Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

On monitors on corn planters it will tell us our seed accuracy. If a seed meter picks up one seed at a time thats good. ie singulation. If they pick up 2 kernals then it plans a double which as it grows one of the plants wont develop well and effectively becomes a resource sucking weed. Skips are the meters missing a seed. There is alot that goes into making these things work right.

Being a Millennial doesn't automatically make someone able to know how a technology works. It merely makes you more likely to be able to use it. Using a technology and understanding it are two completely different things. Sure, you probably know how to use a Smart Phone and a computer, but could you build one from scratch? I strongly doubt it.

Kudos to the kids with their trap line. Back in the 60's, my dad paid me $0.50 per gopher. Most summers I made over $50, which was a bargain for my dad. We raised soybeans and alfalfa. The gophers would tunnel right down a soybean row, pulling the plants right down into the ground. Of course, come harvest time the mounds would plug up the combine or hay mower sickles if you didn't spot them in time. And then there were the badger holes, some big enough to bury a Volkswagon, I swear.

This an FYI for Ms. Mellenial farmer, just listenign to the latest podcast at work, (on lunch don't worry) and wanted to clarify not all of Canada gets milk in bags. Heere in Manitoba, we buy it it 4L jusgs, which would be about a gallon. I know for sure Ontario uses the milk bags, and maybe more Eastern provinces? I don't think much of the west does though. But can confirm Manitoba uses jugs.
This has been your Canada facts update brought to you by me.

High tech for sure. Back in the 70's we had a four row planter, had to fill each box by hand, and adjust everything from the planter. Then follow a mark in the dirt made by a row marker. High tech to drop the row marker, pull a rope! And to find out if you are about to run out of seed, get out and check it or if you were lucky, get someone napping on the seed bags to check it for you. The good ole days!!

Your son handles gophers. When I was about 10 living in Oklahoma late '60s, I had several farmers that would pay me to hunt jackrabbits with my .22 rifle using long hollowpoints. I got a nickel each and the barns were very profitable. Good memories.,

Amazing how technology has changed since I was involved in farming 14 years ago. Zach will Deere take your output on your comments from the tractor and plamter your using ? You should run a test plot of this setup and your other tractor and planter side by side and see the differences between the two. It was nice to see how you could take a row apart without having to use wrenches as that is a big plus. Also nice to see Mrs Millennial farmer helping you out by bringing you stuff from the shop so you didn't have to stop, nice job Becky. You should put Becky on window and mirrors detail lol. Love your videos Zach and the time you put into showing us the new technology as it makes me want to come back and help you as I dont live to far away from you. I want to come visit your operation this some time soon. I'm trying to get you more subscribers. Have you talked to Randy about that one spot where you were pushing dirt with the planter. Does your computer show where you have tile drain outlets ?
I love for all you do to promote different ways of Agriculture, keep your videos coming as I'm always looking forward for the next video.

Just found (and subscribed) to your site, like what I've seen so far. Look forward to digging through past videos, some entertainment while "sheltering in place" from the corona virus. Spent many hours on John Deere 70 in the 1960s working summer fallow in Western Nebraska, so farming has a place in my heart. Viewing your operation reminds me of Mike Bloomberg saying he could teach anyone to farm. Just dig a hole, drop in a seed, cover it up, and add water. Sure Mike, let's see you hop into the cab, fire up, and plant some corn.

Hi Zach, a wonderful video on both the planter and the tractor. You take it through all the paces doing what you need to do and critiquing as you go along. The technology on the planter is incredible and you show what it's doing and when it's not working well. The tractor is fantastic yet you let us know what are the few shortcomings that probably need changing. I love the screens, the smooth and quiet ride, and the fabulous lights -- all of which you highlight. John Deere has to be very pleased with an authentic, realistic, and honest evaluation of both pieces of beautiful green equipment. Thanks, Zach for what you do for both farmers and manufacturers. - Dean from Edina

I’ve planted a lot of Test Plots in my day, and that has to be the easiest one I’ve seen done! Kudos to the crew who helped you with that. These new planters make it really easy to clean out, too. Now, fingers crossed it all comes up. Looking forward to the fall results. Keep up the good work. Be safe!

That's what we had also with the transmission. It kinda jumps into low gear. We have hills and going up it wants to go into high gear. Our John Deere dealership heard other people had issues. I like it and so does my dad and we brought it and another one. I am 6'5" and it's enough room for me. Glad the radio has Bluetooth. Cause I play Pandora Radio all the time and love the speakers. The volume turns the music down when somebody is calling me. I like it has the fridge to keep food cold and Mountain Dew. My wife watched this with me while we was helping a friend plant corn since his tractors broke. She was like does he carry hand sanitizer or a big container of water to wash hands. We do on all tractors and combines. Cause we like the inside of the cabs to be dirt and grease free.
