when you do diagnosis for a living, the collection grows. Mine isnt as comprehensive as his, but i have several. I have 2 Snap On solus (a plus and an ultra) and i use them nearly daily. My Solus Plus is the only one in the shop with secure gateway. So I unfortunately do the newer FCA diagnostic -stuff. For across the shop wireless monitoring nothing beats an Autel MAXISYS Elite. I use it to watch engine temp, oxygen sensors and fuel trims. I set alarms for out of bounds and keep the scanner close by.
As an automotive locksmith the gold standard is an Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro. An Autel 508 has the same IMMO programming as the 608 for a lot less. The 608 is also a full functioning scan tool in addition to the IMMO. The 508 is just an IMMO. We have a 608, two 508's, two KM100's (never used them as of yet), two Smart Pro's, SmartBox, and a few Chinese knockoffs. Believe it or not we have had a couple cars fail to program a fob with the heavy hitters and for kicks we fired up a Chinese knockoff and it programmed. If I could only choose one and I hate token machines as this is, it would be the Smart Pro. It's big bulky, annoying and expensive but it's the most reliable. Any flavor of Autel can brick a Honda BCM. When programming a Honda key or Fob and it asks for a date verification even if correct ALWAYS choose no. It doesn't write correctly to the BCM when choosing yes. Ask me how I know. :(
In your experience, what would you recommend as the absolute cheapest tool a fella could get by with when only programming domestic brand smart keys? I don’t care if it is slow, needs half a dozen cords plugged into it, or requires soldering to eeproms. I just want something that will get the job done on the very rare occasions I need it and can pay for itself the few times I use it, before it becomes obsolete. Generating seed codes would be worth an extra couple of hundred or less, but I could get by fine with tokens.
@@athhud I'm more familiar with the high end of the spectrum do to the volume and type of cars we have in Boca Raton. In your situation I would suggest the Autel KM100. That is going to give you the best bang for the buck. It will do most domestics but . . . We have run into a few GM 2021 trucks that no programmer we have will do them. 2 expensive programmers say they can do them but I haven't seen any videos or reviews if they actually work. At the moment we have to send those to the dealer. Other than that the KM100 should be perfect for you. It's around $400 to $500. We have 2 of them and never used them yet but plenty of locksmiths are using them. I think they also have free updates which is huge. For ease of use my guys mainly use the Autel 508 and 608. There isn't any eeprom work on domestics for making keys at least. That's mainly on older Toyota's and some Euro trash.
@@scotts4125 thanks! The KM100 was on my short list. The GMT800 are all over the place here and the KM100 would also be capable of mileage correction via eeprom (from my understanding) for those notorious instrument cluster swaps.
The biggest problem I encounter in the UK is with cars requiring replacement of security related modules (BCM, PCM etc). None of these aftermarket scan tools cover this feature now and dealer level software requires a lengthy (and expensive!) application process. I am thankful to be nearing retirement. I fear for the future of independent repair shops, particularly here in Europe. We are being forced out of the industry, and, the dealerships are only as good as the techs they have working there. Technology still does not completely replace knowledge and experience.
HMM, many of the US tools will allow full access. BUT I've talked to friends over there and your MUCH more restricted in what you can do than the US is.
Understand that concern in UK. The better business model moving forward, is that mechanic shops become "specialists" towards certain manufacturers. That way only purchasing those specific manufacturers software licensing. Besides... "specialists" get to charge more per hr anyway. haha
You can always buy a tool made for the US market but unless you use a VPN service you probably won't be able to upgrade it. You might not be able to buy it but you could have someone in the usa buy and ship it to you. But you would be better off trying to get the laws changed Like Americans did.
Dealer techs are generally incompetent. All they seem to be able to do is paint by number and they don't even get that right a good share of the time. Almost lost a tire on the freeway from a dealership. You'd think they would know how to do something simple like torquing down lugnuts.
@@biz4twobiz463yes, I see the industry breaking into specialties as well. Other breakdowns will be ADAS specialties, electric and hybrid cars, battery rebuilders for said electric car, electrical nightmare specialist 😂 etc
Just bought myself the OTOFIX IM1 and purchased the D1 Pro program so the unit does keys and is a diagnostic tool, all based on the Autel program, pretty impressed with it so far.
@@momomohamed there is two sides of this diagnostic tool. There is two menus, IMMO and DIAGNOSTICS. Select diagnostics and pay for the D1 Pro. I think it was $140 for this. 👍🏼
I bought the Thinktool Pros for my VW . I do like it, but they dont give many details when they give you an update. Just my observations. I keep my Vag-Com in back pocket. 425k miles and going. Currently working on scoping my 225 hp E-tec outboard 2 strokenengine. Thanks for all you videos. I wil be up when I do a camand lifter replacement. Car runs like a Swiss clock.
Can you please comment on the fees, subscriptions, and other costs needed to actually make these scanners work for a household with several cars of different makes.
I have the ArtiDiag 800 BT from Topdon There are no subscription fees And free lifetime updates Able to real just about all males and models 28 reset function Live data Wen browser Auto vin scan I’ve had it for two years and it works well It does not have bi directional capabilities but you can actually figure out a lot with the live data It costs about 375 on Amazon I got this because I’m not in the business and use it at home on several cars also friends and family. I like the Bluetooth because there are no cables Also it has Wi-Fi and can bring you to a web page when you are reading fault codes and want more information Downside is it’s only 16 gigs of memory but I deleted a whole bunch of Chinese models and other models that I will never use But if I do need them at a future date I can reinstall at no cost and at anytime.
@@gunnar1911 You can still use them. I get about 2-3 year out of one of these without paying for upgrades. Then sell them off for about 1/3 to 1/2 price and buy a new one.
When the free updates run out, you can still use everything that's already been downloaded into the scanner, as new cars continue to come out each year, that's where the need for ongoing updates comes in. And then you purchase the new subscription for new updates if you need them.
At the recommendation of another channel, I picked up the "2022 Elite LAUNCH X431 GM". It's small but quite powerful with bi-directional capability aimed at the DIY. It's one limitation is it's limited to GM products. I see other models limited to Honda and another for Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep. With Amazon prime day, they're $120. It seems like an outstanding value for those working on their own cars. Updates, it says "lifetime" but it looks like the expiration date is quite a ways down the road.
I Am a home mechanic here, just bought a LAUNCH CRP 123, after watching your channel, finally got it working and thought good I now have a scanner for the life of this car, Update for one Year, that's ok I thought, once it works that's ok But then found out if you don't subscribe to do the update in the next year, they send a signal to your scanner that stops it from working at all, until you pay for a new subscription you will then have a crap BRICK------- IMAGINE IF MICRO SOFT sent a signal to turn your computer off at the end of the first year because you did not pay the ransom.
I purchased an Autel MX808S. On multiple Hondas the MAF reading was completely screwed up and the graphing scale was useless for some PIDs. Bidirectional control didn't work on a 2007 Pilot. There were other issues too. Their tech support was terrible.
I use both the Xtool D9 Pro and the Xtool Anyscan A30M. The A30M does not have the topology map, but the rest seems to have identical functions. As an ASE Master with L1 and 57 years of experience (yes I am an old fart in his 70's). Not a "know it all" but I know what I like.
@@johnhill3644 The D9 Pro tool is a great scan tool. Is any aftermarket tool 100% as capable as the factory scan tool?, No, but they are very close now. Never had to access a gateway module (except on one 2005 Dodge Magnum with 5.7 hemi), but was using a factory scan tool on that. The topology map is a big help too.
You can get security bypass cables for the Autel tools that hook into the car after the security module but that can be a pain to get to. Be aware that if you do not update the Autel tool your autoauth subscription will not work on it. There are other manufactures going to jump on that bandwagon making you pay for a security clearance.
@@davemc3650 I’ve already heard that Ford and Toyota are moving to secured access like FCA. They claim it’s for internet security so someone cannot hack into the vehicle. Just something else you have to pay for to work on vehicles.
I bought a Launch unit and was able to do the full brake system bleed on a 3rd gen Prius using it after an ABS actuator and accumulator replacement. It’s not something you can do without a bidirectional scanner, it activates specific solenoids in the brake system in a specific sequence to bleed all the air out, followed by the stroke simulator, cycling the nitrogen accumulator numerous times followed by calibrating the linear actuators so they can work properly with the regenerative braking system. It was worth the investment for me and I like the fact that I can continue working on my cars myself.
@@johnhill3644 I have not used it on anything that new yet. I assume that you’ll need to buy the Kingbolen Ediag Plus to do CAN FD with the K10, but I don’t know that for sure.
@@Ptech878 my only complaint is that I can’t download 3rd party apps (which I knew going in). The only reason I care is that my stupid iPhone 7 is slowly being rendered obsolete (apps require a newer iOS than my phone is capable of downloading) and it would be nice if the K10 could fill that role. I certainly can’t knock the K10 for it, because it was never advertised to do that, but it is something that I now realize matters more to me than I thought. The only other 2 disappointments is that it won’t pull Chrysler immobilizer PIN codes and I can’t seem to keep the Chinese car company software deleted off of it. Either I am doing it wrong, or every time it runs an update (every day) they start getting added back. With all that said I am absolutely pleased with it, especially for what I paid for it. I absolutely recommend it to anyone for just diagnostic work. If you want to do keys, this ain’t the one, but for diag it is great. The battery seems to last FOREVER. I never turn it off.
I have the launch version of that Immobilizer programmer, the box where you put the keys on. It works with any x431 based scanner. This is a powerful tool. It will do all keys lost on Mercedes, VW and BMW. It clones and programs ecu’s and TCM for Mercedes, VW, BMW and GM .
Ran into a locked gateway (SGW) today on a 2020 Dodge. What a racket! Same exact issue I could not do anything with my thinkdiag, thinktool, ended up getting in with my Autel but it shouldn’t have been that difficult.
I'll take which ever one that can set the points in my 1965 Chevy C/10. And it better have a flat screwdriver attachment so I can adjust it air idle screw. I hope I helped you with your decision. 😂😂👍
@@calholli I'll do something like that when this engine dies. I don't fix things that ain't broken. I need a work horse, not a race horse. I've put 300k miles on it myself. I've bought a Microsoft office software CD in 2006. It won't work in Windows 10 anymore (unless there's a hack around it, idko) but that' why I keep a couple laptops around still having Windows 7 installed in case one burns up. Point in case, I don't have to be online and have to have a Cloud based annual subscription to use Word or Excel. Same with my old AutoCad software. Those tech companies have turned society into subscription and throw away servs which now becoming the norm in the automotive repair industry. With the push to home automation, will a fancy China reverse engineered scanner be needed next to troubleshoot your SMART dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, water heater and dryer?
When my Thinktool pros was damaged in a fire, I reached out to the original seller for a replacement. They sent me the kingbolen k10. It was DOA in that the touchscreen digitizer did not work at all. I sent it back and had them send me another pros. Still a great tool.
Im an Automotive Locksmith and a lot of changes are coming to these scan tools that will require a NASTF VSP to perform any Security Programming. This is due to a spike in Locksmiths being robbed for there tools. Diagnostic functions will not require a VSP.
Thank you for making this video! I was looking for a scan tool and saw your video, I purchased the Launch CRP 919E BT and I love it so much! It does pretty much everything the expensive ones can do only for $450.
I also recently purchased the launch x431 elite pro 2023. This morning I got my friend to let me give it a through go threw. I was originally trained on the Modus when it came out. So I may have unrealistic expectations?? The x431 cont to be slow in loading all the parameters, sensors and tests capable. And I am not impressed with how few actual tests it was able to perform. My question for you, an I do rusty and need to get used to it with patience or does it actually read, sense and test as much as y'all are bragging it up with?? Or, do I need to pay for upgraded software?
You have to buy the immo blue tooth add on. This add on does the keys. On this same note, I recommend you get the VSP 600 inspection video scope and the BST 360. With these 3 add ons, this unit is a beast
Ivan Just purchased a 2013 Equinox. 150,000 miles. I understand they have issues with oil burning, but re-ringing and engine isn't an issue. Being this a 2013, I'd like to upgrade from the red brick to a bidirectional scanner. What's important for me. 1. Under $500 2. Lifetime update 3. ??? Thank you for your suggestions!
I have been running a Diagun V for about 3 years. It has been a great tool. I haven't found anything it won't do. I don't work on Euro trash though. Mostly GM, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Toyota and a Nissan once in a while. It only came with 3 years of free updates, but it had been a little over 3 years now and it still updates for free. Mine came in a case with a TPMS tool too.
Unless I'm mistaken , the crp919 is not actually from the x431 family,, despite being constantly advertised as being so on Amazon. It dosent support the x431 TSGUN tpms wand to clone and copy tpms sensors. The entry into the x431 family is the x 431 pro s elite....
When the free updates expire it has been worth it to get a new tool with another round updates. I love the thinktool but the forced updates that put unwanted software on the tool is annoying and the lack of a browser is also a feature I want. The launch IMMO is an awesome tool, along with the Autel km100 it takes care of many key and IMMO issues
What forced updates? I have the same tool as Ivan has and I don't get any forced updates. I also looked at how you can remove vehicles that you will never use as well. Since I'm very doubtful that I'll need GAZ, or SanPi or some of the others. I just select the updates I want and let them run.
I agree. I have a LAUNCH X431 V+ PRO 4.0 that the free updates has expired. They want $600 for a 1 year update. I can purchase a new unit for $912 with 2 years of "free" update. No brainier. I'm just a DYIer, so I don't plan on upgrading yet. My old unit is working just fine for now w/o them.
Same thing I do now. I buy a new tool use it until the free updates run out and then look at the vehicles I need it for. So say the free updates expire in 2023 but I don't see vehicles that are under warranty so I figure I'll start seeing 2023's in 2026-7 or so. So in 2025 I'll buy a new tool, get faster hardware, new software and that "new scanner smell"
@@steadyeddie7453 No. It will still function. You will not be able to do AutoAuth on Stellantis vehicles and SGW on some newer vehicles without up to date software.
I’d be interested to where to follow up on the Thinkcar/FCA issue. I only work on Promasters, and I only have a Thinktool ProS. Integration with the SGW was flawless. Then about two months ago it, it stopped working for no apparent reason. The SGW would work, but it would hang scanning 2019-up, and sometime hang on pre gateway vehicles. Opened case with Thinkcar (they were helpful but could not resolve the issue). After about a week, it just kinda started working again. And I have learned to scan “off year”, meaning some stuff on the ProS simply isnt implemented for some years. Scan a 2015 as a 2015, and you cant individual command the fans. Scan the same vehicle as a 2014, and you can! I’ve learned to scan every Promaster as a 2017, and everything works. The auto detect has NEVER worked, on chryslers or any other car. Not even once! Not even on crap from the 90s.
So Chrysler kicked me out on a snap on scanner and matco scanner (expensive ones) because we dont have the license. So i plugged in an ancel 310 i think it is... the tiny one. Cleared the code no issue. Little $20 scanner doing a gandalf vs balrog moment

@@KollynJ Didn’t order it I think the sale price was about $850. And they changed it to $1000 eventually I ordered a Topdon phoenix off eBay for $800. It’s been good so far. Better than using small code readers.
@@KollynJ yes I think it was worth it. I have about 13 cars now and occasionally purchase an auction car to resale. Normally charge my friend's about $30 to $100 to scan cars to better isolate trouble for them.
Ivan, I really enjoy watching your videos. I only work on my own vehicles and always wanted a scanner to diagnose the check engine lights. I ended up picking up the Launch CRP123E as my first scanner just a few weeks ago. I have a 2011 Durango, 2013 camaro and an 02 Dodge Caravan. The scanner seems to work well with them so far but since I only know some basics would it be worth getting the LAUNCH X431 CRP919EBT since I only deal with mostly those vehicles? Do you know of any in depth videos that detail all the different modes of scanners for us DYIers at home? Your trouble shooting skills are top level, better than I have seen anywhere else, thanks for making these videos. Take care.
My first diagnostic scan tool was the Snap on with all the additional Cartriges. around 2004 it became outdates and could no longer do newer vehicles starting in 2005. So I sold it and lost money on this setup. I spend over $1,000 back then. Next was accutron kept it for a couple more years and sold it. Purchased a New Launch in 2015 good, but not great. Sold it! Purchased a new Model Launch -worked great, but still not enough to really diagnose items like ABS wheel speed sensors. Sold it! .Just purchased a new Autel 808S- seems fairley quick and does a decent job of ABS Wheel Speed Sensors, but really doesn't pin point or give any documented test for which sensor is not responding due to intermintent signal faults. So I'm thinking about the Newest Autel OTO FIX D1 Pro. What are your feeling about this Diagnostic test Tool. I borrowed a friend Snap on D8 Scanner and it actually is no better than my 808S. Would appreciate your opinion!! Yanni
Umm, Ivan. When exactly did you try to use auto auth on the thinktool and get kicked out? I have the same exact pros that you have and mine worked just fine this past Monday when I used it on a 2021 charger. I have seen instances over the years where the launch works, but the thinktool doesn't. Update the software on both tools and the thinktool works but the launch doesn't. I'm still rocking a x431 pad2. I love that thing. I wish it had more storage space though. Anyway, great lineup of some new tech! I've been thinking about picking up an autel scanner. And the price on that s-ts is hard to beat.
Ivan I just remembered that I was supposed to upload a video for you of me using the Launch X431 software on my old Samsung Galaxy S5! I ended up having to buy a XTOOL X100 to do late Mitsubishi ('18etc) Stuff as even the Autel MK808TS wouldn't/couldn't do it. In my experience with the smaller form factor Autel the Battery life has always been Poor(at best)!
I own Launch fir over 2y now. There's a big problem with it that nobody talks about. After your 2y free software expires, ot will limit the amount of features and actions you can perform, such as EPB calibration, Key programming, BCM configurations etc. Basically anything more than medium range scanner can do, will be disabled. I have videos and email conversation about it from Launch directly, to prove it.
@@Zanin22 The Launch Creader Elite 2.0 comes with lifetime updates and supports variant coding (and key programming for early immobiliser systems). I've read that the X431 CRP 919 still offers all functionality after the first two years and one just doesn't get any further updates without paying for them. I do not know whether that's true, but it might be worth figuring out which specific model @ErikTheVikingMechanic is talking about.
I would like to see how much money is invested per year in aftermarket scanners vs oem. All of the channels that I watch have multiple scanners because of compatibility issues, not to mention incorrect codes due to software glitches. So buy a laptop and have a bag of OE obd 2 adapters such as Ford IDS, Chrysler witech, so on and so forth. If you are using the hardware and software from the manufacturer then you should be covered. Wouldn't that be cheaper than 5 different scan tools all the subscriptions and wasted time figuring out that your tool wont accomplish the task at hand?
Not really as easy as you would think. Many of the OE software systems will not run if installed on the same hardware even within the same brands applications. That is why Keith had a truck full of scan tools and laptops. You can't have Ford and GM on the same laptop, the others are similar. Plus the OE tools are FAR more expensive to buy and have high priced subscriptions that go with them, and they also lack some of the capabilities that the aftermarket units have. Another issue is that if you are working on multiple brands do you really want to spend between $3,000-12,000.00 per tool that you only use maybe 4 times a year? As an example. Take Ivans last few videos He would need the GM, Honda, Ford, Toyota, Land Rover, Subaru and Chrysler OE tools. For GM full coverage from 92 to 2023 requires 4 different OE scan tools, Honda has 3, Ford is on number 4, Toyota has 2, Land Rover has at least 4 that I know of because they have been owned by multiple companies whom each used their own systems. Subaru is on their second one and Chrysler is on tool 4 but they have a few different adapters for the two latest applications. That list doesn't cover VW, BMW, Mercedes and a lot more. Plus many of them have very specific computer hardware specs in terms of OS, memory, processors and more. That is why it's a VERY complex topic, and why an aftermarket tool that can do multiple makes and models is a great thing.
BULLETIN: New information. The secure gateway is NOT specifically FCA. I did brakes on a 2021 Ford recently and had to have secure gateway to unlock the calipers. So getting more common. NOTE: some VW Audi use secure gateway too.

Thanks Ivan for this video. Damn I missed the sales time. I like the launch scanner. Hopefully they will go on sale at a later date. I procrastinated with the ThinkToolProS around this time two years ago and they had it back on sale around Christmas. I grabbed it then. Can you swap ECUs with the Kingbolen K10 scanner? I do not mean ECU programming. I mean that if you need to bring a used ECU from the junk yard and install it on the car being fixed, can the K10 write the vehicle VIN on the used replacement ECU in addition to matching it with the IMMO? This is a timely video. My Thinktool Pros's two years of free updates are coming to an end in four days and I'm thinking of buying a new scan tool instead of updating the Thinktool. The Kingbolen looks nice as does the Launch. Which one do you think has more capability? Does the Launch have the topology? I wonder what modules are compatible with both since I have some of the extra modules for the Pros such as the scope.
@@leecoon1004 Yes, I updated the day before my subscription ended. The interface is the same as it always has been. I actually bought this scanner through Ediag on Amazon which is part of Kingbolen. Maybe tomorrow.
Hey Ivan. I’ve been watching tons of your videos and I’m really in the market for a scan tool. At work we have Autels but I feel they lack some live data I need or bi directional functions. Especially with light duty diesels. I’m really interested in the think tool platinum s10 pro. What would be your opinions on it, I see your think tool perform very well and I’m really intrigued by it. If I’m not mistaken I’d believe it’s just a newer version of your scanner. If not I’d maybe get a top Don phoenix smart, but mainly leaning towards the think tool
Ivan, I think you should do a separate full length discussion focusing solely on the Chrysler/Launch/AutoAuth issue, and explain it in as much detail as you understand as of now. I found your short explanation to be very confusing. One commenter said it costs an extra $50 for every different car you attach it to? That can't be right, can it? NO shop would buy that tool. Thanks
You pay one $50,00 fee that registers the tool itself as an accepted tool. Not per car. Now if you are doing programming you can pay as you go with most makes and those get charged per VIN. So say you have a GM that needs 3 modules programmed, you enter the VIN into the GM system and buy the slots for that vehicle. Then you have a different GM come in you have to buy the slots for that VIN as a separate purchase.
It costs 50 dollars a year for an AutoAuth account. They are a 3rd party Chrysler uses to managage the security gateway. 50 dollars lets you set up to 5 tools on your account. You can get more slots and add more users for more money. The 50 plan allows 4 users. This is really intended for shops not the DIY user. I don't know much about the Launch/Topdon/Thinkcar issue. When you add a tool to your account you have to pick the manufacturer of the tool and your serial number. Since June Thinkcar and Topdon are not on the list. Kingbolen is not either don't know if it ever was. Oddly enough there is a option to choose Harbor Freight 😁
PLEASE, I want to change the dash, ie cluster, in my Audi A6 2004 due to burnt blinker indicator led and of course the VIN mismatch on junkyard dash turns on the immo. WHAT'S the best approach? local shops won't work with customer supplied dash. I'd rather spend the money on a scanner and learn. Autel 808 sts, or IM 608 Launch CRP 919 ¿???????
Yip, Being independent mechanic shop it cost alot of money as we have to work on every brand to make money, and it is subscription this and pay that and buy this tool kit and that tool kit. And being in South Africa economy, that 560 usd is just over 10K for us in our BS currency
Scanner Danner says it's great. But then again, topdon sent him their fanciest large tablet.. So they are kinda incentivized to like them. :) .. but I trust his endorsement. I'm pretty sure topdon just uses the same launch software as this Thinktool Pro that Ivan is using. The only difference between them is the hardware- one has more memory and a bigger screen, etc.
Can you still use the 12 plus 8 connector harnesses to jump gateway and still use the kingbolen? Have you seen the new matco MAXIMUS PLUS DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOl? It looks just like that launch tool.
take a look at the xTool D7; around $300 for us weekend warriors. I take care of all the cars in my family- I can almost justify getting an Autel but for now- the xTool is doing everything I've asked it to do- even did a couple of keys for me. In the family I've got 3 Volvos, a Toyota Rav4, 2 Honda CRVs and an older 1998 Volvo S70 which I use a Volvo specific iCarsoft i906- but there is no bidirectional control on that cheap scanner. Looking for a scanner than also works with light duty diesels. I have a 2010 cummins and my old scanner does not play along with turbo actuator calibration or dpf or injector check. Anyone have an opinion on these style and cheaper scanners.
Привет, Иван! Мне не понятна твоя аргументация отказа от обновления Thinktool ProS ? Мой обновился две недели назад и теперь имеет интерфейс как у Kingbolen...
Does this mean that after the PROs update, the screen is the same as the Kingbolen K10 shown in the video? I'm currently using it, but there's no change, so I'm wondering if there's a separate setting I need to do.
I haven’t used it, but the K10 does have some kind of screen mirroring feature or something another. There is a button for it on the tool anyway. I’ll try it out and try to remember to report back.
Ivan is just low-key flexing his scanner collection! 😂
when you do diagnosis for a living, the collection grows.
@@scotts4125 KM
@@scotts4125 thanks! The KM100 was on my short list. The GMT800 are all over the place here and the KM100 would also be capable of mileage correction via eeprom (from my understanding) for those notorious instrument cluster swaps.

The K10 supports CANFD and DoIP so support a lot of cars 2018 and newer, so that might sway it for you.
Pay attention to what devices can use autoauth and what future software upgrades cost per year.
But you would be better off trying to get the laws changed
Like Americans did.

Thanx Ivan for going over the scanners. Appreciate it very much and this has helped me a lot. Thanx again.
Can you please comment on the fees, subscriptions, and other costs needed to actually make these scanners work for a household with several cars of different makes.
I have the ArtiDiag 800 BT from Topdon
There are no subscription fees
And free lifetime updates
Able to real just about all males and models
28 reset function
Live data
Wen browser
Auto vin scan
I’ve had it for two years and it works well
It does not have bi directional capabilities but you can actually figure out a lot with the live data
It costs about 375 on Amazon
I got this because I’m not in the business and use it at home on several cars also friends and family.
I like the Bluetooth because there are no cables
Also it has Wi-Fi and can bring you to a web page when you are reading fault codes and want more information
Downside is it’s only 16 gigs of memory but I deleted a whole bunch of Chinese models and other models that I will never use
But if I do need them at a future date I can reinstall at no cost and at anytime.
This. I would like one, but just for my home fleet of cars, do these things become useless after a few years if you don't pay the fees?
No subscriptions or fees necessary...
I Am a home mechanic here, just bought a LAUNCH CRP 123, after watching your channel, finally got it working and thought good I now have a scanner for the life of this car, Update for one Year, that's ok I thought, once it works that's ok
But then found out if you don't subscribe to do the update in the next year, they send a signal to your scanner that stops it from working at all, until you pay for a new subscription you will then have a crap BRICK------- IMAGINE IF MICRO SOFT sent a signal to turn your computer off at the end of the first year because you did not pay the ransom.

You can get security bypass cables for the Autel tools that hook into the car after the security module but that can be a pain to get to. Be aware that if you do not update the Autel tool your autoauth subscription will not work on it. There are other manufactures going to jump on that bandwagon making you pay for a security clearance.
That’s why they have more dodge/chryslers sit in their lot while big popular brands have waiting lists to purchase new vehicles

Been using the Kingbolen K10 for a few months now and it is top notch! The only disappointment so far is that it won’t program RKE GM keys.

How is that k10 holding up , ? Main issues ?

I have been running a Diagun V for about 3 years. It has been a great tool. I haven't found anything it won't do. I don't work on Euro trash though. Best bang for the buck is Otofix D1 Pro uses Autel and does key programming
With your Thinktool, does the tool lockout of you don't download the updates?

Very good point

I procrastinated with the ThinkToolProS around this time two years ago and they had it back on sale around Christmas. I grabbed it then. I love the ThinkTool ProS but you can never have to many scanners plus I’m a Dodge person so the Launch could come in handy later on.
which of those tools like autel work with subarus and can reprogram and tune?
Is there a scanner that does both heavy duty trucks and light commercial car?
My question to you, I am a beginner and primarily my own vehicles, 2012 town n country, 2008 ram 3500 4x4 6.7l Cummins, and older vehicles back to 2000. Basically gm, Ford or Chrysler products, which model do I really need, of the launch or Autel scanner s? Will appreciate your feedback. Thank you
Ivan, I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thank you. I’m in the market for a scanner to reset oil maintenance light on McLaren. I’ve heard this is available now with Launch software. Could you confirm? 🤘🏼🔧
I've been using XTool for a couple years and also AUTEL . I mainly do keys, fobs, modules, and pcms. They are both great in their own right and each can perform functions the other cannot.
Which of the XTool models? Thanks.
I've owned the D7, D8, and currently using the IK 618E @@abdul-kabiralegbe5660
For the Chrysler, Autel has a bypass canle you can use to bypass the security gateway module for bout $75
Thank you so much
Sooo I would need that one for. My dodge challenger scatpak 392 6speed?? To clear the code properly??
Can anyone tell me where to go to fully learn how to use the scan tools to identiy electronic ussues in cars? I'm talking stricly about electronics, not mechanical issues. Is there a course you can take, or read a book or something? Thanks
You are asking the wrong question.
But you are on the right channel to learn the diagnostic approach 😊
You will not learn this stuff from any course. You must experiment yourself and take notes 😉
Autel Ultra Lite i have is the best option for me but i also recommend and Topdon Smart if you dont mind to pay >2000 , as budget i recommend xtool d8 about 500 or d9 about 1000. Hello Ivan from UK
I like my D8
0:46 Do have a link to a battery for that little basturd on the right? Mine expanded and cracked the screen, but I cant find a damm replacement for the battery? I'll give you a 10 dollah thanks for a successful link. thanks.
The think diag 2 does keys too!! For 150 bucks ill buy that one. It saves me 500 in keys fees and towing to dealer.
which scanner works on hybrid vehicles? ford fusion hybrid specifically? Thanks
Usually Amazon is full of knock offs so how do you tell what your buying?
Autel UK informed me that they dont sell on Amazon.
Which tool is more capable, the Kingbolen K10 or the Launch CRP 919 and which would you recommend?
What scan tool would you recommend for Mercedes?
Autel
Do i need to pay for more modules to make this scanner really come to life? Or the vehicles computers systems are less advanced?
This is a timely video. My Thinktool Pros's two years of free updates are coming to an end in four days and I'm thinking of buying a new scan tool instead of updating the Thinktool. The Kingbolen looks nice as does the Launch. Which one do you think has more capability? Does the Launch have the topology? I wonder what modules are compatible with both since I have some of the extra modules for the Pros such as the scope.
What does it cost to update, and does turn into a brick if you dont?
If you don't work on FCA new cars, The Kingbolen K10 works similar the Pros and pretty good price today.
@@kingbolen_official Will the Thinkcar scope work with the K10?
I saw an article saying that when you update, the interface changes to the same as kinbolen. Have you tried updating before your subscription ends?
@@leecoon1004 Yes, I updated the day before my subscription ended. The interface is the same as it always has been. I actually bought this scanner through Ediag on Amazon which is part of Kingbolen. I enquired about updating the scanner through them and they wanted me to send them the serial number to verify the scanner before I bought the update but I have not heard back from them since.
Ivan, What do you think of the launch x431 pro elite scanner? Has anyone else used it?
thanks for posting. i appreciate the information
Great info Ivan !
Nice bunch of tools! Decisions, decisions... 🙂
Great video Ivan as always. These are some smoking good deals on these scanners. I need to update mine so thank you for this information video.
Dang, just went to buy the new K10 and it's unavailable!
I got that launch Bluetooth scanner great scanner bought it of amazon
The Thinktool ProS doesn't support any special features on my 2001 F250, or my 2020 Mazda CX-5.
For me it's been a $800 paperweight.
Launch has no issue with FCA autoauth
@@Blazer02LS ok, thank you. So I hear you saying it's a One Time fee for the tool, not annual.
It's an annual fee but for the tool, not individual vehicle.@@douglas2lee929
OTOFIX D1 MAX Just ordered one yesterday...
Autel 808 sts, or IM 608
Launch CRP 919
¿???????
Yip, Being independent mechanic shop it cost alot of money as we have to work on every brand to make money, and it is subscription this and pay that and buy this tool kit and that tool kit. And being in South Africa economy, that 560 usd is just over 10K for us in our BS currency
What are your thoughts on the topdon phoenix max? I've been thinking about buying one 🤔
I own that tool and it's brilliant
What's the cheapest bi directional scanner there is. I like doing my own breaker but am required to use one for maintenance mode.
take a look at the xTool D7; around $300 for us weekend warriors. Good luck
Looks like launch is better option for getting new one since my autel need renewal for last 5 years and some euros to Chrysler is useless with out subscription
@@leecoon1004 The start screen is different. All the following screens and menu design are the same.
Wich one is good for GMC Youkon 2023 model?
i'm not fond of the autel mk808, mine kept setting communication codes.
What was the newer Autel scanner that you were going to get?
Thanks ivan just what 'i asked for the other week.
I just need a scanner to clear p1745 from a 2019 grand caravan any thoughts? Thinkdiag can't cut it.oh shit auto auth thank you sir!
What of those tools would you select for educational use? Has anyone HDMI output for large screens and projectors?
I haven’t used it, but the K10 does have some kind of screen mirroring feature or something another. There is a button for it on the tool anyway. I’ll try it out and try to remember to report back.
I misspoke. It isn’t screen mirroring. It is team viewer that it uses.
