    If Italy doesn't spend any money on the first turn, and meets all their objectives for bonuses, they can save up enough money to buy 2 cruisers on the second round. They can contribute quite a bit to the naval effort to help keep allied sea forces away from Europe's west coast.

    Just defeated the Allies on the 42 Scenario, In 4 1/2 rounds.
    Good times lol. I rarely lose on this board.

    Fun Fact: This is the version that started the modern trend of "Germany destroys the entire Royal Navy G1" that holds in every single version after this (Anniversary/42/42SE/G40, with the odd man out being 1914 due to a lack of planes).
    I don't like it because it makes UK's play pretty bland for the first 2 or so rounds (they're stuck rebuilding their navy unless they're trying some out-of-left-field move like an India Factory). This means that the Allied early game becomes static, which enables Germany/Italy to develop a streamlined strategy for the first 2-3 turns that it can basically always use to brutalize the USSR before the Western Allies can do anything (it takes *at least* 3-4 turns for the UK/USA to amass a fleet that can survive Germany's air power and attempt landings anywhere important. By this time, Germany is usually at the gates of Moscow and Japan isn't too far behind).
    Those are just my nitpicks from experience though. Oddly enough, I prefer playing Italy to Germany because I like seeing how much I can get away with using Italy's pathetic situation (10 IPCs, halfway decent fleet, bare-bones army/air force). One time I got them up to like 25 IPCs by taking all of Africa/Mid East/Caucasus. My opponents weren't very good but we had a blast making jokes about delivering Pasta to Stalingrad.

      After all, A&A is a little like chess. If your opponent makes opening A, you need to do B for best effect...

    Also; I think I might have mentioned this before, but the 42 scenario is broken because Japan can land all of its planes in East Ukraine, creating an impregnable Axis fortress right outside of Moscow.
    Look at the map. Here's a list of territories that are within 4 spaces of East Ukraine (that are feasible for Japan to get to early, mind you):
    Burma
    SZ35 (off of India)
    Suiyuan
    Hupeh
    Sikiang
    Yakut
    Seeing as Japan goes first in 42 scenario, as long as Germany/Italy can maintain control of East Ukraine and Japan can hold Burma throughout the first round, Japan can land its 7 FTRs/1 Bomber in East Ukraine on turn 2, completely shutting down any chance for a Soviet counterattack in Southern Russia.

      Not sure if you mentioned this in your Japan video, as I haven't watched it yet. Apologies in advance if you already did.

      Doucheman Macgee if japan does that they leave the pacific very open for the allies to take. Japanese airpower is the only thing that gives them an advantage in the pacific.

    I have a question, tanks cost 5 , infantary cost 3 , if you spam tanks how can you counter them? Does infantary spam really counter tank spam?

    • @JonathanMeyer84
      @JonathanMeyer84  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. For an equal spend, the infantry will typically win on the defensive. Let's say you have 30 IPCs worth of units, 6 tanks on one side and 10 infantry on the other side. The tanks should hit 3 on average whereas the infantry should hit 3.33. For the sake of this simulation, we'll round that down to 3. Now we have 3 tanks on one side and 7 infantry on the other. The 3 tanks should hit 1.5 times. Let's round it up to 2. The infantry should hit 2.3. Let's round that down to 2. Now we have 1 tank versus 5 infantry. Even if that tank hits on the last round, the odds are very good that those 5 infantry will score at least one hit. If by some miracle they don't, they'll surely hit the next round.
      The relative power of the units is important, but so too is the quantity of the units.

    Are you planning on a 41 strategy series on Anniversary as well as this 42 one

      I have that on my agenda, but I want to get through 42 first.

      41 as Germany is a tough nut to crack. Took me many attempts against the AI on TripleA. Would love to see your thoughts.

    How do you feel about sending the sub in sea zone 8 to attack the US fleet? All they have to defend is a destroyer so it's a 50/50 chance to kill the destroy and two transports. Or do you think that the British fleet pose more of a threat and deserve more attention?

    • @JonathanMeyer84
      @JonathanMeyer84  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I favor it if the attack against the primary British fleet looks solid. It's important that Germany takes out that battleship. If Russia doesn't reinforce that fleet with their sub, that does put Germany in a position where they can send one of their subs elsewhere and still succeed. If the Russians do reinforce, I prefer to solidify that attack rather than go for an additional 50/50 shot elsewhere. I tend to be a little more conservative in that regard. If both attacks succeed, the German player looks brilliant. If both fail, well, Germany is in really bad shape.

      The British fleet is much better off in this version and it's quite a bit harder for Germany to destroy the Brit's fleet.
