Age of Empires should be numero uno, as Midtown Madness, Motocross Madness, and a slew of others should be as well... Quake 3 anyone?

@@si4632 I actually play and stream both those games. I love the Deus Ex series, I own them all, but I still love the original and even still play it online with friends from time to time. Used to make mods and custom maps for it!

For me it was motocross madness, Diablo, starcraft, sim safari, roller coaster tycoon, starwars dark forces 2, and delta force.
One of the best eras of PC gaming, in terms of the APIs that time and the 3D acceleration saga. Next video should be 20 Games That Defined Windows 2000 and XP.
Remember when EAX came out? Thief used it. The sound tech for games has been downhill since. It was like THX, which also went bye bye.
For me there is no way to have a separate list, all legacy games of MS-DOS and Windows 95 can also be considered in this list because that is what makes Windows 98 the most relevant system for retro gamers.

it's May 30th 2024 and after reinstalling windows 10 to my laptop ,monster truck madness and nfs 3 are the first two games of my favorite 5 game. (starcraft 2 / warcraft 3 just for dota / metal fatigue ) and now you know the whole list.
Moto Racer, Monstertruck Madness 2 and Heart of Darkness, I swear to god. Those games were so cool when I was a kid and we got our first family computer, a Compaq Presario, model 5510 I believe, in 1998. Heart of Darkness and Moto Racer I have downloaded as ROMs, they are still pretty fun and look good even today. I remember sitting a lot in Microsoft Encarta 97 and playing Mind Maze too. That was a fascinating time.

This, holy shit! Microsoft published the game, AoE was shipped together with the operating system (in Sweden at least). Everybody had it.
+Flying Dude Wow, it just shows how much of a living standard and wage difference there was/is between certain countries. I am from Hungary, and growing up I never knew anyone or heard about anyone, who actually paid and had a legal copy of Windows. But I remember that my mom was a teacher and she earned 40000 Huf which is roughly 160 USD in a month, and Windows cost around 40 USD, so it was a week's pay for my mom. No wonder nobody bought any kind of legal softwares back then.
Of course it's a lot better now, now you can buy Windows for about 3 days worth of wage :).
Yeah, the economic differences in Europe definitely leveled out the past 20 years or so!
Guess legal or not - as long as it works, it's a good copy ;-) Personally I pirate software I cannot afford, but always pay for it as soon as I have enough money.
98' was Rise of Rome expansion pack since 97' released AoE 1. in 2000 came AoE 2.

what was the one like hover, but you played against each other? It had different mazes, one was circular and you would fall into the middle if you got too close, another one had a big square grid with different levels with long upper narrow bridges... can't remember

BLOOD should be number 1 Game on windows 98 it was a DOS based game though. Number 2 should be Motorcross Madness LMFAO no game has ever been that fun, still play it to this day on an older dedicated Windows 98 Desktop hooked up to a large LED TV. Blood was a friken scary game with the ghoul sounds lmfao!!!

I remember there was a game that it was a kid who has to recollect like three spheres I think the first one was red the other one was blue and the other one yellow when have them all a portal with a shape of a dark cloud appears and take you to the next level and the final battle is vs a man who freezes everything around I don't if you know what I mean

So I remember playing a game that had a beetle and it was like a maze because you would click on a square to turn it so you could find the beetles way “home” but I can’t think of the name and it’s driving me nuts!

I am trying to remember a shooting game for pc where you started in a factory fazility and when you went out the world was pretty huge and it had a counter for how many monsters you killed. and they looked like raptor chickens, some where electricity monsters as well if i remember correctly. I have had this game stuck on my brain for so long and i need to find it :D

I don't know if this was the year but there was a pre-installed (I believe) game where you were a red blob/ball/something that are all the green background and had to avoid eating bombs. You'd eat all the green stuff until you got to a door that would let you go to the next level. Was this an actual game or a fever dream?
Maybe you mean "Blob Factory"? (But that's a Windows 3.1 freeware game)

I'm looking for two games i played in my youth. One was a flight game, (DSL was slow) I remember the name delta but not much more and the last is a Pirate themed RTS with the main menu being a view of the ocean. Both ran on windows 98. When you viewed on one of the units, they were firing a cannon
the pirate one you are thinking of might be The Secret of Monkey Island???? perhaps. and Microsoft had "Microsoft Flight Simulator 98" if that helps...

Hey guys, I've been looking for a game since I was a kid, and can't remeber its name:
It was a Shoot 'em up, where you play as a space ship. The screen orientation was horizontal, not vertical, and the first scenario was a red city (I think). Also, the first Final Boss was a zeppelin with a shark mouth and eyes painted on the front.
If anybody can guess its name, I would appreciate it SO much.

Most of my 98 collection run on ME but what about 2000? I know its basically kernal NT 5 some games dont run on NT?
most still run even on windows xp so 2000 should be fine with a few exceptions.

Yeah, there's quite some overlap between gaming in Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows XP...
I look for DEMON SLAYER from that period...yet net seems to forget it alltogether.
As for Win 98 There ware much much more important games than those.
