- Welcome back guys! Here’s a quick review video of the new GMC Canyon Denali! It’s a pretty sweet mid sized 4x4 truck! But is it better than the 2024 Toyota Tacoma or Ford Ranger?…🤔

My ‘23 Canyon Denali came with factory running boards, not sure what happened to yours. My fuel economy averages 19-20mpg and 26-28mpg when I stay on roads at 55mph. I’m happy.
I bought my first GMC Canyon Denali in March of 24 and absolutely enjoy driving it( I’ve put 4000 miles on it) for a 4 cylinder engine it has a lot of power, the turbo max engine seems to be a good motor ( only time will tell) I’ve been a Toyota fan for years( until this year) it basically up to the individual on what type of vehicle you want. Enjoy the ride. Thanks
same, at4x!
That’s a good looking truck! Love that color
It looked so sharp in person!
Have had two Colorados. Both had issues.
Switched to the Ranger. No issues!
I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m glad you’re in a better truck now. What years were each of those trucks? And if you don’t mind sharing the issues you’ve experienced. 🤷♂️😅
My 2024 Canyon Elevation with 1100 miles is currently in the shop. Roof dented from the car wash blower, it's leaking oil, and the check engine light came on. EDIT: Still in the shop going on day 13. Actually had 2 leaks and the transmission needs to be dropped to fix the leak. Yay me. Waiting on some backordered part. I have asked GMC for a new truck, and they have politely told me to pound sand.
Ouch 🤕, I’m sorry to hear yours is one with some of the most common issues. If those issues get sorted out do you think you’ll keep the truck long term?
Man. That sucks! Hope they repair it
Not good-----
I thought the roof dent thing was corrected.
Makes me leary to take mine to a touchless?????!!!!!
@@rich4860the patches were installed.per the TSB bulletin but it still buckles under the fan, albeit not as bad. The roof is literally as rigid as an aluminum can. My sonhas a 2017 Tacoma. No comparison. If I had checked the roof prior to purchase I never would have bought a Canyon. Its a joke really
This exact post is in EVERY GMC review. Either you’re desperate for attention or a bot
I have a frontier pro4x which I love but a good buddy of mine just got this exact truck in black. It’s so darn sharp!!
Nice!! I really like the Pro4x.
I think GM sees this as their future. Direct injection is always a concern to me with all the carbon buildup reports. They seem to have a system that mitigates the issue (some sort of pre-ejaculate pattern which debatably cleans the valves) lol. This might just be the "LS" "truck engine" of the future. Debating hard on buying Bison AT4X at the moment, but still working though the sticker shock.
got my 2023 zr-2 desert boss a couple of weeks ago. paid 62803.00 with ttl and love it. gets lots of second looks and people asking what is that
@@warg333 What a stupid comment!
Damn! That thing is heavy! I have a 2015 F150 short bed regular cab 4x4 with the 2.7 ecoboost. Bought it new and I have 130k miles, I have averaged 20.5 mpg over that time, the GMC is almost 600 lbs. more than my full size truck😳
Yeah, it’s got a bit of weight! I’m not sure your aluminum paneled regular cab F-150 is a fair comparison, those these are unfairly light weight, lol. Hence why there’s a lot of really fast modified F-150s on the internet. 🏎️ 😜
Alum body makes a big difference. We have a 20 Crewcab with the 3.5 Eco. Love it.. Probably wont buy new because of outrageous price nowadays. WOULD COST $76K or more to replace it.... NAH, CRAZY!!!
I did research on this engine it pretty much was built like a diesel engine, they should be super reliable, and the tranny has been around with minimal issues. I’m considering this truck because of its power and towing capability compared to the Tacoma
Have you found the 8 speeds to be pretty reliable then in your researching? I only ask because I had a friend with 6.2 V8 and 8 speed in a 2015 truck and the tranny started slipping at 40k miles. I’ve not looked into this 8 speed if it’s the same part number or a revision. But I haven’t heard a single 2.7T issue on the forums, in fact that seems to be the most reliable engine offered in the half ton trucks these days lol. Best of luck, these trucks are fun!
Oooo.... Sweet low-end torque. Me, likey. 😁
First gear is definitely very torquey on these TurboMax engine! 🏎️ 😮
Two guys in black suits showed up at my house. The suggested it would be in everybody's best interest if I left on-star out of my comments going forward. I agreed. So ..
This is an amazing truck. I recomend it 100% you should definitely get one if we leave on-star out of it .
Hahaha 😂
Hahahahahahahahahaha.... smart move for your longevity 😂😂😂
I bought a brand new 23 Denali on May 30, 2023 that I ordered. Had it all of 4 months until it was lemoned on October 5th, 2023. More issues than I can begin to write here. Trailer break was defective from the factory. Undercamera wiper line not hooked up from factory. Wireless charger never worked. Terrible dried dripping paint underneath. Cameras glitched and would flash on the screen nonstop. And worst of all, the screens bricked up after an over the air update that also killed the battery. The truck had to be towed in and for 2 months they couldn’t fix it so GM made a couple payments and then put me into a 23 Sierra Denali with the baby Duramax that has been absolutely flawless so far.
I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m glad it all worked out to get you into a better truck!
Purchased my 24 on May 16, 2024 and it was lemoned in July. Dash not working, infotainment screen blinking, headlight issues, surging while in park, trailer brake issues, bed power outlet not working., stalled in the middle of the highway due to a strange battery issue. All of this with less than 1,000 miles on it.
@@ThinCrustPizzzza it sounds like your experience was very similar to mine. I was hoping they would have everything sorted out by the time the 24’s came out. The trailer break issue almost got me killed. I had just bought a brand new Airstream and leaving the dealership they failed and caused the Airstream breaks to lock up doing 70mph.
@@andrewmeadville7057 I was hauling a small camper and thankfully it happened to me when I was going 35mph with no other cars around. It was scary though. But in the end GM made it right( I’ve been a life long customer) and gave me a 24 Sierra High Country for half off. No issues other than the crappy factory wiper blades that I replaced the day I got it.!
@@ThinCrustPizzzza Sierra High Country? Sierra would be Denali. The Chevrolet equivalent is High Country. And half off? Thats incredible. I was happy with the 10k off of sticker that I got.
Home run on the style. How about a 6 foot bed. Dependability if the product is good should come with a 5 year 100k warrantee
for the price of the denali you can get a ranger raptor if you buy from a small town dealership that wont charge MAPs for orders...
Yeah, that’s a really good point. I haven’t driven the RR yet, but for 56k is probably the best super midsized truck!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 yeap, if you can find somewhere that wont tack on a adjustment
I love the new look of the Tacoma. I'm also biased as an owner of one.
Nice! They do look cool. 😎 I owned a 2nd and 3rd gen and definitely miss them.
looks great, overpriced, made in mexico and reliability and problems galore, toyota dealers are the worst. wanted the trail hunter, got a canyon at4x
@@lgbnz the new Tacoma platform is only 6 months old. We don't have enough data to claim reliability is an issue. The only known ADD failure was on TFL's Tacoma. A couple early manuals required a new transmission, some water intrusion on some of the very first built Tacoma's causing a check engine light... So far mine has suffered none of these issues.
@@jackcrackerman that's fair. but even anecdotally, not a good start for the new taco. and the recent recall of 100k tundras for potential catastrophic engine failure is not inspiring confidence either. it's hard to say that toyota's bulletproof reliability reputation is a not a bit on the hot seat.
Beautiful 🛻
I just bought one of these. Two things that are missing. One is the front parking assist, and the other is HomeLink! Seriously GM, HomeLink was invented in 1993 and the top of the line Canyon Denali does not have it 31 years later? Back to putting the garage door opener on the sun visor, like we did 20 years ago. And the no front parking assist? Back to hanging a tennis ball from the ceiling in my garage. Also, there are numerous complaints about the phone charger being junk as well. Mine included! Shame on you GM! I could go on, but I don't want to bore everyone... I'll trade this one in a couple of years.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences!!
Bummer
What do you prefer: Colorado ZR2 or Canyon Denali? Which do you choose?
Few thousand miles? It has 20,588! I bought my brand new 2023 Colorado Trail Boss July 3rd of last year only has 3600 miles on it! That’s a ton of miles for a 2024!
Lol 😬 yeah, this one had been driven quite a bit!
Also, thank you for watching so many of my videos!! 😊
In 2 months I only have 300 miles on mine--- retired!!!!
Great review of the Canyon. Where did you get those splash guards/mud flaps at?
Thanks! And I’m sorry but I do not know, I was just borrowing this slightly used one for a few hours to experience and make this video as well as a 0-60 comparison between other Colorados/Canyons.
I put Husky Liners Mud Guards on my '24 Canyon AT4. Easy install - NO extra drilling, they look factory, but pricey at around $110 for set of four.
Good looking truck , but was disappointed they went away from the diesel engine
Yeah, a refreshed mini max would have been a good option!
No grab bar driver side... cutting cost. Like hard plastic dash & upper doors!!!
But they could of cut the stupid bumper ball receiverless hitch( That retails for $550+or-)out of the standard equipment. What a waste... Nobody that i know in a DENALI would add a bumper-ball for towing---- NOBODY!!!!!
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy driving it! It's just for $50+ ,000 it should of came with some more added luxury items..
While i like it a lot … my concern is reliability! Is this truck will last up to 400K miles or more with no major issues.. that’s the only reason am inclining more for a frontier pro4X….
That’s a good question! I’m sure the current gen Frontier is pretty dang reliable, especially with the NA V6. But although I haven’t driven one yet, I’d assume in typical Nissan truck fashion it already feels mildly out dated and has a less than ideal safety rating. But I’m completely ignorant of them and could be wrong. Personally, I still think they look cool. 🤷♂️
??? Question!! Have you ever got 400K out of any of your other trucks...
Just curious seeing as how YOU brought it up!!!
Wrong, the Tacoma trd pro is 65,000 without markup’s
Thanks for adding this! So insane. I filmed this a few months ago before pricing came out. I would never have believed they wanted 65k for a Tacoma lol. 😂
I love this truck . Only question is this new 2.7 Turbomax engine . How reliable this new engine is
That’s a good question! I don’t hear about common issues with them in the forums, and GM gives a 5 year/100K mile warranty so that’s some decent peace of mind. 🤷♂️🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 But as a GM/ Chevy fan I will buy this truck … :)
The Denali trim package is really quite a horrible look for the supposed upper ended one. That front lower trim on the front that's the body color versus the black looks bad... not to mention the lousy chrome accents.
The driver doesn't need the oh crap handle as they are supposed to be holding the steering wheel driving the truck.
That’s a good point! I was more thinking for pulling yourself into the truck. I’ve had a Tacoma in the past that had the handle.
It's to get IN the truck--- not drive it!!!!!!!
@@rich4860 Which can also be done with the wheel if you actually need the help.. You're not climbing up in to a monster truck.
@ericteneyck8691 It feels like a monster truck for shorter people...like my wife who is 5'1.
GMC is the best looking.
This one did look good!
AT4X is the highest trim, not the Denali
Thanks for the correction! I’m not as familiar with the GMCs as I am the Chevys. This was just a bonus driving impressions video after I used this truck for part of a 0-60 comparison, and I definitely did not do a lot of research like I would a full review. 😅
Actually AT4X AEV.. BIG TIME BUCKS-----
Driver doesn't need an oh shit handle, he has the steering wheel.
I'm amazed how you younguns think 60-70 grand is a great deal. A 4 banger truck loaded should be under 30 grand. I gave 31,000.00 for my 2020 pro 4x v-6 310 HP frontier and I thought that was close to being to much money.
This truck walks all over the frontier in every category. And you can get a nicely equipped Canyon/Colorado for just over $40k. Your dollar has been devalued considerably since ‘20.
Such is inflation...
@@Holden-McGroin until that 4 banger turbo engine blows up
@@musicgroopie1So far I’m hearing it is less problematic than the 5.3. We have four of them in our fleet now, and two of us drive about 1k miles a week, so I’ll keep TH-cam posted on any issues.
GO THROUGH THE TOUCHLESS CAR WASH AND CAVES IN THE ROOF..GM CRAP..
No standard running boards on a Denali?
This one was slightly used, so I can’t say for sure if they had been removed or just not there to begin with. I don’t often film GMCs.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Ok, thanks.
thing is a downpayment on a 750k house 😲
Buy assets not liabilities! 😜 But cars are still fun, lol.
4cyl Truck. Hard No. !!
I get that, but for being a 4 pot, it’s quite impressive!
The people who badmouth this engine haven’t driven one. I was leery at first too...now I cannot wait to ditch the 5.3 for the turbo.
These trucks looks SO GOOD but anyone who chooses to ignore the enormous plethora of info about all their issues on the internet is just asking for heartache
This 100% ⬆️. IMO depending on the spec they’re about the best looking midsized, and the proportions are so good! But yeah, the forums on these trucks don’t make them sound very appealing. 😳
8k on mine and zero issues with my 23 AT4. Most PPL if they don't have issues never say anything. Love it!!
I have 20k on mine no issues, get a job. Lol
@@thewireman134 uh oh, GM fanboy is triggered
@Jay-bw3fl not at all you don't have one yet so why talk reliability. Get a job and buy the Nissan it's perfect for you.
it very tall, wont fit in my garage
Thanks for sharing this! The one in this video definitely felt like a tall truck.
Way too pricey!!!!!
Get those STUPID big, blingy wheels off that truck!
Lol, I mean it is a Denali so I’m not surprised that GMC put those on it. 🤷♂️😅
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Denali or not, big wheels are useless on trucks. They add ZERO practicality, are expensive, look ridiculous, and are easily damaged. Any truck or SUV needs more RUBBER, not more metal on the road. The entire automotive industry needs to quit with that Blingy, gold-teeth looking crap.
Its a good looking "junk", they are nice in side, way too much LUX for a pickup truck, and they do not last or are reliable, junk.
What do you prefer: Colorado ZR2 or Canyon Denali? Which do you choose?
I really like the look of the ZR2, but they’re both cool trucks!
