Voting blue doesn’t help mental health problems in this country. All this new ideology pushed on young people is part of the problem. They are crying out for love and acceptance and they’re not receiving the real help they need. It’s not just the semi automatic weapons. Handguns are also used in neighborhoods with violence. Insurance is the key. Make it illegal to own a gun and not carry insurance for it. Doesn't matter if it's had made or manufactured. The more deadly the gun. The more the insurance premium. I will guarentee ownership will decline. It infringes on nobody rights. Then when a mass shooting happens. Then the insurance offsets some of the cost. Enough is Enough. A 17 year old buys a gun. Insurance is 10k a year. Let's try it.
It's also unconstitutional to force your religion in others using government money and laws, but conservatives do it anyway.
Besides, what about requiring training, licensing, registration, and insurance interferes with a "well registered militia?"

My friend lost his nephew at Sandy Hook. I checked in with him the day of the Uvalde massacre to see how he was. He said, “I’m okay. I’m used to it now.” No one should be used to this!!
My cousin worked for counter terrorism, and had to go to Sandy Hook before the children were taken away. He went through absolute hell for years reliving that scene in his mind. There is no worse hurt than something like that

NO ONE will be okay until we Force legislators to chose safety over money. Flood the phonelines to your congress people, petition, advocate, unite! Make them hear our comments daily. Don't let them rest. Our kids deserve a fighting chance.
The idea of an "unsecured school" with "too many doors" and "active shooter drills" is baffling to me as a Dutchman. Over here, schools don't have police officers. They don't even lock their doors most of the time pretty much, because it just isn't necessary. Kids can go most of their entire life without even seeing a gun or hearing about guns.
My kid is about to go to school in about a year and I had to drop off some paperwork. I could just walk in the front door and hand over my paperwork. Because it's a fucking school, not a military fort during a zombie apocalypse.
I'm a Canadian, and this concept is so foreign to us. None of our doors were ever locked. We had no security besides the teaching staff. People and students walked in and out of the building whenever they wanted. They want to turn schools into fortresses/prisons.
the United States is the only country that does this in peacetime. i suppose that's one thing they're *great* at.
In the US in the past century, this was not an issue. I graduated high school in the 1980s and never had an active shooter drill. This is a more recent phenomenon.

Ashley Beasley broke down how in Mexico there’s only one place to purchase guns and that’s at a store on a military base. Cartels come to the US and purchase AR15 style weapons and take them back to Mexico to the Cartels.

I don't remember what city it was had a shooting a while back during a holiday (maybe 4th of July) parade. News media reported that the adults were frantic and the kids all knew what to do. I burst into tears hearing that. I remember the terror engendered by 'duck under my desk' drills during the Cold War, but that never came to pass. For these kids, shootings are a monthly, if not weekly, reality

I agree. When I was stationed in the Army in South Korea , I believe I heard the penalty for illegally possessing a fire arm was life in prison. And only people with special government permits were allowed to own them. And this is a country that has a communist party on its northern border.

For the last several years, I've found myself voting against every incumbent I have the opportunity to simply because I don't like the way crap has been going in this country.

It completely stuns me every time I see or hear a reaction of Americans to another mass shooting. When I was a kid growing up in Ukraine, the times were tough and lawless, but we never had mass shootings. My school had a flimsy fence that we kids had torn in many places because we couldn't be bothered to walk around. The school gates and doors were never closed. We never had any guards except an old lady with an absolutely horrible voice who stopped every adult entering the school. Also, our parents only brought their kids to school during our first year. Starting from 8 yo, almost all of us had been commuting through the city independently (school buses are not a thing in Ukrainian cities). One significant caveat was that civilians were not allowed to possess firearms. And we never had any mass shootings.
As of today, March 28, the year 2023 is 87 days old. The Nashville shooting marks the 129th mass shooting in the US in 2023.
Here in Germany, we had 8 shootings in schools... since 1913
