It's so interesting to me how when listening to this song I can physically feel the sensation of my heart sinking. The overwhelming sense of loss is almost too much. It's not him I miss really. I just miss what I thought we were.

An amazingly talented singer/songwriter. Back in the 1990's I got to record Joe at Warner/Chappell Music Studio in Santa Monica, CA. for a few days. One of the best recording sessions ever.
The first time I heard this song I almost started crying. It's just so brutally authentic in every way.

We used to run cross country, we used to spend endless hours at the library deciding between two books, we used to buy CDs for the heck of it, we used to shoot hoops at the park. I wonder if he misses me. Sometimes, I hope he doesn't. I hope he's happy in his new found popularity. I still miss him though.

Every so many years I come back to listen to this song to go back in time and re-feel some memories of a girl I once loved. Brings me back every time.
I've only ever loved one girl its been 6 years. When she was done I knew I was never going to find anyone else. I don't look at other girls. I don't stalk her I haven't seen her in 5 years, but I think of her every day. It needs to end.

Joe Purdy has a way of hitting you where it counts, no matter whats going through your mind, and how his songs affect your situation.. This, is true, very true art..
Hearing this song brings me back to a place in time that my heart holds onto so tightly. A place were only that time exists and when I close my eyes during this song it plays like a movie in my mind. And even though so much time has passed and I am a different person now... for a few moments I am 22 again outside in the middle June staring up at the stars with him thinking that no other time in my life will I be this free and this in love.
It's true! That's creativity, that are narrated feelings translated into raw, unpolished, handcrafted musical works of art. How do I recognize this for myself? Simply because I'm not usually a fan of this kind of music, but I have to listen to this song all the time..... simply breathtaking...

As the song starts, so does this movie in my head. Old memories play together as clips to a film. For a moment I can actually feel the cool summer breeze on my face, standing under the moonlight, down by the river. I never really loved him, not in a romantic manner anyhow. Just caught in the moment of wanting to be loved.
That's how music should make you feel. Make you close your eyes and drift someplace new. It's an escape and a comfort

It's just not possible to listen this song without thinking about a particular girl. A girl who got away, or a girl that you are deathly, terrifyingly, dreadfully afraid might get away soon. If the latter, my advice is, just don't allow it to happen.
I'm in love with someone who I know won't ever be able to love me. He's that kind of person that doesn't love himself and therefore he doesn't think he deserves love from others but damn... I'd love so much to make him happy that it hurts.
I don't know for how long we'll be together this way but I'm sure I'll miss him a lot when he decides to step out. He probably won't miss me but look, I'll embrace all the suffering with proud because it's always better to be hurt than to hide your heart away from all the beautiful feelings I have when we're together.

So he left me and was in a relationship with that girl for two years 😕. Then he also left her because she wanted more commitment and he didn't. Hahahaha in the end I found out that he was just the type of guy who is not sure about what he wants and is not able to commit to anything real. I think it was good that we didn't end up together
