Germany remains pinned down, although her army cannot be defeated by the encroaching Russian and French armies. The Austrian forces hold the center, which keeps the Italians squished and adds to the protection of Germany. The Ottomans continue to take and hold the territories surrounding the Black sea while slowly pouring troops into Africa. Earlier at one point an Austrian force was sent to occupy Iran, which persists thanks to Ottoman support. All Allied ships are horded together concerned with the German fleet which is growing within the Baltic sea. Meanwhile more and more Austrian and Ottoman submarines built in the mediterranean are slithering into the Atlantic. This is the situation of my second try as the Central Powers......turn six. Many more dice and joints to be rolled yet.

Just two games played on A&A 1914. A&A WWII is the best though, 248 games since Dec '93. This is Mike from N.B not Christine.

in m opinion, control of the Mediterranean and north sea/English channel is vital for both sides. I'm actually doing a solo game now, with AH and OE navies patrolling from Constantinople to Gibraltar. the british are on their own in india, and the german high seas fleets just crushed a combined French, british, and American fleet. with no way of shipping units across to reinforce Verdun, the allies might either have to hold at all cost, or retreat to paris, because the CP hammer is crashing down on france.

In my opinion this game is unbalanced with a big advantage for the Allies. If nothing dramatic happens the Allies win.
So the Central powers must make a breakthrough happen rather fast, attritrition = Allied win.
Germany is strong and has the buying power, she can hit hard and sustain losses. If possible let the Germans spearhead the attack!

I agree. Did you try the out of box rules or tournament rules?

I think it is unbalanced either way but I think it is less unbalanced with the out of box rules. I have no idea why people play with tournament rules! They’ve never explained that. It seems to give the CP 0 chance to win. In my experience it’s possible to win with the box rules, it’s just hard

I have other games with soviet pieces so when 1917 comes around I place about 10 infantry in Russia

Played this as central powers. First turn as Austrians took Romania, Serbia and Venice. Germans took Picardy and Belgium and confronted British fleet. Allies were on back foot for the rest of the game.

Hi John, Nice vid. You mentioned that the US enters the war in turn 3 but I believe it has to be turn 4 even in the tournament Rules. In the game turn 1 series you published I noticed that you use these Rules but I wondered if you have adjusted the initial set up accordingly. Nice series which I enjoyed watching. Greetz!

Hi Arjan. Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed this series.
I believe there may be a few different tournament rule sets out there. The version I am familiar with can be found in this PDF smo63.fatcow.com/pdf/1914TouneyRules201363new.pdf It's also the third result when doing a Google search for "axis and allies 1914 tournament rules." This particular rule modification uses the base setup, aside from any bidding of course.

+Jonathan Meyer Thanks for the comment! Yep the Rules I know are different on that part. I have downloaded my version from larryharrisgamedesign.com but this version is older than the one in the link you send. Thanks!

The printed rulebook with the game does say that the US enters the war ON turn 4, unless attacked directly by the CP or unrestricted sub warfare is initiated by GE.

This sort of *simulates* the US entering the war, fully, in 1918, when it started in 1914. Make sense? The same turn rule goes for tank production, as they were a "late war" tech.

Here's the version of tournament rules that I use. The rule set used at GenCon and the Origins Game Fair can be accessed via this link: www.headlesshorseman2.com/origins.html. Just click on the "1914 Tournament" button and the PDF should download.

I have won 3 out of 3 games as the cp now. Oob rules. I find germany, no matter how well they figjt, are always just the nlood the victory is paid in. Austria is a capital killer, due to its placement. I see some easy ways for the allies to stop that, but my opponents have not. Inevitably, if the ottomans are ignored, even a little, they do wonders with breathing room, and usually become a (very late) menace for the allies. Poor germany sheds so much blood, and gets decent money, but really doesnt really make much headway. It is just a big, very scay, distraction for france and britain. The best the allies ever did against me, the french reinforced italy, and france, brit, and the us pushed into the rurh via belgium.... just in time to meet my winter warriors, marching back. We had to end that game due to time, but the ottomans had taken italy, austria was putting a heavy threat on france, via switzerland, and the germans, while encroached on, had the other armies tied up... btw, people keep saying a cp navy is lunacy.... it definitely is not, you just have to use it correctly and time your builds correctly. If you dont build navy, the allies win... period. With it, you should do fairly well... but be tactical.

A late reply but I agree. I've won the last few games and I've played as the central powers. Germany is absolutely your anvil. Let France and the U.K. crash into it as much as they want, you can take it. Do not get cocky. send the troops already on the eastern front into Russia, gobble up a few dollars, but send no additional troops east. Build your High Seas Fleet. Every single turn I built 1 battleship. If the UK doesn't at least keep up with you they'll be in trouble. If at the start of your turn you have a larger navy than the UK start building transports, they'll get the message. Maintain a "Fleet in Being" whos very existence forces your enemies to be more timid. As Austria hold Italy at bay, but fight on Italian Soil. Everything else goes against Russia. With the UK spending so heavy in the water up north they'll have far more limited resources to devout to India. Germany takes Northern Russia, the Ottomans take the south, and Austria is your hammer that you beat down their front door with. Once Russia's out of the way it's all but a guaranteed Central Power victory. Hope that Russia stubbornly clings to Territory and tries to fight everywhere, if they're smart they wont.

I think there's something to be said about moving ottomans into Africa. It can help you force US, British and French forces to put troops needed in Europe on the African theatre. Ottomans dont need to capture India. Simply force a stalemate. If the British navy can be stopped in the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean it makes taking Africa all too easy. Also taking sevestopal for the ottomans is key for the central powers. Get Russia out of the way ASAP!

I am in totally agreement if I knew all this information before I started the game yesterday I would have had this in play but this is really good information and we're going to be playing this a lot more time cuz eventually we're going to have more people in my side myself will be the the team but these are good if we develop our own strategies we'll certainly post them

Hi stated playing the game last night with my son we both love the games, but I do believe this is not balanced but it's what it is so the method that you describe can be a working three are most certainly going to look into this a lot closer but I do like to know where you're having with this I do believe that you have to try to keep France and Italy at Bay and work with what you have to take out Russia but we'll work with this and I'll let you know
