As somebody in the UK, this all just sounds very odd. Over here, driving lessons are completely separate to school where you find your own instructor (normally on yelp or through word of mouth) and pay them for blocks of lessons. You then get a 1 on 1 driving session maybe every week depending on how busy your instructor is. Everything else is pretty similar though in terms of testing.
Thats how it is now most schools don’t offer it anymore
Damn, in Australia we learn with our parents (or someone who has a full license) and when we need to take a test to upgrade to the next level (such as L's to P1, or P1 to P2) we do the test with an instructor.
It depends on the state. When i took a class I paid for it separately. But ultimately all you really have to do is go to the dmv and take the written part. Pass and then you can be taught by a legal driver
@Daily Dose of Space You can learn with your parents in the uk too, but the rules are strict. Just most people don't, as an instructor is going to make you a better driver.

My first time driving with an instructor I literally never drove on the road in my life and he told me to get in and drive and I was convinced I was going to die that day but I actually did good and didn't crash surprisingly. It was awful though like REALLY awful.
I had my first ever panic attack when I drove for the first time with an instructor. I’ve noticed that it’s a constant across drivers ed that they don’t actually teach you how to drive but sit you in front of a wheel and expect you to figure it out on my own. she said I would never be a good driver and actually called me insane because I had trouble turning and was scared to go on the road, I had never been behind a wheel before.

Be grateful mom pushed you into driver’s Ed. I didn’t care about driving and when I finally did, in my late twenties it still took several years to successfully get my license cause I had to find other adults to teach me and trust a non driver with their car. Finally at 33, I got my license.
The dude at my driver license test was really nice.
He told me what mistakes I made but like you know, in a good way. The first one I made was making a turn to get to where he was so that he could get in and begin testing. "You didn't use your turn signal coming in here. Good thing I wasn't testing you yet."
Like he exuded good energy. If you tried and failed, he wouldn't be upset. So at the end, I was nervous. "What if I made too many mistakes". So he was checking my score (you needed like 15 points to pass), and said this: "Well, you got 18, so unfortunately, I'm gonna to pass you."
I was there with my mom, and after getting out of the car and heading near her, he added "Well? Tell her the bad news!" He was great.

The British drivers test is more like dark souls
In The Netherlands it is more like EA. You have to pay alot for everything. €1600 in total is pretty normal. You even have to pay for saying that you are healthy enough to drive. Then you get road taxes, ensurance expensive fuel. For a young person it is really hard to own a car if you don’t have parents who sponsor you.

1:09 I HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS TOO. I HATED THIS SO MUCH. THE ONLY REASON I LEARNED HOW TO DRIVE WITHOUT ACCIDENTALLY CRASHING THE CAR WAS BECAUSE I WAS WITH A STUDENT THAT ACTUALLY KNEW HOW TO DRIVE AND HE HELPED ME.

I currently have my permit, so I'm in that stage of life where I'm learning how to drive, but I think I know everything. I dont think I've met anyone who was itching to get their license. I'd rather just stay at home and watch TH-cam on Saturday rather than going out driving lol.

1:25 Amen to that one... Driver's Ed. was all about don't drive under the influence and don't speed but really didn't teach much about driving itself. I think part of my problem is as we were rural it was assumed students grew up on a farm and drove before. Me being a "town kid" didn't have much in that advantage.
That car driving animation was really good, I like that the wheels were not perfect circles and the car moved like it was driving with out perfect circle Wheels. Good job!

I just started driving by myself no parents or anything. I would take my mom's car and drive around because i lived in a rural place so no cops were around and 1 month later I was driving without a license🗿 my driving test was a 5 minute drive around the town (it's a small town) and a bit of parallel parking that was easy because it had cameras. I can't parallel park because I drive a z and it's a big blindspot on wheels
As a adult who has a permit and still can't drive, i swear my parents think im weird when i tell them driving is scary

Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I got my driver’s license.
I had to take the written test a second time, but thankfully passed the actual driving part on the first try.
After I finished High School (10 years next week 06/21) I got a 1999 Ford Taurus which I still have to this day.
In my first lesson (which for some reason had to be two hours long) the very first thing I did was back out of a parking spot in a full, busy parking lot.
I never did another lesson.
Not only did tim tom upload today but he said there's a part 2, that means hes back baby!

I feel like it's so much harder to get it when you are older, I didn't want it but my grandma was like: "Ya know you are taking a break before college, you have a free year so you should do it now because you won't have time to do it later." - I am so glad that I did it because my best friend is 23 now, in a college, working on a diploma and barely able to squeeze in driver's licence because over here you first need to go through the classes, than you need to take and pass a test, then you need to find a driving instructor and driving school and have a ton of lessons and then you need to go through the driving test, so it's way better if you do all of that earlier D:

I'm twenty-seven and I don't have a license. My mom wants me to learn to drive, but I don't think that I necessarily *need* it
I'm not alone. It really sucks, cause I don't have the time or the car to even practice, much less take the test. So every time I want to go somewhere or need to go back home (am in college) or whatever, it's always this big ordeal to schedule and it makes me feel awful.

I intentionally failed the permit test at my high school because I felt it was a load of shit. Being surrounded by a bunch of fools grasping at some false sense of “independence” and “adulthood”, I felt that getting a permit was pointless.
I just made a little zigzag on the scantron for the test, and I somehow didn’t get the lowest score still.
Had to believe that so many people thought they were big shots when they started driving
High school is like a little cesspool.
I also failed ones. Although the first time my driving was better I almost hit a parking car and failed. The second time I was so nervous I made many minor mistakes and almost failed, but since I had the same guy testing me I guess I passed.

In Germany you sign into a class as well but it mostly starts at noon and we have to at least drive 7 times on normal road and traffic and then 2 hours on high speed roads, 2 hours on landscape roads and 4 hours a long road out of the city/country.. it was so stressful !

I grew up in a farm town of 400 in the buttcrack of Oklahoma. Everyone is a farm kid, and everyone learns to drive at anywhere between 8 and 13 years old. We have special Farm Truck license plates here, and you can be licensed to drive a farm truck as young as 12 years old. You can't drive it to Subway or your local Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. You must be driving the truck for an agricultural purpose. Yay child labor! But the upside was that when it was time to take my exam, I already had half a decade of driving experience. So I got my license in a half hour. You just drive to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol station, you bring your own car, your parents fill out some paperwork, you take a written test, then a state trooper sits alone with you in the car and grades your driving. Sometimes you get the cool one. Sometimes you get the tightwad. I got the cool guy on my day. He didn't even make me parallel park. I totally wrecked the cones on that day in driver's ed. Took a while to figure it out when I moved to the city and had to parallel park on a regular basis. It's actually pretty easy once you have time to practice.

my state has a driving course we have to go through, S1 we have to turn slightly right and straight and then back up to the starting position, S2 we have to parallel park, S3 we have to do a 3 point turn, S4 we drive forward, S5 we back up BUT there's a stop sign that most students don't know they have to obey for and the only way you would know about it is if u took drivers ed drivers ed and ur teacher would tell you about it which I didn't take drivers ed! luckily my friends took drivers ed and told me about the sign beforehand.

I have anxiety while driving too - I am fine if I am on my own but I hate having anyone else with me, what helps me however is speaking out loud, I literally tell myself everything I see and it keeps me focused and keeps the anxiety at bay ^^

My driving instructor always had us stop at grocery stores, coffee places, and restaurants so he could get food and drinks😂One time he made a bet with a kid driving when I was in the back seat and if he didn’t make any mistakes the instructor would buy the whole class donuts for one of our morning classes, he did, lol.
