Just a little tip that has saved me from the same frustrating situation with paint dried on a foam stamp. Alcohol will break down acrylic paint. I have actually been successful removing some spots on my clothes this way. I usually put in in an old spray bottle and spritz it on the stamp and let it sit till the paint starts to get soft and wipe it. Sometimes it takes a few times but eventually I can remove enough for it to work again. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I just make sure that the paint does not dry on the surface :-) I find that to be the easiest way, prevention. But yes, you can also use hand sanitizer as its primary ingredient is rubbing alcohol.

Hi Elizabeth, I've been binge watching you for a while now but haven't commented. I love your work and very much appreciate your videos. This was such a fun technique!
To be more environmentally safe, you can let your rinse water sit overnight and let the residue sink to the bottom of the container. Pour off the water out onto the ground and let the solids dry out. Throw out the clump and reuse the container.
When I was trained by Golden Paints they suggested using a 5 gallon bucket with one bag of sandbox sand. Poor the paint water into the bucket and sit it in the sun, somewhere it can dry. The paint solids will be trapped in the sand, and the water will evaporate. This way absolutely no paint goes into the ground. :-)
Wow! Love how the metallics contrast with the magenta. Re: cleaning off your craft mat---instead of scraping it all off, put clear packing tape on it to pull it off and then you now can use that as another collage element.
You are the best gelli teacher I have seen on TH-cam. I like other instructors but your methods are the ones that inspire me. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise.
Hi Elizabeth Just started watching a few of your videos and I am hooked. Love your color palettes and textures, You are as vibrant as your papers. Can't wait to start exploring and experimenting. Thanks so much for demonstrating the techniques for these gorgeous creations.

E you have done it again!!!!! I'm glad I bought your foam stamps and I appreciate that you often use things we may have already purchased! They don't languish in a drawer. Now for the metallic paints. What's not to like about "dragon's blood" and anything with the word "mermaid" in the name.
I think the color is Fenix feathers, but you should’ve been in charge of naming it because Dragon’s blood sounds a lot more exciting :-) you’re awesome, thank you. I hope you are settled enough to break out the art supplies! Those pants are on 25% off, I forgot to mention that in the video :-)
I didn't think the metallics were going to be dark enough to show up against the bright colors on the back side, so that was a nice surprise when you turned the papers back to the front side! I was glad to see you were wearing short sleeves today because I'm always afraid you are going to get paint on your lovely clothes.😊😊
So it's about contrast, you don't want the stamps to be dark when the paper is dark, you want high contrast. Also the metallic paint does not allow the paint to soak through, it resists the magenta because it is opaque! the rice paper is the key. Oh I need to wear an apron, don't I????
Wow! Big reveal after the backside was painted! Very bright and great contrast with the metallic stamp patterns on the front. Your favorite rice paper is the magic ingredient, love those foam stamps too. Thanks for the tips on keeping the stamps from being ruined. I'll hope to see just where you use this festive paper. Great tutorial, as usual.
My pleasure! I tear the paper up and use it for collage paintings. check out my website: PaperPaintings.com! YES the rice paper is the KEY ingredient I would say and YES be sure to take care of your foam stamps!
Tanks Sarina! I use my papers torn up for hand painted paper collages but you could also use it for scrapbooking, mobile making, paper crafts, table setting cards, note cards, etc!
I have loved watching your videos, and I am looking forward to taking a class with you in the near future. I cannot wait to try this process and check out these paints. I wanted to suggest that when you use paper towels to clean up, if you are using a sturdy roll like Costco or Viva, I wipe my paint messes or extra paint with the paper towel, and then when I am done with a color, or for the session, I water down the acrylic paints on the pallet, and soak the paper towels in it, similar to how you brush on the water downed paint, and I use the dried paper towels as collage papers, which adds a nice texture to the work! paint stays out of the drain and landfill. win-win.
Beautiful, I love the way your mind works and how you emphasize having fun. I love watching your videos and plan on treating myself to an in person class ASAP.. Thank you
I am so glad you are having FUN that's the whole point of all this, isn't it??? would be lovely to have you in a workshop, we have even MORE FUN in person. thanks Diannah
In my experience, soaking acrylic for a while, days even, will help the acrylic to come off. Of course it depends on the substrate, but personally I would try it.
I'm glad you mentioned the environmental paint issue. I'm on a septic system and I learned while at an art retreat in Phenix to was out brushes and sponges in a tub then pour the water on the ground. By the time it gets to the water table it is very well filtered.
I disagree. EVERYTHING you pour in the ground makes it to the ground water. Try evaporating the water by catching it in a bucket and setting it in the sun. Much better.
Wow, you are such a fun and creative artist and person. Thank you so very much for sharing. You inspire me every time I watch a video created by you. Loved this one

Can't wait to get into the studio and make a fun filled mess! This technique makes such gorgeous papers and I really appreciate you demonstrating it. I have learned so much from you that I'd like to return the favor. Place your ruined foam stamp face down in some full strength Murphy's Oil soap overnight then rub it onto wet paper towels to remove the painty goo. Once most of the paint is off, rinse thoroughly. I have even used this method to remove dried gesso and gloss medium from paintbrushes. It's like magic.
Also, Master’s Touch brush cleaner is great for removing old paint. I had a paint brush that had oil paint dried in it for over 40 years and it took it out! Don’t ask me why I kept it for so long but I couldn’t bear to part with an expensive brush. Now I clean my brushes immediately with that stuff and it conditions them too.
Elizabeth! Hullo, darling. How wonderful this was to watch! I was feeling low in spirit today. I got left over dried acrylic paint off some of your stamps that I purchased by soaking them in warm water with Murphy’s Oil Soap. The paint can off easily with just a little gentle rubbing with my finger nail.
Hi!, I just spent the last two days making paper on my gel plate. Over 75, a few are not good colors🤢but I can change those. After watching this I now have to order more rice paper! I love this technique. I also just watched the one with bees and flowers on the aqua board. I love how you made the flowers. It opened up a whole new way for me to paint flowers 💡I tend to be very exacting detail oriented when drawing or painting and it will be good for me to get try and get used to loosening up. Thanks!
Loosening up is NOT EASY and so I feel you.... yeah it takes practice. I love that Aquabord for the watery effects and have not used it in a while... I'll have to circle back to it. I am so glad you are making so many gel prints! isn't that the most fun ever?
@@ElizabethStHilaire Yes, I love to see what finally appears. I have 24 shades of mica powder from a project years ago. So I mix it with acrylic glazing liquid and make all different shades of “interference” type paint. It really works!
Gail, thanks so much, I think freezer paper might work but it might not, that darn acrylic is basically plastic and so it sticks to most anything but other plastic it seems. Give it a try!
One way is to let paints on the cloths dry, and then reuse until it’s ‘painted’ all over and dried again and again like layers. You can then wash or dampen to reuse since the dry acrylics will not come off. Saves papers and not polluting the water system. Just sharing useful tips I learned from other artists.
I wondered, as I watched the end of the video, if you had ever put sheets of rice paper under the sheets that are drying. I think you would get some very interestingly patterned papers by doing that. I'm going to get some rice paper so I can try this technique and try the idea of the sheets underneath.
what I think would happen is that since the rice paper is so absorbent, the sheet underneath would pull some of the color out of the painted sheet. I want the painted sheet to be as vibrant as possible so I let it sit in the paint and dry. thanks for watching!
Hello Elizabeth! Love your artwork. Just wanted to tell you that if you soak your ruined stamp in Murphys Oil for a day or two…it might be salvaged! I forgot many with acrylic paint and I resuscitated them with this magic cleaner! All the best! Cristina.
I could give it a try but in my experience nothing reactivates dried acrylic paint because of its' polymer base, and you cannot scrub the foam as it is fragile... you can scrub rubber stamps like the dickens but not these. I will give it a try though Christina, why not?
Thanks, as usual, for the instructions and ideas. You mentioned the harmful effects of tree paper towels and you are correct, they are destructive.. I use the more sustainable bamboo paper towels. which I order in bulk through a company called REEL. Your consciousness about the environment is much appreciated.
you cannot sand acrylic as it is polymer based... plastic, it is flexible and does not sand. Plus the foam would be damaged by the sanding. It's just a good example of what happens when you don't take care of them.... but it's not hard to wipe them when they are wet! thanks Liz
Hi Elizabeth, thank you for the excellent videos. I was on your Amazon page and I am overwhelmed with the choices of rice paper. I also don't know how you use glassine paper. can you tell me which is your favorite roll of rice paper? I have a large gel plate, so I want the width to fit that. Also, can you explain the use for glassine? Thank you!
Hi Fran I don’t use glassine. :) just rice paper. Sometimes Deli paper for translucency. My favorite rice paper is the 9 x 12 pad on my Amazon page but you can also get it from joggles.com. The 8“ x 20‘ roll is the same paper but probably not going to fill your gel plate. So I would suggest a 9 x 12 pad: shrsl.com/3c7o8 but the roll has its place!
So question… first of all the rice paper is gorgeous but I’d heard from a collage course I took that a lot of joggles materials are patented prints and weren’t allowed to use them in work we want to sell. Are these ephemera rice pages and stamps like that? If I buy them can I use them or pieces of them as they are or do I have to significantly change them to be “unrecognizable” as the original? Thanks!
I use "Honest" brand baby wipes and found that I can rinse them in water and all of the paint(acrylic), chalk, ink, Posca, Caran d' ache and glue comes right out. I was really surprised that this was so because I went through a lot of them when I considered them dirty. As long as the substances are wet they come out. I often use only three or four wipes in a day.
You are such a joyful soul!
I try to be DooDah... I really do
You’re hands aren’t dirty! They’re beautifully colored ❤️

@@Jennsue57 oh wow that's so cool Jennifer!
Thanks for your art inspiration! I have the table cover but I'm also going to try freezer paper.
Gail, thanks so much, I think freezer paper might work but it might not, that darn acrylic is basically plastic and so it sticks to most anything but other plastic it seems. Give it a try!
WOW!
Right???
Fun! 😁
Thanks!!
I love Sedona
Me too. So much.
One way is to let paints on the cloths dry, and then reuse until it’s ‘painted’ all over and dried again and again like layers. You can then wash or dampen to reuse since the dry acrylics will not come off. Saves papers and not polluting the water system. Just sharing useful tips I learned from other artists.
exactly, that is what I do. I keep reusing the same cloths but I am also guilty of using paper towel. thanks for sharing!!!
Love
@@iramnadeem8172 thanks!😊
I wondered, as I watched the end of the video, if you had ever put sheets of rice paper under the sheets that are drying. I think you would get some very interestingly patterned papers by doing that. I'm going to get some rice paper so I can try this technique and try the idea of the sheets underneath.
what I think would happen is that since the rice paper is so absorbent, the sheet underneath would pull some of the color out of the painted sheet. I want the painted sheet to be as vibrant as possible so I let it sit in the paint and dry. thanks for watching!
Beautiful papers Elizabeth. This is a great technique. Thanks for sharing (-: Marion
My pleasure! It sure is isn’t it?
Awesome
Thanks
Fan fab fab 😍😍😍
Thanks!!
Love your inspiring techniques...will this technique work with any rice paper?
It will but you need a sturdy sheet and much rice paper is thin. So much water will cause thinner sheets to tear.
@@ElizabethStHilaire try and see for yourself, no scrubbing needed! Hope you can salvage it!
@@cristinadelsol8349 I will give it a try, thanks for the tip!
I wonder if you could/would print off the paint on the table when you lift up the rice paper?
Why not!
Thanks, as usual, for the instructions and ideas. You mentioned the harmful effects of tree paper towels and you are correct, they are destructive.. I use the more sustainable bamboo paper towels. which I order in bulk through a company called REEL. Your consciousness about the environment is much appreciated.
Thank you very much for the information! I’ll look into that :-) we all need to do what we can
Would a sand block remove the top layer of paint from the rose stamp? That method works on rubber stamps… just a thought. These papers are stunning!
you cannot sand acrylic as it is polymer based... plastic, it is flexible and does not sand.
Here’s the link for the roll that’s the same paper as the pad; shrsl.com/3d6ol
So question… first of all the rice paper is gorgeous but I’d heard from a collage course I took that a lot of joggles materials are patented prints and weren’t allowed to use them in work we want to sell. Are these ephemera rice pages and stamps like that? If I buy them can I use them or pieces of them as they are or do I have to significantly change them to be “unrecognizable” as the original?
Thanks!
@@cgm_2142 you can sell an original. You cannot make prints to sell multiples. That’s all. A one-off is ok. No mass production for profit.
Thank you for that information Ann, that is super helpful and I will look for them! Awesome.
