remove us.He said no. I'll never forget when he called out to us.It will always be in my heart.
que hermosos tiempo, cuando escuchabamos a NEIL DIAMOND,hoy gracias a los adelantos podemos ver estas maravillas de videos que suben ustedes amigos, gracias de un CHILENO.
and mainly the fact that had he not written the song cash and HIM wouldn't have sung it! there's no debate! neil's voice is probably lasting voices of all time, he still sings it perfectly and beautifully today! hero!
He's just sooo beautiful. Both his voice, his presence, and his fine looks. I get lost on youtube watching him.I start on oNE thing,he shows up and off I go,..LOL!
Only recently started listening to his music a year or so ago. This is one of my favourite songs from the man himself. What an incredible songwriter!!!
OMG! Is this song a theme to my life or what? You can only write stuff like that with experience!!! It brings me to tears every time I hear it! It was a favourite of mine even before life dealt me so many heavy blows. Through that song, I know I'm not alone! Thank you Neil!
It's an incredibly emotional song, really. He was really at a peak from the Bang Records period until after the "Hot August Nights" times...then he completely unwound it and it took him years to get back to anywhere near his old form. But as a great man once said "Better a has-been than a never-was".
He had a dry spell. I thought he might of exhausted the well, too. Still, here it is 2017 and he is still delivering better material than many. Something Blue, Sonja? and Jimmy. Not the early 20 years, but still great.
Yeah, I didn't say you couldn't enjoy him. He had, as said below, "a dry spell". If you enjoyed "Jonathan Livingston Seagull", good on you - same for his "acting career". Most of us didn't. But he did what 99% of others didn't - he re-found "the flame". Now if we could just get the royalties and rights problems staright on the Bang album and re-release it! And this song is one of the finest American songs of lost love ever.
Good song which expresses very well how we feel at times when we are lonely and cut off from friends and family. I had this experience when I went to America to study in the first days I knew nobody and was far away from my family and friends. It lasted till I made new friends there. It is something boring to to go the movies alone to see a picture and to have no one to share with one's experiences. So I wrote them down in a diary I had.
His music remains magical - always will. No one wrote songs that were pure poetry like he did. This song is one of his best - along with "I am I Said", and on and on and on. He didn't do junk - raised "pop" music to a new level. Inspite of Elvis Presley. :>)
Neil was in Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday night, July 24th.......played to a rockin' roarin' crowd of over 19,000 fans in the beautiful Quest Center! I was there....and will never forget it! He is beyond awesome....humble, wise, unbelievably talented.....and FUN!
My 1st Real Love @ 17 yr old... this song came out... (1966) I was so drawn to him. He was married and 8 yrs older than me. Have Loved him all my life. Will, till I die. That's True Love.
Since 1969, Neil Diamond has been my favorite singer. I've been to every concert he had in Houston and San Jose. I'm so sorry that I can't attend a farewell. I will pull my original "Hot August Night", and display it on my book case.
Bless you. Thank you for your service, all of you.
That is so heartbreaking and at the same time so so powerful, thank God Neil Diamond existed just for you to get you through that tragic times in your life.
I pray your still alive and can read this sms I’m sending you my sister, God bless you so much.😪
Dio,,,,,tristezza enorme

Beautiful story, thankyou for your service. Grenada was a bunch of crap, I'm sorry you got sent to such a ridiculous conflict.
If there was a contest for the most beautiful mans eyes of all time, surely ND would be the outright winner. Does anyone agree with me? If you do vote with a thumbs up
The eyebrow lift at 2:39.. oh boy.
@@stevenmiller184 yup, I noticed it too and I friekin melt it.

mine would be the guy who played with Fleetwood mac who had those amazing blue eyes
This is his BEST recording of Solitary Man. He sings with such passion, not to mention how handsome he is. You can see his soul through his eyes.
it has taken the rock hall of fame until 2010 to induct neil i cant wrap my brain around that one,one of the greatest singer songwriters and entertainers of a generation
Because they are idiots!!!!!
Because they are idiots!!!!!!!
The so called Hall of Fame is run by idiots. That is why
yes it makes you wonder, one of the old time greats
I am guessing 'they' didn't think he was rock and roll enough.
Neil Diamond is not only a gorgeous man,he's an American Legend and Treasure 👍
Beautiful man - no one could ever sound like him
He is so beautiful. If he were mine....I would have been faithful.
This man understands how to make music personal. His phrasing is captivating. The very light and almost invisible female backing vocal adds adds to the chorus.
I could listen to this man for ever and ever amen
This could possibly be Neil's greatest performance
Dude is an American treasure, one of my heroes. My first exposure to real music was my parents playing Neil diamond and watching jazz singer with them
He wrote his songs with his heart ... and that emotion just pours out so honestly when he sings. I love all his songs.
I feel as he heald my broken heart. ...
MY favorite by Neil. Simple, eloquent and powerful in music and words.
A gifted composer, vocalist and performer. His music is “for all time and all generations.” The lyrics are passionate and introspective! Thank you so much ‘George Evangel’ for posting the lyrics. 🥰👍
I've been listening to Neil sing this song for 40 years now, and it's still one of the most beautiful, and feeling songs ever sung by anyone.
Maybe my first album ever was Hot August Night, as a young boy. A fan ever since.
Grew up listening to him, my mom loved him. Neil is an absolute anchor.
My dad listened to this song on the porch every time me or one of my siblings was born. I just listened to it with my first child on the porch. Timeless classic
Masterpiece!
I can’t imagine Neil Diamond being alone for very long,he had so many female admirers.
This man has a soul beyond any other,,, his words and music touch my heart like no other. He is a very special and unique person, with words that express true feelings, and true reality. Neil you are and always will be ONE OF A KIND. Love ya lots.
I love how the camera is looking into Neil's gorgeous eyes the entire time....omg cheat on that man? No freakin' way.
Word!🥰
Anyone who dislikes this is jealous of Neil's charisma and performance!
Young handsome and beautiful Neil. Loved his eyes. ❤❤❤. I dream of having Neil. ❤❤
Being that I'm introverted, this would be the theme song for anyone who's introverted. I'm just saying.
Beautiful song ,Neil Diamond Beautiful
Absolutely the best !
Love all of his music.
Wow, that is one of the most subtle, yet honestly emotional performances i have ever seen. Wow. The pain in his eyes, reaching out, is.....whoa.
He owns this . . . His voice just reached in. Wwwwwwowww! He is this song! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Smooth! Golden voice!

Who's here in 2019? Still the best music, back in the day ✌🏻
The best live version of Solitary that i have seen or heard actually. He doesn't jazz it up for the live performance. It sounds almost as haunting as the record.
And THAT, folks, is what a real singer sounds like without lip synching.
Saw him live in TN in 1987. Great show.
Scince I was 10 years old I have been listening to Neil Diamond songs,40 years later I am still mesmerise ( in a positive way ) by his music.Neil is in a class by himself.By the way I still listen to his songs every week-end when I am home.

Much better than his studio version. A lot more emotion here.
I've heard this song performed live many times and this is my favorite version. I think he's conveying what a Solitary Man really is the way he's performing it here.

Solitary Man is Neil's very first song he recorded in a studio and it is also his very best.
Thought Clown Town was his recording.
Good song which expresses very well how we feel at times when we are lonely and cut off from friends and family.
