  • ⁉️What questions do you have for me⁉️
📺After watching this video, you will know the 4 interview questions I ask when I go to every interview. 🛋Get comfortable, grab your pen✍🏽 and notebook📓, and take notes!
📓Whenever you go to an interview, you should ALWAYS go in prepared with questions for the school leader. This is your opportunity to see if you want to join that school community.
🙋🏽‍♂️Ask insightful questions and listen INTENTLY. I’ve been on interviews where school leaders immediately showed me that I did not want to be a part of that community. There’s nothing worse than joking a school and regretting your decision or being uncomfortable until the transfer period.
👋🏾My name is John Burnett and I am a middle school counselor. This is my 11th year in education overall. This year marks my 5th year as a school counselor. I’ve worked in elementary and middle school environments and I’ve learned many things along the way. I love helping new and verteran educators.

I would always ask what they would consider a successful first year in the position looking like. This garners a positive reaction from the interviewers as they consider their answers. I would get a sense of their expectations, work style, and get an idea of what I might need to do as I kick the year off.

I usually never had questions during an interview but since I've watched this video, I'm definitely going to use this format. Thanks for the information.

Hi Cleno! Having questions prepared shows initiative and makes employers feel as if candidates are invested in the school!
Plus it allows candidates to see if they want to work there. I’ve heard horror stories where people accept positions and end up unhappy because they didn’t ask questions.

One question I ask is what difficulties are they facing currently. Sometimes I phrase it as what keep you up at night.

That’s one of the questions I ask too. It gives you context to know what they need and what their goals are.

Hi Mr. B. Do we ask all 4 or just one of 4?

    • @counselingwithmrb

I ask all 4 questions and at times I ask a few more. Usually interviewers build in time for candidates to ask questions so feel free to ask as many as you need. ☺️

    A two-part question I like to ask:
    1) what drew you to this place?
    2) and what keeps you here?

👏🏽👏🏽I like those additions…I’d ask “what do you like best about this school/organization”
