I think that Steve is coming back out is because he will play some part in the final Sum41 shows. From what I'm seeing, he could 100% walk right on stage and play a set. Gotta love this guys energy and positive attitude.
It's funny how there are so many parallels between Steve-o from Jackass and Steve-o from Sum 41.... the raspy voice, the jackass antics video pranks, the name, the previous binge drinking, rockstar lifestyle, and they even look somewhat look like each other.
This was super awesome and so good to hear Steve speak he's always been such an interesting dude to me and one of the reasons why I fell in love with sum 41 back in the day, cheers!
I started off playing in punk bands when I was 14 in Sault ste. Marie ( home to Greg from CT \m/) it took me a long time to ever attempt to learn any kind of technique and theory. I had some sense of pride in being "self taught" and that was tied to the whole punk rock thing. After spending so much time playing drums and being known as a drummer, I was almost embarrassed about it. After putting in the time practicing to understand the music and develope that muscle memory. I can play things that I thought I'd never have the skill to play and in genres i didn't appreciate at the time but do now. It made me feel better knowing a drummer I seriously looked up to, had similar road blocks. Thanks for the interview guys!!
Good to see Stevo again! I remember when I was a member of the Goon Platoon back in the Chuck era, you could ask them questions, and I asked : Why 32 in Stevo-32? Stevo answered : My mom used to write Stevo on my underwear next to the size "32", hence his nickname Stevo-32 hahahaha Steve, if you read this, I'm amazed that you say you didn't nerd out too much on the drum, I remember my dad being super impressed by the drumming listening to Sum 41 songs together. I can't wait to see how you drum today! I miss you in the band, and hope you will make a surprise appearence in the last show of Sum 41 in Toronto, January 30 2025! Sum 41 has always been my top band of all time, got me through so much hard parts in my life, and I still get shivers listening to some songs. I got my gold VIP ticket and I would have paid more to meet and greet since I missed it back in Chuck days, always regretted it since then. Take care, love you!
Holy shit I totally forgot about the goon platoon on their website. I remember their orange/green Chuck-themed website with questions. I remember asking Steve questions about his drumming and he was always so responsive. God, I remember how happy I was to see he actually answered. It felt insane. Miss those times
Bad technique, weak core, having to relearn how to hold the damn sticks, not being able to enjoy the drums outside the context of a band. I feel like you guys are talking to me. This was brilliant! Cheers dudes.
This is great, I was always curious abut the former drummer from Sum 41, a pillar of the band that made who they are along with the rest original lineup.
Man, what a great podcast! Steveo and Sum41 are one of my first major musical influences. I think every drummer (of any level) needs to watch this video and absorb the knowledge being shared here, and explore these topics further! You guys are both top notch drummers and professionals!🤘
Loved this interview. Going through a lot of should problems and this was definitely insightful. I’ve been playing for a long time as well and there’s never something I can’t learn. Stevo was one of my inspirations and favorite drummers when I was growing up 🔥
jeeze this makes me so hopeful.. ive got the EXACT same story as Steve (minus the fame and success wah wah) but getting back into I now see all the stuff I never thought to work on. SO RUSTY AHHHHHH
Stevo is an international drumming super star and yet he acts like your buddy from high school who drinks light beer and works as a mechanic at the local shop. Seems like the most down to earth dude and great guy to hang out with.
He is. He was talking to me back then at a show in 2010 or something for like thirty minutes and it was already kinda late at the venue after the gig. Simon Head was there too haha
My favourite thing Steve has ever said is that is he has a daughter he wanted to name her Beatrice... so her name would be Bea Jocz 😈 Sending love from Brampton, Ontario 🥰
interesting they both said they are using index finger fulcrum, I really found moving to second finger fulcrum give the stick move round to move and you don't have to pinch grip it. Let you index finger point out to practice this. Try it with doubles, you will see the pinched index fulcrum is shortening the stick movement.

Great drummer and person. I missed him playing in Sum 41. He was a signature part of their sound.
Stevo, if you can read this : pls join the last Show with Sum41!!
I agree! The final show in TO must have Stevo32! 🤘😎

That'd be pretty awesome
Kinda funny that this Stevo kinda sounds like the other Steve-O lol
so true :D hahahhaa
😂 i always thought that too
They both swallow frogs for breakfast er' day! Lol
thought that too. That' what substance abuse will do to you.
Now that you mention it....
Steve's the man! Hopefully, he plays on the last sum show!

So cool to see Stevo doing good. His YT channel is also super cool!

It was great to get to know the original drummer of Sum 41 more personally. As a drummer, this information was awesome. Great podcast episode.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@brandondrummechanics Absolutely man. Thank you.
What a legend! Zummo is a killer drummer but Stevo was always SUM to me!

This is good! He mentions not being able to play slow to a click track. When I record slow songs I have to double the bpm for it to make sense.
Steve is amazing, I love watching him drumming. Turns out I enjoy listening to him talking, too! Great episode 👍🏻
The best sum 41 drummer !!
Да лучший в мире. Из за его неправильного играния ,он и стал самым лучшим. Запоминающиеся ,мощные партии.
Dude, this is awesome. I don't think most people realize what an accomplishment it is to get Steve in an interview these days

I'm just getting back into drums after 10+ years so all this info from Steve and you guys is super helpful! 🙌🏻

He was a major influence on my playing! Thanks for dropping by ❤️👊

i cant do it but i;ve seen thomas lang bounce his heal on the hihat for that count/doubletime, he not playing the hithats with that movement.
Really wish he was included in the final stretch of Sum 41 shows in 2025.
who knows what could happen🤷♂️
I bet he will be. And I feel this is part of the reason he is reemerging rn.
@@AlexSkylesAstrology I wish for this as much as I wish for them to release Canadian shows for once lolol
It would be cool if he at least played the final show in Toronto.
@@SpongeBath_ShitPants I can't imagine he doesn't pop up for *at min* one final rendition of Pain For Pleasure

I always wondered how to pronounce his last name. I thought it was Jocks for so long.
Steve was my favourite. Have to say Derek is a smart guy getting the bands foot in the door like that
Such an awesome podcast 🥁👍
