    I bought the Topdon Phoenix 2 earlier this year and it works great for the do it yourselfer. I paid $1079, so $912 is a smoking deal for anyone who wants a bi directional scanner with a lot of features. 👍🏼

      What is the cost of the update so yearly subscription? Do you know what will stop working if you don’t buy the subscription? Or renew it?

    Ivan .. if the scan tool companies listen to you, please request this: the ability to re-arrange pids!! When selecting the pids you want to watch in live data (whether graph or list form,) wouldn't it be awesome if you could drag and drop and put the pids in the order you want to see them? fuel trims in order, o2 sensors in order, etc. I don't understand how scan tools have come so far, have added topology, yet lack this simple feature that I'd use every time lol.

    I bought the Autel 808S-TS two years ago when you made this same video and its worked perfect! I didnt need to buy an adaptor to read the ABS codes on my older Jeeps. One thing it wont do is turn off the annoying auto door locks, but I wont hold it against it. Ive even used it to reprogram my TPM sensors!

    20 years ago, such a scan tool was a few thousand dollars. In 2009, I bought my OTC Genisys for $2,000 and it has proven to be the biggest pile of crap ever. It never failed to let me down. I keep it in case I need to do OBD1 stuff.
    Now, for less than $1,000 in today's dollars, you have a really respectable scan tool.

    Thanks for the great advice. After watching your walk-through of the scanners, decided on the Autel MaxiCheck MX808S-TS Scanner. During a comparison with the Launch X431, I read one review that talked about very poor manufacturer response and assistance. Also in the comparison, the Autel's customer response was rated very high. One other factor was the high praise for connecting to the cloud at Autel and getting answers for problems.
    Your review was very insightful and had enough information to narrow down a hugh, confusing field of very expensive gadgets.

The other is the Xtool D9 Pro For just over $1000 with 3 years free updates, FCA + DOIP & CAN FD Topology map included. Simple interface and a fully functional with over 42 services. As a Tech with 57 years experience I can highly recommend either tool. Easy for DIY people to learn.

    Hi Ivan, could you address the subscription costs of the typical (and your specific) scan tools? From my experience with a Think product, the annual software and add-on subscriptions are more than the tool's original cost. With that kind of arithmetic, potential buyers should be aware of what annual update costs are for each of the tools shown. Thanks for everything you do, and best of luck to you and PHAD in the new year.

    • @henrybrandt1057
      @henrybrandt1057 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      What happens to functionality if you don’t renew the subscription?

    • @richardbicker640
      @richardbicker640 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@henrybrandt1057 Depends on the tool. With Think, I recall they had "maintenance" (active bi-directional) separated from the usual diagnostic functions. As well, there was some "special" or other that got you three (or more, I forget) makes for the price of one (which didn't do me any good as I only buy Lexus vehicles). It's been a few years and I don't use the tool anymore due to the exorbitant software upgrade and annual maintenance costs. For me, the tool is all but useless without subscription renewals (can't do TPMS rewrites for example). Hopefully, Ivan will get into this topic as he surely has vastly more experience than most of us in using these gizmos and dealing with their associated subscriptions renewal options.

I have read there are workarounds for this and was just wondering if you tried to correct yours with the workaround, or just abandoned the old thinktool pros for their newer version, which you use now? Not a diss at you Ivan, was just curious if the folks at thinktool made any effort to correct the menu issue you made folks aware of, instead of just abandoning it to sell their latest unit?
